I definitely liked, but didn't love this. I found the number of characters quite overwhelming at times. A good solid piece of Nordic noir. 😷❤😍📚

Barbara, this is the one book of the series that seemed "off" to me. i was very disappointed, but chose to give the next book a try, and it seemed to be back on track. You might want to give the series another shot.

I do suggest reading this series in order, though, because there are relationships that develop, and references to prior events.

Araych | 677 comments Lunatics Lunatics by Dave Barry by Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel

Two guys who hate each other become major criminals and international terrorists. Then turn into humanitarians. Then one of them pees on Sarah Palin. Not really a mystery but too funny not to review. And yes, that is THE Dave Barry. Really enjoyed the book, 4 stars.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I started reading:

The Howling Man by Charles Beaumont
The Howling Man by Charles Beaumont

This collection was published in 1992 but most of the stories originally saw print in the 1950s and early 1960s, with a few published posthumously (Beaumont died in 1967). Beaumont was famous for his scripts for the original Twilight Zone series, and many of his stories were adapted as episodes of the series.

Fethering #13, OK to read as stand-alone. Modern day English cozy. 2 neighbors (Carole and Jude) in Fethering, an English village, solve a murder that everyone thinks is a suicide. Mostly done well enough, if cozies are your thing. 3 stars.

In this 3rd book in the 'Hamish Macbeth' series, the police constable is temporarily assigned to patrol a new town. The book can be read as a standalone.

Fun cozy with interesting characters. 3 stars

It was a 4+/5 for me

Lilith (lilithp) | 368 comments I finished A Cast-Off Coven by Juliet Blackwell. I love this cozy mystery series! Juliet Blackwell researched well, and the characters are so enjoyable. It's more like a visit I look forward to. A bit darker than your average cozy mystery, edging into urban fantasy possibly. Very addictive, and strong, interesting female characters.

Dr. Siri #10, possible to read as stand-alone but starting from the beginning of the series is recommended. Dr. Siri follows up some very obscure clues to uncover a series of terrible crimes. Very clever title but this is not among the best of the series. I'm a big fan of Dr. Siri but this one only gets 3 stars.

It is good, isn't it? I'm looking forward to reading it again. I hope you'll join the June discussion of this novel.

ps/ you might also enjoy her A Dark-Adapted Eye, written as Barbara Vine. I think that's my favorite under that name.

I'm so happy you enjoyed that one, Faith. You should try his The Inugami Curse aka The Inugami Clan -- it is a book filled with impossible crimes with a creepy atmosphere.
