MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments I've finished my 11th book in this interesting Summer Challenge. As mentioned in previous posts, I have a determination to read some of the great classics of Australian literature, and so for this part of the challenge, I tackled a famous Australian play. It was refreshing to read a different genre of book, and the story behind this drama gave me much food for thought.

One of my favourite reads of 2014, Kira, and such a mature effort from a first time novelist. It is a terrific book - glad you enjoyed it so much, as did I.

message 731: by Dana (new)

Dana | 144 comments I have just finished my historical fiction The Signature of All Things 3.5★ It is hard to say why I neither loved nor hated this book. The language was beautiful, images vivid but I find this kind of literature slightly depressing and in all honesty is probably why I stopped reading so much of it many years ago.

I have changed my Australia Day book to True Spirit: The Aussie girl who took on the world as I wanted to read a non fiction title for this one and I was finding Anzac Girls a little hard to settle into. So far, so good.

message 732: by Carolyn (last edited Jan 20, 2015 12:30AM) (new)

Carolyn | 9892 comments I read Kinglake-350 by Adrian Hyland as my #8.Summer in Australia book.

It was a terrifically well written account of the Black Saturday bushfire in Victoria in 2009 - very compelling reading, quite gripping and also emotional to read about what people went through during that horrific time. 5★

message 733: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie | 715 comments Currently reading my last book of the challenge: The Road

I was able to put up my review of Bloodlines because it's now been released!! ★★★★★ book, but it's the last of a trilogy, I know the first book is on sale for 99c for a short time if you like crime. This is by a female Aussie author, so it'd fit for your AWW challenge or the Australian Author Challenge. :) I can't recommend these books enough.

I am happy so long as I read more books than I usually do per month. Challenges just help to give me a push.
