Marty | 15 comments I'm about a fifth of the way into Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff. Liking it so far. Can't help but think of 12 Monkeys every time I see the title -- this is a sci-fi mystery/thriller, so maybe the movie connection isn't so far-fetched after all.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9972 comments A Private Cathedral: A Dave Robicheaux Novel A Private Cathedral A Dave Robicheaux Novel by James Lee Burke by James Lee Burke

Detective Dave Robicheaux is one of James Lee Burke's most popular characters. In this book, Dave tries to help a teenage girl who's about to become the sex slave of the patriarch of an evil family.

The book has the author's usual lush imagery and gorgeous prose. 3.5 stars

Barbara | 1 comments Struggling to get through one of the Lenox books by Charles Finch - The Vanishing Man. I'll finish it because I started it but it is very poor writing, a lot of filler material. The Amazon page says it is book 12 in this series, and I know I read one earlier one and wasn't impressed, thought I'd give it one more try. Sometimes books are just not your thing, but other times they are so poor that you are amazed they got published
