29 - A book with a bird on the cover

Soft in the Head has a great first line too! "I've decided to adopt Margueritte. She'll be eighty-six any day now so there seemed no point in putting it off . Old people have a tendency to die."
And there's an upside down image on the cover.
Many thanks to the person who recommended this book. I can't remember your post or thread, but I'm in love with this book already. That's why I love this group!

Every time I think I've had enough WWII fiction, I read one and love it. This one actually made me cry because it's just not fair in so many ways.
My original choice for this was The Unhoneymooners and now I'm annoyed because suddenly the search function is down and I can't link, lol.
Anyways, we'll see how the year goes. If I keep up my speed I may come back for this one.

Prompt: a book with a bird on the cover.
This book took me about two weeks to read because it is about a child learning to deal with the death of her mother, never a lighthearted topic. The author’s use of color to describe emotions and actions in the book was unique, fun and refreshing. It was like having an entirely new set of words for various feelings. Great read for a mature young adult but amazing for anyone who has struggled with the death of someone close to them.

Oh two of my favorite things! Stories by First Nations writers, and horror! And the Arctic! OK, 3 things.

I recognize my privilege and unconscious bias, and I'm taking this book for what it is, despite the controversy.

This book was really great, and I'm not a birder.

Appreciate the recommendation. I'm thinking of reading Among Penguins: A Bird Man in Antarctica by Noah Strycker, so it's good to hear that you enjoyed his writing.

Fell in love with the cover! Very funny guide, and some really accurate depictions of North American birds - author's sarcastic jibes aside. Perfect between a couple of heavier reads.
