Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Australian author, Tania Blanchard sets her third novel, Letters from Berlin, in Berlin in the last years of WW2 and the early post-war period, mining the experiences of her own grandmother's family to give the reader an enthralling read.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments With her Southern voice, Suzy Jackson is the perfect narrator for Charlaine Harris's first novel, Sweet and Deadly.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments If you like a bit of sci-fi sitcom that includes aliens and a cat, then go for Delas Heras's debut novel, The Intergalactic Interloper. Very entertaining!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Alyssa Hanrahan does a great job in bringing to life (excuse the pun) what is possibly my favourite Charlaine Harris series, the Harper Connelly series. Grave Sight merits 5★s in the audio version.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I recently read The Burgess Boys by one of my favourite authors, Elizabeth Strout. When your sister needs you, back in the hometown you so happily escaped, what's a man to do?

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I also just enjoyed another delightful escapade with The Honourable Phryne Fisher, the luscious sleuth created by Australian favourite, Kerry Greenwood. 1920s Melbourne is where Miss Fisher investigates a Murder on the Ballarat Train.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I can see from the ratings that not everyone loves Jodi Picoult's latest novel, The Book of Two Ways. There is a LOT of Egyptology, and several other fascinating topics get an airing, but the protagonist won't endear herself to all readers. Definitely interesting and thought-provoking.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Perhaps it's the tone of voice Alyssa Bresnahan sometimes uses in her narration of the second Harper Connelly book by Charlaine Harris, Grave Surprise, but I don't remember laughing out loud quite so much while reading the print version.

Carolyn | 9840 comments Not really 'historical' but set towards the end of apartheid in South Africa and the freeing of Nelson Mandela, so of historic interest.

I've been enjoying listening to the audiobook of Born a Crime Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood. He's an excellent narrator and has some very funny stories to tell of his childhood growing up in South Africa as the child of a single black woman and a white man.
