2. Between 1936 & 1963, Garland acted and sang in over 30 movies, but perhaps her most well-known role was as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz (1939). In 1939, Garland won an Academy Award, the juvenile award, for her films, including The Wizard of Oz and Babes in Arms.
🎭Read a fantasy.

🎭Read a book that is also a movie.

3. By 1950, Garland had recorded over 80 sides for Decca Records. She also made almost 300 radio appearances between 1935 and 1953. She also made several tours to entertain stateside servicemen and women during WWII.
🎭Read a book that has a character in the military.
🎭Read a book that has the number 8, 3, &/or 0 for page numbers or in the title.

4. In 1951, Garland began a four-month concert UK tour, where she played to sold-out audiences. The successful concert tour was the first of her many comebacks, with performances that focused on songs by Al Jolson and the revival of vaudeville. Garland was honored with a Special Tony Award for her contribution to the revival of vaudeville.
🎭Read a book that takes place UK.
Just Like Heaven, Julia Quinn, 09.12.2019

🎭Read a book where a character makes a comeback; you decide and tell us what it is.

5. Garland was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for A Star Is Born. She was unable to attend because she had just given birth to her son, so a television crew was in her hospital room. However, Grace Kelly won. Groucho Marx sent Garland a telegram after the awards ceremony, declaring her loss "the biggest robbery since Brinks".
🎭Read a book where the MC misses/loses something. Tell us what they miss/lose.
🎭Read a book with an unusual setting.
🎭Read a book that involves a robbery.

6. Garland appeared in a number of television specials. Her first was the 1955 debut episode of Ford Star Jubilee; it was a triumph, scoring a 34.8 Nielsen rating. Her concert appearance at Carnegie Hall on April 23, 1961, was a considerable highlight, called by many "the greatest night in show business history". 🎭Read a book that takes place in New York.
🎭Read a book with a sparkly cover.

9. Garland continued working until her death in 1969 from an accidental overdose. Close friends of Garland's have insisted that she never truly wanted to be a movie star and would have much rather devoted her career entirely to singing and recording records. Garland was known for interacting with her audiences during live performances and herself explained in 1961: "A really great reception makes me feel like I have a great big warm heating pad all over me ... I truly have a great love for an audience.
