And last night I read about Peter May and the book titled Lockdown which he wrote 15 years ago and set it in London with a pandemic. It was rejected by the publishers then as being too unrealistic. In the last few weeks, someone suggested to May he write a book about the pandemic and he said "hang on - I did". Dug it out, his publisher was astounded at how eerily accurate it is, and now it's just been published! Uncanny!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Well, Amethyst Pledge, the first book in Leonie Rogers new Albatar Chronicles series, is an excellent start to what promises to be an intriguing series and I do hope that we don't have to wait too long for #2.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hague Publishing. Out 17th April

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Another moving and thought-provoking read from Kelly Rimmer, Truths I Never Told You illustrates how far we've come in 40 years on some issues, while we've made barely any progress on others.

Probably safe to read now that it doesn't look as if the virus will spiral out of control the way it did in the novel!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I'm a bit late-to-the-party with books by American author, Catherine Ryan Hyde. Just After Midnight is my second, this one an audio book grabbed the day before Wollongong City Libraries closed. If the narration was sometimes a tiny bit stiff, this is still a brilliant read.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments From the cover and the English blurb, Miss Iceland by Icelandic author Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir seems like it might be a bit chick-lit-ish, but it is actually quite a bit deeper and darker. Beautifully written and very moving.

Alex Duffell | 3 comments My first book read post partum!

Review of Dawn French’s ‘A Little Bit Marvellous’

Written in a diary style, French has a way of creating very believable and humorous characters. Very easy to read and followed the story of the lives of a ‘normal’ family. The younger male character’s voice can get tedious, but does add to the variety in the story. Would recommend for someone wanting to turn off and have the occasional laugh, while reading quick chapters before bed.
