Franu wrote: "Does anybody want to buddy read The Picture of Dorian Gray?? or Far from the Madding Crowd?"I am interested in reading both of these books, especially Far From the Madding Crowd. :)
anybody interested in reading The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling by Henry Fielding? also I will definitely piggy back onto any Brontë buddy read!
Does anybody want to read "Sister Carrie" by Theodore Dreiser? At the very beginning of February I'm engaged with "Breakfast at Tiffany's", but then I'm free to read it.
This thread seems a little dead but going to go ahead and see if anyone is interested in any buddy reads for March 2021? For classics in March, I have Jude the Obscure and The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas on my tentative TBR . Jude in particular I'm thinking may be nice to read with someone, given that it is apparently a sadder novel. (I actually would be open to buddy reading any Hardy novel. I read The Mayor of Casterbridge in February as my first Hardy, so have quite a few potential places to go!)

I want to read more by Thomas Hardy this year, as I have only read Tess of the d'Urbervilles before.

Or would you be interested in setting up a buddy read for a different Hardy novel in the future?
Ok, trying to do these way ahead of time so that we can all find buddy reads: What are you guys reading in April?
I have several classics waiting for me on my shelf: a couple of Austens, A Tale of Two Cities, The Tale of Genji, and I'm always happy to add to the collection!
hello!
Would anyone like to read either David Copperfield or Oliver Twist? If you're interested just message meee <3

Ashley wrote: "I would love to read Tale of the Gengi! I plan to read more Wendell Berry too."There was a buddy read for the Tale of Genji last year in which I participated. It is a very difficult book. The main difficulty is that it is a thousand years old, set in a culture which is completely alien to us now, and rife with cultural references from its context which must be explained in notes or a companion reading guide. It takes a lot of work, but if you can enter into that world it is very interesting a beautiful. But it is easy to get started and just bounce off. The first thing you will notice is that it is about a bunch of young men, highly privileged poetasters, behaving badly.
By late spring / early summer last year the thread for that buddy read had gone dark. I left the last post on it about 9 months ago. I finished the Tale of Genji in early August last year.
I don't think I want to commit to rereading it again this year (although there is a new edition coming out soon), but I would be happy to discuss it with you as you read it if you like.

Thanks for the heads up! Feeling a little apprehensive now, but I figure that I'll probably have to read it several times anyways. Classics are usually worth (and necessary) re-reading. :)
Hi! I'm starting "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen, does anyone want to join me? I want to find a reading buddy to discuss this book now:)
