I do the same. E.g. tasks that require a certain word in the title or author name, those I try to gopher for, but more general tasks, like a certain MPG, those I usually manage to fulfill more "spontaneously".

My wishlist suffers from the same problem. I have over 1000 book on it and need to do some deletions. I remember one person said that she deleted everything that she didn't recognize. I'm thinking that perhaps I'd delete anything with a 3.5 or lower rating. One thing I've started doing is deleting those books that come up repeatedly on sales and I don't buy them. If I've rejected them five times in a sale, why are they still on my wishlist?

I used to carry a notebook in my purse with a list of maybe 10 books that I would watch for when I was shopping. And then I joined Goodreads. LOL!

I also have both April tasks with nothing picked yet for either. To make matters worse the book I'm currently reading is set in April - A Study in Silks. Haven't decided whether or not I like it but it's set in April if anyone wants it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments I kept track of monthly settings when we did the Zany Zodiac challenge. Here are some April books:

Outrun the Moon
The Cruelest Month
Airframe
Hunting Houses
A Crack in the Edge of the World

I'm going to add these here too:
A Study in Silks
The Ides of April

message 105: by Grainne (new)

Grainne Coughlan | 1316 comments That happens to me too Cherie. I add to my TBR list so easily but I seldom delete from it. Usually, I add a number of books for a theme I am interested but I will end up reading one of those which I think it’s one and I forget about the rest forever. Until I look at my TBR and realize that they are still there. I have started editing like Janice suggested and deleting books with lower ratings.

Thanks Janice, I was just looking at the Louise Penny series and put it in for April. Detective series are so handy for months but they often don't mention it in the blurb. Don't they realize this is important 😂

Also I only have the one April task after all so phew

Thank you! This will be helpful. Could you copy and paste into the card question threads that have those tasks? I haven't gotten through to the April tasks yet to know if I have one (I'm sure I will) and I know I'll lose these by the time I get there.

Also, have you read any of these? Would you recommend them?

L'm cleaning a little bit at a time. During the Holidays, I'll finish. People were recommending books and I wanted to be nice and kept cliking want to read but some are just not my style.

Yes. They just slowly add up. I currently have 1371 books on my TBR and another 317 on a maybe read shelf that I created. I will never get to them all. I'm thinking after the new year maybe I'll have time to clean some out.

message 116: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments Trivial Pursuit has an error on Card 16, question 1. Zero degrees north latitude is the equator, not the north pole. The north pole is 90 degrees north.

I have changed the question to read, "What lies at 90 degrees north latitude?"

I will leave it up to you as to whether or not you keep your Yay or Nay task, or switch it according to how you originally answered. I think that would be the easiest solution.

This option only applies to people who have answered their questions prior to today's date (Dec 24, 2019). Anyone answering their questions after that date will have the correct question to work with and this option will not apply.

message 117: by Peggy (last edited Dec 24, 2019 02:42AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, I thought it was the North Pole, but Rob said it wasn't. I was right (or so I thought, until now) and was so happy I got a question like that right, while Rob had it wrong! I think I'll just keep silent about this ;-) I am going to change to the Nay task though, as I had the question wrong. I had one option for the Yay task though, and none for the Nay, so I'm not sure if this is working out for me ;-)

message 118: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11662 comments Hehe, I got a "yay" for that one, but would be very happy to switch as I don't enjoy Christmas books as a rule. BUT I do know that's not the spirit of the thing so maybe not. I will mull it over 😃

message 119: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11280 comments I also got it "right"!! :) I think I am going to change, since I already have a book in mind that fits the Nay task.

message 120: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments I'm going to stay with the Yay task. The answer was right, even though the question was wrong. Does that even make sense? I've got Krampus: The Yule Lord slotted and I've had that audiobook for way too long.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Re Card 16 Question 1.
Hmm, I think you just pushed me over the edge, Janice. I answered Yay and even have a book for the task, but I really wanted to start reading a library book that came early, and had been slotted into the winter/summer task. I am going to move my Christmas book to the winter/summer task, and go with the Nay option. I own two other books with a direction in the title. Thanks for letting me read another Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series book earlier than I had expected.

message 123: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4543 comments Ok I will change to the Nay task because even though I got Yay originally I really got Nay. I think? Hahaha

Jannene | 3124 comments When does the new challenge reset? It still has last year’s movie mania and not the trivia test.

I like to plug in my goal of what I will read toward this year’s challenge.

message 131: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm definitely going to change to Nay. The thought of reading a book about Christmas doesn't fill me with joy!

message 132: by Niloofar (new)

Niloofar | 86 comments Honestly this is one of the most elaborate reading challenges that I've ever seen! :) You guys do something like this every year? and is there a deadline for starting the challenge?

message 133: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Janice comes up with the most amazing challenges every year! She keeps us very busy with reading ;-)

You can jump in whenever you want, but you can only count books you read from the moment you sign up. So if you start now, you can't use books that you read before today (good thing the new year is only 4 days old ;-))

message 134: by Niloofar (last edited Jan 04, 2020 01:05PM) (new)

Niloofar | 86 comments It's really impressive. :)

That's great, i'll do that as soon as I've answered the questions then. I'm glad to start this reading year here. Thanks!🌼

Kristie | 19216 comments Every year Janice says she’s going to make it simpler... lol Every year she comes up with an amazing, elaborate challenge.

message 136: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's great to hear Niloo! You picked a great group to join. Lots of activities, chitchat and nice people. I'm sure you'll fit right in!

message 137: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh, and don't hesitate to ask if something's unclear or if you have any other questions about this group :)

message 138: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11280 comments Janice is a reading challenges goddess.

message 139: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments Thanks for the glowing accolades. :) Next year, it will be less intense. This one nearly did me in.

Niloo, your start date for the challenge will be determined by the date you set up your personal report thread. Any book you start from that point on will count. Enjoy!

message 140: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19216 comments See... next year. ;) lol I do think this year would be really difficult and unrealistic to top though. A crazy amount of thought went into this. It will certainly keep us all and Janice busy all year.

message 141: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4477 comments Yes, Janice you are the reading challenge goddess for sure! Not only do you make these great challenges - you are also here to answer our every little question and make rulings on our books. You rock!

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments My son was over today for a few hours teaching me great things to do with Excel. I'm going to redo my tracker with tables, formulas, and filters. I'll be able to filter out Card 1, Geography Nay and get a list of what books were actually read for that task.

Oh cool! You're going to be playing with that a lot. I know I would.

message 146: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments I have a tracker built and am using it. It's going to take me a while to build the new one, and then I'll have to add all the books that have been already read. I might decide at some point that it will be too much work. But, I'm learning new things and that's fun.

message 147: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments That’s awesome Janice! Excel is soooo much fun, and it can do so much 😃

message 148: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments I felt bad for him because I was all about the application and what I want from it. He was all about the mechanics. It was:

Me: Change the header to Category, please.
Alan: Mom! It doesn't mean anything. It's just an example.
Me: I know, but I would feel better if it read Category.
Alan: Fine!

Alan: (as he fixes all the borders on his lists because one is missing) My OCD is really bothered by this.
Me: It's just an example.

LOL!

message 149: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11280 comments lol, Janice. I know what you mean. When my oldest son complains about something he is trying to explain and I don't get, I always tell him that teach him to use a spoon and potty training him wasn't easier. :D

message 150: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59997 comments LOL! Aren't sons the best? Mine gets his OCD from someone near and dear to him, so I just chuckled anytime he added a border.
