I recorded many of the shows but then decided I don't want to see them until I've read the books so I don't risk spoilers. I'll have to track down the shows again later.
About to start
One Of Us Is Lying by Shalini Boland after finishing the 5 star
Magpie Lane by Lucy Atkins. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and my webpage sandysbookaday.wordpress.com
Jean wrote: "I needed a fast-moving adventure-mystery, and Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon books always work for me. Finished Firestorm
. Review: https://www.goodreads.com/revie..."I enjoy that series also, although I do find it hit or miss at times. Firestorm was one of my favorites.
Patty wrote: "I am reading Wisteria Cottage by Robert M. Coates. Another book brought to my attention by Nancy. She has yet to steer me wrong. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4..."
Yes, one could have an amazing reading life just by following Nancy around and reading whatever she reads.
Split Image
by Robert B. ParkerIn this 9th book in the Jesse Stone series, the Police Chief investigates a couple of deaths while he takes his relationship with a private detective to the next level. The book can be read as a standalone.
Thin but serviceable plot. 3 stars
FYI: This is the last "Jesse Stone" novel that Parker wrote himself. The series has continued with other writers.

I've read my share of pretty bad books, believe me. 😱😱😱 It's not always amazing.

I finished The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle. While not a mystery, really, it has a mysterious atmospheric feel, and yes, plenty of crime.Great to discover LaValle. He created an homage to H. P. Lovecraft - and upended Lovecraft's racism on its head. Really well done.
About to begin
Buried Deep by Buried Deep after finishing
One Of Us Is Lying by Shalini Boland. My review can be found at my webpage sandysbookaday.wordpress.com and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. The structure of a story within a story is a bit gimmicky but the mysteries themselves are very satisfying. Rating - 4/5
My Review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished my 21st book of the year:
Pop. 1280 by Jim Thompson
Rating: 4 stars
Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and I started reading:
Wild Fire by Nelson DeMille
I also enjoyed magpie murders.I bailed out of reading The Body Library by Jeff Noon. I found it very hard to read and wasn't nearly as clever as it thought it was.
I read so many promising reviews of Dear Wife
that I had to read it for myself. I was not disappointed! My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am loving all of Joy Ellis’ series. I just finished The Zig Zag Girl.
Here’s my four star review:

Chris wrote: "Finished Payment in Blood by Elizabeth George, #2 in the Inspector Lynley series. 4 stars."It's been a long time since I read an Inspector Lynley mystery. I think I've read the first 4 or 5.
The Suspect
by John LescroartAverage courtroom drama, featuring a new central character. Wyatt Hunt and Devin Juhle play smaller supporting roles.
The Andromeda Evolution
by Daniel H. WilsonIn this sci-fi sequel to 'The Andromeda Strain', the nefarious alien microparticles are back.....and this time they're building a large structure in the Brazilian rain forest.
Good story. 3.5 stars

Although this book probably wouldn't be considered in the crime or thriller genre, some of the short stories do hold elements of crime or suspense, so I'm adding it here. An enjoyable read, if you like short stories, and each one has a twist or surprise at the end. Stealing Smokes: Some Surprising Short Stories by John Hanlon. My review can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and here: https://houseofblackandblue.com/book-...
Kathryn wrote: "Loved Wild Fire, along with the whole John Corey series!"I've enjoyed the John Corey books so far. Just good ol' fashioned fun reads. His sarcastic remarks make me laugh out loud every few pages.
Jean I read that book called Dear Wife by Kimberly Belle and Curlyhair I read that book called Don't Let Go by Harlan Coben
Just finished:
Eight Perfect Murders
by Peter Swanson
Pretty good, but might spoil some classics for the unintiated. My full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I usually read a bunch of books at a time. Current mysteries are:The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (re-read)
Innocent by Scott Turow
I'm only one chapter in on tNotR, so can't comment yet. It's been decades since I read this one, but remembered that I liked it. About 25% through Innocent, and feeling a little meh. Way too much time spent on the affair--I'm just not that interested in reading about people cheating on their spouses, and so far it's going the way these things typically go.
Finished Pop. 1280 by Jim Thompson. A dark comedy in the guise of a noir. Really funny and unique. Rating - 4/5
My Review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A very dark mystery, not for cozy fans. Borrowed Timeit has a surprise ending. My 4 star review

Beginning
After She Wrote Him by Sulari Gentill after finishing
River of Lies by R.M. Greenaway. My spoiler free review can be found at https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Gods of Guilt
by Michael ConnellyLincoln Lawyer #5, possible to read as stand-alone but I recommend you read #1 first. Court room drama as Mickey defends an electronic pimp. One of the finest and most suspenseful mysteries I've read in a while. Highly recommended, 5 stars.
If you've never tried Lynn S. Hightower before, you should. I've now read three of her mysteries and they were all excellent. Satan's Lambs is the 1st book in her Lena Padget series. (5 stars)My review
