7th book in a series

Black Spring (Black Wings, #7) by Christina Henry by Christina Henry
Rating: 4 Stars
Finished: 1/16/15

I’m always a little sad to see a series end, even though I really appreciate when an author sees the end and goes for it instead of dragging the series on and on. The Black Wings series has been a fun read from the start. Always action packed, but the characters were always able to still have a little fun. Every book had laugh out loud moments in them as well, even this final book in the series. Although, I do think Black Spring was a tad bit more serious. There was a lot of stuff packed into this 288 page book.

I’m sad to see Maddy and gang go, but I love the way this ended. It was extremely satisfying and exactly what I was hoping for. I wouldn’t mind seeing this series be resurrected someday or maybe even a spin-off featuring JB or Jude as the protagonist. No matter what happens next for Christina Henry, I’ll definitely check it out.

Finished: 1/17/15
Rating: ★★
Review:

Boring and predictable. It was hard to get into in the beginning but after about 50 pages, I started enjoying it. I was more interested in the relationship between Ruth and the detective than the actual mystery, which was truly lacking. In the end, neither the romance nor the plot actually materialized. Good thing it was short!

Review:

This was an interesting finale to this series. I am hoping there will be more books to come. The tone was different from past books in the series, with no serial killer plot. Taylor is recovering from her injury in a remote castle in Ireland owned by a Scotland Yard detective from a previous novel, whom Taylor has had a consistent crush on. I was a bit confused as to why this arrangement was OK with Taylor or approved by her fiancé but whatever.

Taylor is struggling with PTSD...or is it the pill she is taking for pain which she keeps mixing with alcohol...or is it a ghost...or is it the strange hypnosis she is receiving from a questionable MD? Probably all of the above. But I was racing through this book trying to find out what would happen. I do not feel that the "villain" was developed very well, which prevented me from giving 5 stars.

I'm hoping for Indy too.

I feel bad for that poor Packer. And the Packer that intercepted the ball and then slid instead of running down the wide open field with five minute to go.

Dream Nights with the CEO (Secret Desires, #1) by Kathy Lyons by Kathy Lyons
Rating: 2 Stars
Finished: 1/18/15

This was my second book by Kathy Lyons and my second 2 star review for her. This particular book, once again, had potential. I really enjoyed the set up of the ghost story and was excited to see how that worked into the story. There was something missing with Megan and Wyatt. I never really connected with either of them and I felt like the chemistry was forced. They worked great together (as far as we were told) where the business was concerned, but I didn’t really see them together romantically.

The dreams were a little much. I get that those were the ghost manifesting his power over them, but it just seemed like a stretch. Especially when it caused them to sleepwalk, sleep strip, have sleep sex that eventually lead to an oops pregnancy. And seriously, what woman her age isn’t on the pill or some form of birth control? She’s not a virgin, so why not be on birth control?

Parts of the story were overly long and then parts of it were rushed to the point of whiplash. I didn’t find this as sexy as I expect a Brazen book to be and I just never connected with the characters or the story. I didn’t feel the emotions I usually do in romance novels. I have one more book on my TBR by Kathy Lyons. I’m going to check that out, but either three strikes you’re out or third time’s a charm. Some authors just aren’t for me and I have a sinking feeling Kathy Lyons might not be for me.

Really enjoyed this one...twists and turns all over the place. The police are chasing one suspect throughout the book, and it seems pretty likely that he is the killer and they just don't know where to find him. Of course, I knew there would be a twist but I didn't really see this one coming. Similar to the first book in the series, Kathryn Dance is working with a consultant on the case and starts to develop feelings for him. I was really hoping that he did not turn out to be the killer...poor girl has the worst luck! Deaver could have taken this in a number of directions that would have made it silly, but he didn't. It was awesome.

Oh my goodness. Tara Sivec certainly knows how to start a book. The first few pages really pack a punch. I loved DJ and Phina and the craziness of this book. Tara is amazing and I have not read a book of hers that I haven't liked. From the light and funny to the deep and suspenseful, Tara is a master of making me feel connected to the characters. I'm in deep from the first page. I couldn't put this book down. Now I'm looking forward to the final book in this trilogy. I really loved Dax in this book and I can't wait to see how he and Harley work through their issues.

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman ( Letter I ) ( read Jan 22 )

Review

If I Stay is a journey through life and death in the eyes of a young girl who has lost just about everything. This book is one of the most endearing and wreching story's i've every read. The stoy is about Mia and Told from her point of view and that is why i found it heart breaking and gergeous. The reason this book is such a emmontional crucher is because of the syperb writting skills of Forman. I really loved this book.

Once again I spent hours laughing out loud and swooning over Alice Clayton’s latest in the Cocktail series. I loved every second of this book. Chloe is fantastic and Lucas…holy cow was he delicious. Once again, I love the way this was tied into the original books and into the last one. It was great to see Clark and Viv visit in this book (Chloe is Clark’s cousin). I can’t wait to re-read this book and get my friends to read it. When Chloe congratulates Lucas on something of his, I nearly peed my pants. I so love these characters!

I gave this one 4 stars because there was a twist in here that I absolutely did not see coming. Maybe I missed it bc I was kind of bored but it was impressive. Other than that, the book was just OK...the plot built around a villain from a previous book who escaped from jail which is kind of silly. Lucas Davenport is a little too one dimensional to be a main character in a really long series but maybe Sandford will continue to build his character.

I really loved this book.l felt sorry for Olivia because of what her husband did to her when he was alive and for what he made her go through after he died.this was the third book in the series it could be read as a stand alone. Tge Earl and Olivia were supposed to get married in the past but through miss understandings they couldn't and so after Olivia's husband dies she goes to the Earl for help.
