This is a very hard book for me to review as there were things I liked and things I didn't. I was very excited by the prospect of a new series by the author as I have really enjoyed her previous works. The beginning of the book was quite awkward as the world was explained in rather simplistic language. It felt a little like sitting in a first grade classroom. I wasn't sure where it was all going. Once our hero Dethan meets the heroine of the story Selinda, it begins to pick up. As long as the story centered around the two of them, I was engaged. The difficult parts of the book included an awkward tone to it. The dialogue often felt stilted and then a character would say something that included slang. The world building felt heavy handed and there are occasions of heavy handed info dumping. But, I became very attached to the MC's and cared about what was happening to them. I will definitely read the next one.

Sorry I took your roll, Roger. Since I was late posting, figured I would go ahead and roll.

She has been a hit or miss for me. I loved Gideon, Elijah and even Adam's book, but I didn't like the Nightwalker spin off with the Egyptian body sharing theme.
I got this book you just read from NEtgalley and I am now afraid to read it

I would be very interested in what you think of this one and if you get the same kind of weird feeling from it. I just couldn't put my finger on what was causing me problems.

I LOVED the Nightwalkers, I think I was expecting the World of theNighwalkers to be the same and it wasn't. I had a hard time connecting. Yea, but we did struggle with those books.

And Ezi, I read Lord's Fall before and remember liking it. I'm loving it at the moment! It's so nice to get back to Pia and Dragos.

Honestly, I think Ezi chimed in to cheer us on to finish lol
I was chiming in because I enjoyed the series. Gideon is a top 5 all time favorite PNR book, but Frank's writing is all over the place. She writes like she is 3 different people---like a multiple personality writer.

That's it exactly ~ you were never sure you were going to enjoy what she wrote, lol

Second time around and I loved it as much this time as I did the first. Pia and Dragos are again featured in this story and we begin to see a little more clearly their relationship. And I loved getting such an up close and personal look. Other relationships are explored and other characters introduced as well as resolving the issue surrounding the prophecy that was spoken to Dragos.

I loved the merry gentry books and I just happened to see this in the library and it fit at the right time. merry is a faerie princess born and raised in America and the first of any Sidhe to have babies in a long time. but that put her in danger from her aunt on one side of the family the Queen of the Unseelie Court and her Uncle on the Other side King of the Seelie court. but she has many protectors and it is fun seeing how they have grown and evolved.

Leslie, Kate Daniels series in the reason I read at least 2-3 books before I completely quit a series. I had gotten book 1 on a recommend challenge and I was lost. It felt like I got on a moving train. During book 2, things started to fall into place but it was still like "what's the big deal". Too much world building. I am a romance gal for crying out loud.
But once Curran and her set up that date at the end of book 2---it was on like Donkey Kong. I promise you that your book is the LAST tedious book in that series.
Leslie, make it through book 2, and you will see that this series is enjoyable.

Ezi - I'll forgive you this time, but Leslie might not - lol!

Read book 2 in a series

The majority of the time I find book 1 in a series to be the best. Thank goodness that isn’t the case in this series, because I didn’t care for the first book at all. The storyline in Magic Burns kept me captivated from chapter 1, which isn’t an easy feat. This book takes up back to fictional Atlanta where Kate Daniels is once again fighting demons with her magic. It was fun to hear of the places that Kate visited, such as Buckhead, since I am from Atlanta. However, the world that Ilona Andrews has built is certainly different than my own. Kate, being a kiss ass heroine, is now up to her eyeballs in clues that will help her locate a coven of missing witches. Time is running out for Kate. She must locate the coven of witches and return the young girl that is currently in her care.
Thanks to my reading buddies who insisted that I continue with this series. I will definitely do so, especially if book 3 is the turning point.

I'm just glad you kept reading Debbie. Nice review!

Week 4: Spot 28
Book: Breakable (Contours of the Heart, #2)
Read: 12/11/14
Rating & Review: ★★★★
I resisted reading this book for a really long time because I hate those NA POV sequel books. Thank goodness this one wasn't like that---a regurgitation of book 1.
Instead this book introduced us to young Landon Lucas from the traumatic death of his mom and brought us through his adolescent years until he was scared straight after an arrest. It gave us insight to the mature man we met working as a TA for Jacqueline's college course.
the book alternated between a Past POV and a current POV. Past was the young Landon, (how he was known to his father and family friends) and Present was as Lucas, his alter ego at College and with Jacqueline.
I am not sure which book i enjoyed more but I really liked the background on the man.

Book: The Drawing of the Three | Stephen King (Dark Tower #2)
Finished: 12/12/14

Review:
In this book we meet the Gunslinger Roland again, in his quest to find the Dark Tower. More than twenty years has passed, and in this book we're thrown into parallel wolrds and across time.
I really liked the pace of this book. It changed my impression on the Gunslinger a bit, but I was just happy that this book didn't seem as drawn out as the first one. I was told by my brother that the first one was going to be boring, but that I should stick through the 2nd one before deciding if I wanted to continue. I'm glad that I did.
