Araych | 676 comments Die Trying Die Trying (Jack Reacher, #2) by Lee Child by Lee Child

Jack Reacher #2, OK to read as stand-alone. Reacher gets hooked up with a right-wing militia. It's a Reacher story; you either like them or you don't. I do. 4 stars.

Donna | 577 comments This is a wonderful little murder-mystery set in 1960's Oklahoma. This sat for too long on my NetGalley backlog shelf. Wish I'd read it earlier. Where the Hurt Is Chris Kelsey Where the Hurt Is by Chris Kelsey

Ethan I just finished reading The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. It was a departure from my usual reading, but I'm happy to have experienced.

Now I'm jumping back into the thriller genre with A Mother's Lie by Sarah Zettel.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9973 comments Ice Cold Ice Cold (Rizzoli & Isles, #8) by Tess Gerritsen by Tess Gerritsen

In this 8th book in the 'Rizzoli and Isles' series, medical examiner Maura Isles finds a body while she's in Wyoming for a medical conference. The book can be read as a standalone.

The plot isn't quite believable. 2 stars

I am really enjoying the description of life in Jersualem and the differences in the Jewish traditions. I do have to keep remembering that it was published in 1969 though.

Petra Connor #2, OK to read as stand-alone. Female LAPD detective and brainy intern unearth a previously unknown serial killer. Dynamite mystery featuring great characters and a tension-filled plot that speeds along at 100 miles per hour. Loved it -- 5 stars.

I am about to start a mystery novel from 1935 calledThe Hex Murder: A Golden-Age Mystery Reprint, published by Coachwhip, which is one of the best indie publishers for golden-age fiction that is completely out of the ordinary mainstream. (Dean Street Press is another). Part of the background of this book is a real-life case in Pennsylvania where three men killed another man, believing that he was a witch and that he had put a spell on one of them. This happened, believe it or not, in 1928.
