I enjoyed this one, too, and it's sequel. It's kind of nice to take a break from the serious and darkness of the traditional murder investigation stories.
Darkness for Light. Third book in the Caleb Zelic series by Emma Viskic, and the best one so far. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished The Blackhouse by Peter May. Loner cop with troubled past + atmospheric setting. That formula is popular these days but this one still remains fun. Rating - 3/5

You are a strict reviewer. If I recommend a book I give it 4 *
Finished First Blood by Marsons. Reading In the Midst of Death. I think this is the title. #4 Matthew Scudder book by Lawrence Block

I know. To me 3 or 3.5 stars is a book that's perfectly worth reading; 4 or 5 stars (for me) indicates something more special or extraordinary.
Barbara wrote: "I know. A lot of users here think 3 is outright bad (for me it means middling) which leads to a gross over rating of books on the site.
Vertigo 42
by Martha GrimesIn this 23rd book in the 'Richard Jury' series, a classic movie and two well-known novels provide clues when the Detective Superintendent investigates a number of deaths.
Okay mystery, but it's always fun to visit with the recurring characters. 3 stars

I agree, a 3 is a good read, nothing wrong with that!
World of Trouble
by Ben H. WintersThe Last Policeman #3, series absolutely should be read in order. I started out hating Hank because he made what I thought was a very stupid decision to leave a woman who cared for him, but I was wrong. He has to be what he is. This is a unique and rewarding series, highly recommended. 5 stars.
Little Girls Sleeping, from Jennifer Chase. First book in her Det. Katie Scott series. A solid police procedural. Especially at such a low price.

Recently finished “Brighton Belle” by new to me author Sara Sheridan. 1st in a promising series set in 1950s UK. Really enjoyed the book & looking for more in the series. Has anyone else read any of Sheridan’s mysteries?
About to begin
The Family Next Door by Fiona Cummins after finishing the very emotional, harrowing but incredible
The Nowhere Girl by Nicole Trope. My spoiler free review can be found at my webpage https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/... andhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven. Worst Golden Dagger winner I have read. This is so incredibly awful and stupid, I can't fathom how it won so much accolade. I repeat Award winning crime fiction is seldom this bad. Rating - 2/5

This is a romantic suspense story that's pretty unbelievable. 2 stars

Picked up a book called "The Hunting Party" - I was looked for a good "trapped in a remote location" thriller. Began to read and saw that it was one of my pet peeves in writing, books where the whole story is written in the present tense.
^i found the hunting party really good and I don’t mind whether they write in first person or 3rd or 4th or however but I do tend to find it’s harder to find a truely good first person narrative.. there are some but not many
I am about to start listening to the novella
Treacherous by Barbara Taylor Bradford after finishing listening to
I Am Missing Tim Weaver. My spoiler free review can be found at https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Fix
by David BaldacciAmos Decker, a former police detective who now works for the FBI, uses his photographic memory to help solve crimes. Decker certainly needs it in this book, which has some bizarre killings.
Good mystery. 3 stars

Ruddy McCann #1. Repo agent (want to get back on your feet? miss a couple of car payments) in a small Michigan town gets pulled into investigating a murder because somehow the dead guy ends up in his head. Very light and enjoyable mystery with lots of humor. Totally original and I liked it a lot. 4 stars.
