A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Continuing to read
[book:Rebecca|1789994..."A Gentleman in Moscow is good. Rebecca too. 😊
still reading White Jazz by James Ellroy. I'm hoping to finish by tomorrow. This one's a bit more challenging than the others because it's done only from a first-person pov, and because he's gone pretty dynamite staccato on the language in this novel.
I just finished listening to The Quartet Murders

I finished the terrific and fun Detroit crime novel:
Swag by Elmore Leonard
Rating: 4 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading:
Prizzi's Honor by Richard Condon
My 4 star review of a short story in the Kate Burkholder series, In Plain Sighthttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Ice Harvest
by Scott PhillipsDynamite fast-paced mystery with scenes of hilarious dark humor. I saw the movie before I read the book and I think this is one of the few instances where the movie is better than the book. 4 stars if you haven't seen the movie, 3 if you have.
I always enjoy Louise Penny's excellent Chief Inspector Gamache series and just finished Glass Houses, where many consciences are troubled.

I've finished White Jazz which means I've also finished the LA Quartet. Honestly, these four books taken together are some of the very best examples of crime literature I've ever read. Jeez.
Anyone thinking of reading these would be wise to at least start with The Big Nowhere and read your way through the other two in order. I think you could feasibly not start with The Black Dahlia and be okay, but then you'd miss one of the best of the four books.

Last Looks
by Howard Michael GouldDynamite debut novel from Gould, featuring ex-LAPD cop Charlie Waldo, living as a hermit after a case of his went terribly wrong. Well, he gets pulled back into the movie business and it's a real hoot. Sort of like Carl Hiaasen in Hollywood rather than Miami. I surely hope this is the first of many. 4 stars, highly recommended.
Snatch 2&20: A Satirical Romp through the Wall Street Swamp
by Luke E. FellowsThis comic novel is about the greedy 1% who suck in money using financial shenanigans most people don't understand. Giles Goodenough gets caught up in the system with dire consequences. (Not a spoiler. Giles wakes from a coma at the beginning of the book.)
Very funny story. 4 stars

The next book I picked up because I had the second in the series to read, and I didn't want to start on that until I had read
Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Robotham which turned out to be the best read of the year (so far)https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I have just finished in the past week- Tribal Court, Crimson Lake Road, Aimpoint, Target Down, Hard Way, Every Reasonable Doubt and An Invisible Client. Currently reading By Reason of Insanity

It surprises people that I love a good action story. This filled that spot. Yes there is a high body count. Yes the main char talks about women like the are good for only one thing. But the good guy wins and the real bad guy doesnt.
The Innocent Girls, book two in the Casey White series by B.S. Spangler, and a step up from the first entry. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Don't Look for Me
by Wendy WalkerA woman who's in despair after the death of her child vanishes, and the police believe she left intentionally. Some of her family members don't agree.
Suspenseful thriller. 3 stars

I just enjoyed another delightful escapade with The Honourable Phryne Fisher, the luscious sleuth created by Australian favourite, Kerry Greenwood. 1920s Melbourne is where Miss Fisher investigates a Murder on the Ballarat Train.

I will definitely do that! I'm thinking I'll be finished with it today. It reads fast.

Not really a mystery but I finished:
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Rating: 3 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading the Pulitzer-Prize winner:
The Way West by A.B. Guthrie Jr.
So I finished The Mystery of Henri Pick, and it was lighter fare for me than normal, but there was indeed a mystery to be had although the novel was not truly what I'd consider crime fiction. It did have a great twist though that was somewhat of a gamechanger in my reading of the book.
Once again I have no bloody clue as to what to read next in the realm of mystery/crime. Hopefully one book on my overloaded shelves will call out to me.

I've laughed my way through many of his books, especially Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and Sacré Bleu. He's so much fun.

Commissario Guido Brunetti has several investigations in this case, related to the Camorra (Italian mafia) making huge profits from Italy's trash problems.
Plot's a bit complicated but it's always great to visit with Brunetti. 3 stars
