I am currently reading The Mansfield Park by Jane Austen and a book by London Lovett. I am really enjoying reading both the books!
The Neon Smile
by Dick LochteFinalist 1996 Shamus award for best novel. New Orleans, half the story takes place in 1965 and half in 1995, when the book was written. Very well done mystery regarding a black militant and the NOPD search for a serial killer. Pay attention, lots of moving parts here, but well worth it. 4 stars, highly recommended.
Currently reading FAIR WARNING by Michael Connelly, the third book in his Jack McEvoy mystery series following THE POET and THE SCARECROW.
Just finished:
Invisible Girl
by: Lisa Jewell
Lisa Jewell fans will delight in her new release coming this fall. My full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Descent. Second book in the DI Louise Blackwell series by Matt Brolly. A British police procedural and excellent psychological thriller. It’s a read now on Netgalley.

My 3.5 star review(rounded down) of Heroes and Villains of the British Empire: Their Lives and Legendshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
When the Sacred Ginmill Closes
by Lawrence BlockMatt Scudder #6, OK to read as stand-alone. Multiple price-winning mystery novel, deservedly so. Scudder gets caught up in 3 mysteries and works them all, more or less. This is a fairly early entry in the series and Scudder is still drinking. This is atmospheric and personal mystery writing done at a very high level. 5 stars.
The Suicide House
by Charlie DonleaWhen a toney prep school in Indiana experiences murders and suicides, the media takes notice; a profiler and cold case expert come to town to help sort things out.
Good book (if a bit complex): 3.5 stars

Currently reading Ravens of Blackwater by Edward Marston... really good fun in early medieval England... well murderous fun.
Wild Thing
by Josh BazellPeter Brown #2, series should be read in order. ( 1st is Beat the Reaper) Mafia killer turned doctor Peter Brown is now known as Lionel Azimuth and is hired to accompany an expedition to a lake in Minnesota to verify the existence there of a monster. Craziness and danger ensue. Sad to say this is the last book Bazell has written to date. Absolutely wonderful insanity mixed with a sort-of mystery. 5 stars, highly recommended.
The Geometry of Holding Hands by Alexander McCall Smith In this 13th book in the 'Isabel Dalhousie' series, ethicist Isabel tackles problems related to her niece's engagement, and deals with a dying man's unusual request.
The book has the author's usual thoughtful musings. 3.5 stars

A favourite author is Aussie Sulari Gentill. I love her historical mystery series, and this episode, Gentlemen Formerly Dressed, is a treat! Rowland and his mates are in 1930s London, trying to elude the Nazis. It's a great mix of high and low society, politics, and murder in pre-war England.
5★ Link to my 'Gentlemen' review
Finished The Galton Case by Ross Macdonald. One of the lesser entries in the series. Only recommended to noir fans. Rating - 3/5

Cat's Cradle
by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.In this book Vonnegut presents caricatures of religion, the hubris of scientists, and the dangers of technology. The book has an eclectic variety of weird, often funny, characters.

I finished Seven Years of Darkness yesterday. I don't really do thrillers, but this one was solidly good.
Not a book, but I read The Purloined Letter by Edgar Allan Poe. Probably my favorite of the Dupin stories he wrote, although not my top favorite of his stories.
I just finished listening to American by Day.
Here’s my four star review:

I recently read Missing William Tyrrell by Aussie investigative journalist and author Caroline Overington. It's a thorough, sensitive look at the puzzling and ongoing case of three-year-old William's sudden disappearance in 2014.
