30.1 Celebrating Louise Erdrich
Two book task from options based on titles of Ms Erdrich's books and literary influences. State which options you chose when you post.
This task is a celebration of the amazing author Louise Erdrich.
One of my favorite authors too!
***I am also claiming a Golden Oldies Ticket for Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson with the original published date of 1884*******.
Book 1: Option 2: The Round House
In 2012 Ms Erdrich won the National Book Award for her novel The Round House. Very well deserved as it is an excellent novel!
For this task read a book from the list Native American Fiction. State the page on which you found the book.
I read the wonderful book RAMONA by Helen Hunt Jackson. It is on Page 1 #88 on the list.
Ramona
Most people have never heard of this book. I know it because my mom told me the movie was her favorite when she was younger. I saws thrilled to find that the movie was based on a book! I discovered Ramona is a very important 19th century novel. Helen Hunt Jackson was a champion of Indian rights, served as ambassador to California and Ramona was held as one of the two most important books on racism in 9th century American literature. The other was Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Mrs Jackson was also friends with Emily Dickinson, who is said to have had an affair with Mrs Jackson's husband.
Book 2: Option 4 Literary Influence
Louise Erdrich's greatest literary influence was William Faulkner.
read a book whose author initials are either LE or WF, emulating either Erdrich or Faulkner.
I chose the initials L E and read the delightful novel, Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel.
Like Water for Chocolate
The book is really weird but in a good way! It has family intrigue, two love triangles, history, household remedies and food! I laughed, cried, got sooo angry at everyone! and craved Mexican food, especially dishes prepared with mole! I loved it! My favorite holiday book for 2019. ! The movie is good too!

To celebrate the holiday season with family and friends most important to us, read a book with HOME, HOLIDAY, FAMILY or FRIEND intact in the title, subtitle or series title.
I read A SOUTHERN FAMILY by Gail Godwin.
A Southern Family
Gail Godwin is one of my favorite authors. Not too many people seem to know her work but her books are always centered around family relationships and she is a wonderful Southern writer. This is my first reading of A Southern Family and it is among my favorites that I have read so far.
