RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Nancy wrote: "My husband loves Hiassen. He just read his latest and I'd hear him chuckling now and then while doing so."

I'm enjoying Tourist Season ok so far. It was his first (solo) novel and reads like it. It's on the Guardian 1000 list which I think is kind of a stretch. The main character is an ex-journalist and I'm guessing Hiassen based a lot of the characters on people he knew at the Herald.

Thomas (tom471) | 2003 comments I read The Wicked Hour by Alice Blanchard I rated it 3 stars, due to some flaws. However, if you live outside NYS, and are not a covered bridger, you might like it.

Today I will be finishing Selva Almada's Dead Girls, which like Fernanda Melchior's Hurricane Season, focuses on the topic of femicide. Melchior's book was set in Mexico; Almada's in provincial Argentina. I'm really tempted to pull out 2666 and read it again after these two.

This first book in the 'Rosato and DiNunzio' series is a spin-off of the author's popular 'Rosato and Associates' books. Mary Dinunzio helps a teen who thinks an innocent man is in prison.

Good characters. 3 stars

Now you sound like my husband. I dread the day he does retire, since he will be happy for a week or two and then bored out of his skull. He comes up with a new plan like every month of what he'd like to do once he does retire while I just inwardly roll my eyes.

Araych | 676 comments Masked Prey Masked Prey (Lucas Davenport #30) by John Sandford by John Sandford

Lucas Davenport #30, OK to read as a stand-alone. Davenport gets called in to investigate a right-wing website which appears to target children of important gov't officials. Another dynamite thriller mystery from Sandford. Is he now using a ghost? Don't know, don't care. I've seen a good many neg. reviews of this book, most seem to object to the neo-Nazis as the bad guys. Well, I agree that's an easy pick for a villain, but the book itself is a real winner. 4 stars.

I have been retired 18 years and we are now empty nesters--our son finally moved out 6 years ago. I read about 70-80 books a year and write a review for each one. My wife also reads, but doesn't write reviews, although I sometimes add her comments in my reviews. I just finished 70th book & review. I did volunteer as a mediator for local courts/BBB/Child&Family Svcs for 10 years.

I know lots of people who are perfectly happy in retirement, but I also know my workaholic spouse. He gets bored on weekends, so retirement's going to do him in. I wish he'd read more; that might help.

I've started reading The Onion Field, but I'm in a crap mood today so we'll see how it goes.

I was not a workalholic, but my agency had required OT- I worked 50-60 hours a week most of my 33 years. There were frequent 16 hour shifts . I love retirement. I don't have to go to work in blizzards( essential worker).
