Street Game (GhostWalkers, #8) by Christine Feehan
Book:
Street Game (Ghostwalkers, #8)
Read: 1/1/15
Rating & Review: ★★★½.
I didn't enjoy this one as much. Mack and his crew were a completely different Ghostwalker team than the one we had been following for the prior 7 books. I don't think the author eased me into the new group but threw me in. I also see the next book is still with this group.

I don't get it. There is no real connection to the group working with Lily Whitney and her Ghostwalkers other than similar origin (Peter Whitney's experiments) and they know Peter Whitney's experiment was too invasive and went over all ethical boundaries.

It's like starting the series all over. To make matters worse, I don't like Mack. I like Jaimie and was glad she left him, but of course they were engineered back together. I will have to work harder at getting over this bias of mine.

A Notorious Countess Confesses (Pennyroyal Green, #7) by Julie Anne Long
1/1/15 5★

Review:
Absolutely loved this installment in the Pennyroyal Green series. Reverend Adam Silvain, cousin to the Everseas, is a very good man and beloved in the town. Along comes Eve, Countess of Wareham - who has not led an exemplary life and is not liked at all by the town. And they certainly don't want their favorite bachelor sucked in by a courtesan. But love has its own plan and its own power. The writing, characters and storyline are wonderful. I found myself re-reading sentences simply to experience them again. And Eve is one of my favorite characters in a very long time.

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) by Cassandra Clare

Book:
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare #5 in a series
Finished: 01/03/15
Rates: ★★★★

Review:
Jace is now bound to Sebastian because of the mark of Lilith, which means that if anyone hurts Sebastian you also hurt Jace. Clary once again puts her life on the line as she travels with Jace and Sebastian, to try and find out his plans. All the while Simon and the Shadowhunters in New York, tries to find a weapon that can kill one of them without hurting the other.

I still like the pace of these books, but it gets a little muddled up with all the changing of POV all the time. It used to just be Clary's POV until the 4th book, but I do understand why it was necessary, it must just be able to do it in another way. I look forward to see how it all ends up, but I still think that it could have been better had it ended after City of Glass.

Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth
3 Stars

I’ve had this on my TBR for a very long time. I am not a big YA Fantasy reader, but I wanted to compare the book to the movie. The basic premise is set in dystopian Chicago where the world is divided into five factions and 16 year olds much choose which faction that they want. They are then removed from their families and sent off to train in their respective faction. The story centers on Beatrice whose test results are inconclusive. This entire book reminds me of The Hunger Games, Matched, and The Giver all rolled into a huge ball of fluff. I will read book 2 and then decide if I want to continue with this series.

message 285: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1052 comments Debbie, I read book 1 and 2 and enjoyed them. I liked them a lot more than Hunger Games, though an English Teacher friend says I'm crazy! I have heard terrible things about book 3, so I never finished the series.
Nice review!

Ezi, Gator is the only cajun in this series, though didn't she have another book set in La? But she has had other characters and books set in Louisiana in her Dark series. I actually have a pet peeve about any book set in New Orleans/Louisiana and gets it wrong - which they almost all do.
I liked the next one in the series and it continues with this same group.

Forged in Steele (KGI, #7) by Maya Banks
Book:
Forged in Steele (KGI, #7)
Read: 1/6/15
Rating & Review: ★★★★.
this was Steele's book. There are 2 non-Kelly teams that work with Sam Kelly, Steele is the leader of a team and Rio is the leader of another team.

In this book, "Iceman" Steele decided that the best way to get over his dream girl Dr. Maren Scoffield was to have a weekend of passion with her. That way he can move on without her haunting his dreams. The problem was, once Steele had a piece of Maren, he found he wanted more.

This one was much better than the prior books. It was nice to see Maren thaw out Steele's heart. I also didn't remember Steele's first name until this book. The couple had great chemistry and it was a nice adventurous story. I honestly didn't get why the bad guy was obsessed with Maren. That aspect of the story was kind of thrown out there. I did love Maren's strength in character and desire to help others. She was definitely different from the prior Heroines in that manner. She was the closest to Sara, but Mara had much less baggage.

I enjoyed seeing PJ doing well with Cole as well as a reappearance of Hancock. I think Maya Banks did a good job in redeeming Hancock.

Review:
I'd seen a lot of people speaking well about this book, so when I saw it at the store last weekend, I couldn't help but buy it. I'm so happy that I did and got to know about Cormoran Strike.
When a frustrated supermodel, Lula Landry, falls from a third floor balcony into her death, everyone thinks it's suicide. Lula's brother has his doubts and turns to Private Detective - Cormoran Strike to seek help in finding Lula's murderer.
First I want to praise the author for the writing. I really loved it. She managed to build the story up perfectly, and her description of the characters were very thorough, I really still feel like I know them all.
I loved the professional bond between Strike and Robin, they just seemed like the perfect team. Even though Strike has been through all the things he had in his childhood as well as his time in Afghanistan, he still has an amazing humor, and I loved the way he viewed the super wealthy people.
I also want to say that I didn't have a clue about who was the killer until it was revealed in the last chapter. I was sure I knew but she had me fooled. I can't not give this book 5 stars and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Review: This is a re-read for me and I liked it every bit as much the second time around as I did the first time I read it. Aryal is a different type of heroine but Ms. Harrison manages to bring some softness and vulnerability to the character without compromising her essential harpy self. And Quentin is awesome as well. The story takes the two of them to Numenlour and back to the Elves. But it is essentially a story about the two of them. And that's enough.
