PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments A Chorus of Innocents (Sir Robert Carey #7) by P.F. Chisholm was another entertaining instalment in this historical fiction mystery series set in 1592 on the English/Scottish borderlands. Ah, the intrigue! Such a great way to soak up a bit of history. But mind the bloodshed!

That is sad, Renee. Do you ever get to choose the book for your group? I mix it up in my book group so that the books don't get stale.

message 2707: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 182 comments We nominate books and vote. The group has picked Fern Michaels, Barbra Delinsky and Debbie Macomber the three months before this They are female friendship/relationship novels. It is what the others enjoy. I used to enjoy them but I don't anymore. I love my girls. But not their books

Scott Stevens Sounds like a great story for sure! A little bit like my "Deadly Roses" in the terms of trouble at home.

Patty | 4449 comments I’m currently reading Sisters by Daisy Johnson. It’s a little book about—guess what—sisters! They are in their early teens and under a year in age apart. One is dominant over the other and the warrior in social situations (usually ones where she speaks up and defends her bullied sister). Something bad happens at school that propels their mom—who writes children’s books with them as characters—to move to another area.

Ben Abbott #3, OK to read as a stand-alone. Wow, what a dynamite mystery (that's a joke, dynamite plays a big part in the plot). Great characters and the plot just carries you along at top speed as Ben gets put in the middle of a feud between an old New England farmer and his rich neighbor. 5 stars, highly recommended.

I understand. A group of my friends started a book group, their choices and the fact that they enjoyed the books so much led me to question the basis of our friendship so now I steer clear of bookclub.

In this 4th book in the 'Kat Holloway' series, the cook/amateur sleuth searches for several missing children. The book works fine as a standalone.
