I decided to try a bunch of different classes with some of my friends. :) I am going to be very busy for a while. I signed up for yoga, line dancing, crochet, horseback riding, and water color painting among others. So fun!

That is such a sweet thing to say. We've had it for about a week, and we're positive that by this weekend, we should be up and running. And many rich blessings to you and yours:)
Kristie, at least you got to see most of them, and everyone else is okay. It was 70 degrees and sunny here on Christmas. Now we're getting snow soon.
Wow, I hope you have a bunch of fun with your new activities. I'm an avid crocheter. I hope you have fun with that.
Yes, it was 70* and sunny where I live too, Groovy. When I got home my friends said people were complaining about it being too hot. lol I guess some people will complain no matter what. I was very happy to see most of my family and get to see my grand open gifts Christmas morning. It was a really nice day. I'm looking forward to seeing both of my daughters next time I visit which will likely be in April or June. I am able to crochet a scarf or squares and that is it. I am really looking forward to learning more. My mom makes beautiful afghans. She has made them for many people now and we all love them. I'm excited to see what they will teach us to make. The friend that is taking the class with me does not know how to crochet at all, but she is a knitter. It will be interesting to see if that helps or hinders her at all.
Oh, I am learning to crochet too! I’ve only got as far as doing a magic circle, which I am trying to figure out. But I love practicing on my stitches, it’s a relaxing activity. 😊
Very good, Ashlynne! I'm hoping they'll teach us some different stitches and how to read a pattern by the end. I have a book that is supposed to be some simple items to make, but I don't understand it yet. I think the trick will be to practice a lot so I don't forget it all.
Good for you, Ashlynne. That magic circle and I are not friends. Sometimes I have to start over at least 3 times before I calm down and can then get it to work. And you're right, it's very relaxing. In some hospitals, they introduce crocheting to those in mental distress because it's so relaxing.Kristie, I wish I could see your mother's Afghans, I bet they're beautiful. I taught myself from the books. Just be patient, you'll get it.
I make baby blankets called SweetWraps. I give them away as gifts, and sell them online. Thanks to my daughter, her co-workers buy one each time a friend gets pregnant--LOL.
Let me know how the both of you are progressing. I'm eager to see what you make.
Here are some of my blankets on my website:

Your baby blankets are beautiful, Groovy. I'll post a pic of one of my mom's afghans soon and I'll be sure to let you know what they teach us. :)
My Mom used to crochet really well. I'm not sure how to post pics here in chat to share though. I have crocheted scarves and some simple blankets like a continuing granny square. I have trouble understanding some of the written out directions as well though. Someone told me once to try watching some YouTube videos if I'm not sure how to do a certain stitch.
Funny, I just posted this for someone else in one of my other groups earlier today. :) You can try this if you want to post pictures here, Jojo. I use https://imgur.com. I save a copy of the photo or a screenshot to my desktop, then upload it to Imgur. I get the html code from them.
One thing to be aware of, with Goodreads new regulations on outside links you will have to change the code a bit. there is an href code in front of the img code (just meaning basically that the code starts with those letters) both codes are inside triangle brackets <>. You need to remove the href code so that your image link begins with a triangle bracket and img. Just delete everything before that.

Oh Thank you for this! I will save the directions for later use. I'll take some pics of the afghans that my Mom made and post them later this afternoon. I wonder why goodreads doesn't just simply add a feature so you could post a photos. Even if the option is given to the moderators to review photos before they are posted publicly I would think that would be a great option to have.
Yeah, I find the adding of images to be a bit confusing too. Just above the text box, there is a link that says "(some html is ok)" and the image code is there, but there is no explanation for how to actually use it.
Thank-you, Kristie. I appreciate that. Can't wait to see how you progress. And I agree, the YouTube videos are very helpful. I highly recommend learning from them also.
Have a safe weekend, Everyone!
There are crochet books that teach how to read patterns. YouTube is great, you can search specific stitches. Crochet is great therapy in the same way that puzzles are- it challenges the mind to solve and remember, uses hand eye coordination, and muscles dexterity. It is creative expression. Enjoy your projects, lessons and success.
Hi,Im new. Wondering if anyone can help me. Is this an active book club? Is there usually a meeting at the end of the month to talk about the book we read?
Thank you for any help! :)
Welcome, Brenna! We are an online book club, so we don't get together, but discuss online. This month we are reading A History of Wild Places and Piranesi. You can join the discussions using the links below. We discuss all month long, but used spoiler tags whenever discussing anything that might give away some of the plot so that nothing gets spoiled for anyone accidentally.

I went through a stage where I knitted several blankets for friends. Crochet would be faster but I find the tension tricky.
Now I am into cowls, though I have just started a shawl in silk.
Since it got cold all I want to do is snuggle with my knitting under a blanket and binge Netflix so even though I am a slow knitter I am making reasonable progress.
I'd like to get to that point too, Esther, but right now even a basic stitch takes my attention. I don't think I could watch something and crochet yet.
Thank-you, Esther. I appreciate you saying that. I looked at knitting, but it seemed so daunting. I was more drawn to the one needle process. I bet all of your designs are nice to look at. And your friends, no doubt, love their blankets. Sitting under a warm blanket and knitting while binging on Netflix is a great idea. Enjoy yourself and go as slow as you want:)I'm in the process of making something similar to a cowl. But it's to sit under my TV so that whatever part of the room I'm in, (I have a front room that opens to the dining room), I can turn the TV that way and it won't scratch my table.

Christine wrote: "I hope everyone had a great new year"Christine, my new year didn't start out well at all. We're already in the second week (really?) and so far it's 2022 one, Groovy zero--LOL! I hope 2022 is good to you so far.

Haha... I feel you, Groovy. I'm not sure I want to keep score... 2020 and 2021 both kicked my butt. I feel like it's my turn for a win. lol
Oh that stinks Groovy and lol your funny Groovy and thanks and I hope you had a great holiday and I hope you had a great New Year Ashlynne
We survived 2020 and 2021 reasonably well, especially compared to others but 2022 isn't treating us too well so far.
Kristie wrote: "I'd like to get to that point too, Esther, but right now even a basic stitch takes my attention. I don't think I could watch something and crochet yet."It will take awhile and for complicated stiches you will always have to pay attention.
I'm so sorry to hear that, Esther. I guess saying Happy New Year seems kind of redundant for the entire world. Hang in there. As for the complicated stitches, that's why I stopped at the intermediate level of crocheting. Advanced seems like a whole 'nother world.
Hello everyone. I am new to the group and have read through some of the posts. How exciting to see some crocheters and knitters here.I have been crocheting about 43 years of my 50 LOL. My grandmother taught me when I was 7. Yarn and craft stuff is my other addiction besides books. Nothing better than crocheting while listening to an audiobook.
I tried knitting a couple of times but just can't get the hang of two needles. I much prefer just one hook LOL.
I crochet anything and everything....hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks, sweaters, doll clothes, blankets, wraps, cowls, neckwarmers, oven mitts, pot holders, place mats, coasters, bookmarkers...just EVERYTHING. Sometimes I use patterns, sometimes I use patterns and make my own adjustments, sometimes I just pick up yarn and start crocheting LOL
Just don't give up, keep practicing, relax and enjoy!!!
Happy reading and stitching.
Hi, Robin. Welcome. I tried teaching my daughter, but her fingers would rather strum the electric guitar--LOL.
Hi all, how are you guys doing ?? I am addicted to reading books quite recently. Started with genres like mythology, non-fiction, fantasy, and thrillers. Joined the good reads app recently and am not very sure of how these communities or groups work. I would love to partake in any reading challenges that will help in getting hooked up to this new habit.
The big yearly challenge is just beginning, Shreya. You can sign up if you'd like to be put on a waitlist. We also have smaller challenges that run every other month. Our next one is about to start in February. You can find it here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Get well, Christine. I'm sorry you're sick. I wondered why you weren't posting your daily holiday posts.
Thanks. You too, Groovy. I'm working this weekend about 2½ hours from my house. It's a long ride, but excellent audiobook time. :)
This cold weather has me snuggled and reading more books. Does anyone else seem to be reading more with the cold weather?
Hello Lilly and oh ok Lilly and oh that’s cool Lilly and oh that’s cool Lilly and thanks Groovy and thanks Groovy and I agree with you Tammy and I’m reading a lot of my books with the cold weather Tammy
