Swap the word cackling with swearing, and you've got the picture.

Who said that cackling and cussing can't go together? ;o)

message 157: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59998 comments Confession time. I haven't done all that much swearing. Yesterday morning, Alan texted, "Send me the link to all the questions." I started smiling (cackling) because I knew what was coming. An hour later, "Do you still have the spreadsheet we were playing around on? Send it to me."

I'm such a proud mom. He set the entire spreadsheet up for me. I didn't have all the participants listed so I will have to add them, but that's simple enough. I just have to copy and paste 180 line items for each of them. But, he did the lion's share of that so I won't complain.

I've started using it, but still tracking on the old one. It is a duplication, but I need it completely running the way I want it to run before I abandon the old.

This reminds me a bit of what my older kids would do for school research papers. They would ask their father if he knew anything about the topic. A day or so later my husband would give them a bunch of information. Then they would write up the paper without doing much research. Smart kids :)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2559 comments I'm already starting to read books for badge 3 because I don't dare slot them for something else they fit in that is open for fear I won't find another book for a slot I'm putting them in. Clearly I need to read in a different order so I won't feel like I am slowing myself down....

That's definitely allowed. You can report them when you are finished them, too.

message 167: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Can I be a nitpicker about one answer that is spelt wrong?
The answer wont affect the tasks but you do need to be ACCURATE when it comes to trivia, right?

Card 11 - Question 2 - Entertainment. The answer does NOT start with Z.

I am a Kiwi and I was living in NZ when the series was being made!! I have since emigrated to Canada.

Thanks.

message 168: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11662 comments It doesn't but we all understand the intension of the answer. Xena is a pretty well known show. I think Janice can be forgiven the occasional phonetic spelling :-)

message 171: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier For those of us who are newbies - where and how do we find what percentage of books are of a certain colour? Your tasks mention 50% or 75%. I have no idea where or how to find that information. Thank you.

Jayme | 4544 comments Hi Janice - I'm not sure if this question has been asked and I reread the directions, but I'm still not sure about the answer. Here goes...

Can I request badge 3 even if I'm not finished with badge 2 yet? Or do I need to wait to submit badge 3 until after I complete badge 2? It seems that all my hold books are becoming available and they are slotted for the same few cards.
It really isn't a big deal, but I was just curious.

Yes, you may. Just mark it as "out of order". It is in the rules somewhere.

message 177: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Sorry I’m confused, just so I’m clear, this is for requesting the badges out of order, not just reporting books out of order?

message 178: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59998 comments Sorry! I didn't read Jayme's question properly. No, you may not request badge 3 before you have finished badge 1 and 2.

You may report books out of order, but not request badges out of order.

uncomfytomato | 265 comments Hello, this is my first time Joining a group and trying this

to be honest ,I'm very slow I had to read it a few times
from my understanding this is how it works (and please correct me if I'm wrong) :

for example:
1- Badge 1, book 1
2- card 1
3- yay task- geography
4- link: Stepsister
5- hardcover , 352 pages
6- the task : Set in France or written by French author
7- the story is set in France
8- no specifications

is this correct, oh and I've seen people reporting in very quickly, just to be sure, you do have to finished and review the book then post it ? or do I post all my options and cards/task then report that I read the books?

I'm sorry if I'm making this complicated, just want to be sure

That is how you would report a completed book. We have some speed readers in the group who have already finished the first 12 books.

You will need to set up your own personal thread (instructions are in the general challenge thread). You can track however works best for you. Take a look at how others have set up their threads for ideas. When you finish a book, report it exactly if as you did above in your personal thread. Report 1 book per message.

Saar The Book owl | 2651 comments I've seem to have a problem with my shelve. I made a shelf for the challenge and I made one for the booksnI've read for the challenge. But on the main page of YLTO it keeps saying '1 book', but I've finished 2. The first one isn't showing?

message 182: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19217 comments Check that your read date is correct on the missing book Saar. The two most common issues are people forgetting to add the book to the shelf and having an incorrect or missing read date.

message 183: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59998 comments Saar, you don't have a date read for Rotherweird.

Fiona (fiiicoooo) | 270 comments Question about badge 3. I already reported one book. If I want to report another book for that badge that isn't from that card, can I report it for badge 3 book 6? Or does it have to be book 2? My inner Monk would like to keep the tasks from one card together.

It would be Badge 3, book 2.

Amanda | 1797 comments If I know that I'm going to finish badge 3 and I'm going to do certain cards, say 1-5, for that badge, but I read a second book on card 6, can I go ahead and report it for badge 4?

You may, but you don't need to. You could report it as badge 3, because any stragglers left over when you finish badge 3 will be automatically moved to badge 4. That way, you can change your mind about completing a specific card.

that was such a great question, Amanda! And great to know there's that flexibility, Janice! I tentatively figured out which cards I think I'll finish, but it could definitely change, so I like that we can post them all to 3 for now, and then move the stragglers to 4 after completing 3! 🙌

message 191: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59998 comments It does give more flexibility. I'm constantly changing books around on my spreadsheet, and I can see me thinking I'll concentrate on one card only to find another card filling up faster.

I love this! I really need to find a few minutes to update my challenge. I've read two books for it (or maybe 3?) that I haven't had a chance to report yet.

(I feel like I need to read a bunch and move them around to give you a reason to play more. lol)

I don't add all that many to my wishlist. I only add those that really intrigue me. As it is, I need to go through it and pare it down.

message 200: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Furr (lucyfurr) | 775 comments So, I found a resource that could be really helpful for finding books that take place in certain areas. Mappit has a function on its website that lets you search a large database of books by location (city, country, state, etc) and has made my "books set in x area" searches so much easier. I just found it so I've only done a couple searches but its been accurate so far. Hope this helps!
