Great! Shall we wait to see if anybody else would like to join and then set up a reading schedule/topic.

message 157: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari I am currently reading North and South with a group and I am on chapter 36. It is very good book and I am enjoying it. I would look forward for discussions.

Great, I'll probably set up the topic today/tomorrow and then sort out some kind of reading schedule.

Hi! I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to update you about this buddy read. I know it has been a while, so I wanted to ask, are you still interested in doing this buddy read?
I also wanted to mention that there will be a buddy read for this book hosted by a bookstagramer on instagram if you are interested in joining that. It looks like it will only be us buddy reading The Iliad here. There is a much larger buddy read group on instagram. Let me know if you are still interested in buddy reading. If you are, I will post the reading schedule. If you are not, that is fine. Or let me know if you are interested in the instagram buddy read. :)

Hey! Sorry for the extremely late response! I think I will be passing on this buddy read after all. I do not have an Instagram anymore, unfortunately, and it would probably be more fun to have a larger group for discussion so you can go ahead and pursue that one!

message 168: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments Would anyone be interested in buddy reading lord of the rings?

message 169: by Tammie (new)

Tammie Leah wrote: "Would anyone be interested in buddy reading lord of the rings?"

I would totally read Lord of the Rings with you, it's been something I've wanted to read for years.

message 170: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments It would be when everyone is ready go read them, of course! I wouldn't mind waiting till next month if that's what's easiest for everyone :)

message 171: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments read *to read them

message 172: by Li (new)

Li He I also want to read The Lord of the Rings. But my hands are full this month, and someone is talking about Middlemarch for July...

message 173: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments I don't want to wait too long to read it because forcing myself to read high fantasy when I'm not in the mood can put me into a reading slump :/ when is the earliest that everyone can do it?

message 174: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments My copy came this morning and I'm so excited to dive into it

message 175: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments Can someone share more about these bookstagram reads? I see some posts from friends but don’t know how to find what I’m looking for and how to get involved.

message 176: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments I don't know about the bookstagram reads so I can't help you, I'm sorry. but I'm sure someone here can

message 177: by Leah (new)

Leah | 51 comments I'll probably just go ahead and read lord of the rings myself, I'm too excited about it when I see it sitting on my bookshelf. If the buddy read does go ahead and you all read it however I will, of course, participate in the discussion about the book. I'm sorry to suggest it and then drop out, I really hope I didn't upset anyone.

message 178: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments I would love to join you just for the sake of reading with a buddy, but I’ve tried so hard to like LOTR and can’t! The furthest I got was 1/3 of the way through the first book on Audible. That was last month. So I don’t think I can do it! But I’m so glad I found this group and that you all have some great active reads going! Good luck with LOTR!

message 179: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments There’s a new thread about War and Peace. Who wants to join??

I'm down

message 182: by Timár_Krisztina (new)

Timár_Krisztina | 113 comments Would anyone be interested in reading a Hungarian classic with me? It's Margit Kaffka's Colours and Years, and I've just realised it has an English translation which seems to do it justice. The question is whether it's available to any of you.
It's a re-reading for me, so I can recommend it to you as a fine representation of Hungarian gentry at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. It's also the story of a woman growing into adulthood and old age, remembering the past in impressionistic images.
Shall I start the buddy read?

message 183: by Solomon (new)

Solomon Tsai | 5 comments Would anyone like to buddy read 1984?

message 184: by Elizaveta (new)

Elizaveta (annabelle_126) | 10 comments Hi! Would anyone be interested in reading Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier in November with me? Recently there has been a movie adaptation of the book, so I thought it’d be better to read the book first :)

message 188: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments I’m trying to finish it before Halloween. I’m not sure if I will as I’ve only read the first chapter, but I’m trying to squeeze a bunch of spooky reads in this month. I will check in with you when you start and see if I’ve gotten through it or not. It is tempting to wait now though 🤔

message 189: by Li (new)

Li He I have Rebecca and it is in my to-read list. I may join in.

Li He Looks like another group is going to have this book for December group read. Currently this book gathered the most votes for December group read, but the vote is still ongoing. I'll finish my current read first and see how it goes.
