Aditya | 2017 comments The Choirboys by Joseph Wambaugh
The Choirboys by Joseph Wambaugh. An unique combination of satire and crime. Equally bleak and funny. Raw and crude yet greatly entertaining. Loved it. Rating - 5/5

Patty | 4449 comments I’m reading The Benefit of Hindsight (book 10 of the Simon Serrailler series) by Susan Hill.

It’s fun to read a who-dunnit. However, often—in this series—the mystery takes a back seat to the interactions of the characters.

The Circular Staircase is a good book. Good, not great, but I love the main character in that one.

Sam Acquillo #4, OK to read as stand-alone. Another very good entry in the series -- dead girl, assorted assholes from Sam's past, and off we go. Series is recommended, 4 stars.

Araych | 676 comments Fatherland Fatherland by Robert Harris by Robert Harris

Police detective follows a mystery started by the discovery of the dead body of a formerly important government official in an alternative-reality Berlin in 1964 in which Germany won WW II. Harris is a talented professional author and the construction of the book shows it. Late in the story there is a detailed description of the Nazi death camps and also a graphic torture scene. Personal reaction : downgraded from 4 stars to 3.

Quite a few people whose opinions I trust on my GR friends list gave it a 2, so don't feel alone. I usually swim against the tide myself.

We'll have to compare notes! I preordered mine months ago when I first heard about it. I got it yesterday and it went right up to the nightstand, because I have a tendency to shelve books and then forget about them.
