Yay, thank you! Yes, check out Tana French. This series is really good, and keeps you guessing and kind of messes with your head a little.

Marty (martymill) | 1300 comments The Lazarus Files A Cold Case Investigation by Matthew McGough - Finished 1/11/2020, two star rating.

Oof, this one was a chore to read. I'm glad I got it out of the way first. I like detail in my true crime, but this was overboard. Too much cutesy info on Sherri's family dynamic, way too much detail on Stephanie Lazarus (the perp). Then there were the comments on unrelated cases (Nightstalker, OJ) that broke up the already clunky narrative. This was a couple hundred pages too long.

Wow. Just finished A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin . What a fantastic story! Will definitely read the rest of this series.

Just read The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo last night. Great story, and a quick read.

message 116: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jari-chan) Finished Small Spaces (Small Spaces, #1) by Katherine Arden today. A great book, especially if you love Halloween.

message 117: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1600 comments Hoping to finish The Madman’s Daughter (The Madman’s Daughter, #1) by Megan Shepherd this week 🤞

message 118: by Danielle Gypsy Soul (last edited Jan 27, 2020 03:49PM) (new)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1919 comments Suzanne,

Thanks for the picks. I finished all 3

Silent Blade (Kinsmen, #1) by Ilona Andrews - not my favorite IA since I didn't much like the hero but the amazing heroine made up for it.

Three Mages and a Margarita (The Guild Codex Spellbound, #1) by Annette Marie - Loved this one - can't wait to read more

Cat Tales (Jane Yellowrock, #3.5) by Faith Hunter - good background on the secondary characters. Will read the next book in his series in Feb.

Jonquil | 699 comments Thanks, again, to Ezi.

Alien in the Family (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #3) by Gini Koch This has been on my TBR since June 2013. It was okay, but didn't measure up to my expectations. 1/27 ★★★

Red Wolf (Shifters Unbound, #10) by Jennifer Ashley I added this to my TBR in June 2017 when I spotted it on my library's overdrive new acquisitions page. I know shifters are generally portrayed as violent (wolf, duh) but I would have preferred less blood sport and less "putting the little woman in her place". Despite that, I needed to see how the story unfolded and resolved. 1/3 ★★★★

The Spirit Thief (The Legend of Eli Monpress, #1) by Rachel Aaron Until Ezi's suggestion, Rachel Aaron wasn't even on my radar. The story hooked me from the start. If you've read YA fantasy, some of the escapades will evoke memories of other books, but that made the book feel familiar, similar to sitting in the same seat in English class each week. It was a nice escape for a 3-day weekend. ★★★★

VampAmber | 622 comments I finished one of my dusty books this month, The Eyes of the Sphinx The Newest Evidence of Extraterrestial Contact in Ancient Egypt by Erich von Däniken . He may throw out some of the most insane, impossible theories you've ever heard, but at least he's really interesting about it. I really loved this book, even if most of it was said crazy theories. ^_^

message 121: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (jari-chan) Today I finished my other two books: Revenge of the Sith and The Hunt for Red October

I'm very happy to have finally read them both. Especially the Star Wars one was unexpectatedly good.

message 122: by Louise (new)

Louise | 1600 comments Thank you Chelle for my picks. I read The Madman’s Daughter (The Madman’s Daughter, #1) by Megan Shepherd what a surprisingly good read.

Marty, I just finished The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins and it was fantastic!! Thanks so much for prompting me to read this... I rarely make all three books in one month. Well worth the effort.

message 125: by Mirliz (new)

Mirliz | 98 comments I finished The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Adventures of Tom and Huck, #1) by Mark Twain and enjoyed it. I'm glad that I have finally read this classic.

I wanted to let you know that I read Prince of Dreams (Stokehurst, #2) by Lisa Kleypas and it was a 3-star. It wasn't as good as the other works of this author, who is one of MY FAVORITE authors. I can definitely tell that book was one of her older works.

I did listen to the Bonus book The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black . It seems to be really popular book here on GR but I wasn't able to get into it. I will be honest, I didn't enjoy A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas either
