The Choirboys by Joseph Wambaugh. An unique combination of satire and crime. Equally bleak and funny. Raw and crude yet greatly entertaining. Loved it. Rating - 5/5

It’s fun to read a who-dunnit. However, often—in this series—the mystery takes a back seat to the interactions of the characters.

The Circular Staircase is a good book. Good, not great, but I love the main character in that one.

Exactly what Nancy said about The Circular Staircase.. I also thought Natchez Burning was pretty good.

Sam Acquillo #4, OK to read as stand-alone. Another very good entry in the series -- dead girl, assorted assholes from Sam's past, and off we go. Series is recommended, 4 stars.

Next book by her is Beyond This Point Are Monsters

She is a little snarky and I love that.

Lucas Davenport is great per usual, I’ll be starting the other tonight.

One of my favorite mystery writers.

In this 29th book in 'Hamish Macbeth' series, the Scottish police sergeant investigates several crimes, including the murder of a skulking police officer.
Fun recurring characters in this series. 3 stars

Police detective follows a mystery started by the discovery of the dead body of a formerly important government official in an alternative-reality Berlin in 1964 in which Germany won WW II. Harris is a talented professional author and the construction of the book shows it. Late in the story there is a detailed description of the Nazi death camps and also a graphic torture scene. Personal reaction : downgraded from 4 stars to 3.
Last night I started reading The Aosawa Murders by Riku Onda. Sadly I was so exhausted that I didn't make it too far in, but it seems good so far.

Quite a few people whose opinions I trust on my GR friends list gave it a 2, so don't feel alone. I usually swim against the tide myself.

We'll have to compare notes! I preordered mine months ago when I first heard about it. I got it yesterday and it went right up to the nightstand, because I have a tendency to shelve books and then forget about them.

This is the first book in Janet Evanovich's new comical mystery series, written with Phoef Sutton, about Emerson Knight and Riley Moon - an oddball billionaire and junior financial analyst who solve crimes together.
The book is entertaining. 3 stars

I appreciate the heads-up on this, especially about the death camps and torture scene. I shiver just thinking about it.
