Yeah, well, my friends "of color" aren't really "readers", that is not indicative of anything...it just happens that they are not, like many of my more pastey friends. The one friend in the real world I tried to get to come on here (Dash did it of his own accord) never posted a pick, put on a couple dozen books and then buggered off. That's no fun, so I gave up. I'd rather just hang with the folks who enjoy the site and interact. I can talk to the others as easily as picking up the phone!

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments please tell me this is a joke....

Alfonso honey, you've never put an actual picture of yourself on here, Maurice doesn't know that you're not one of the "brotherhood" for pete's sake! Your kitty pics don't really suggest "strappin latino 20-something"...

i vote for a cereluen blue and magenta lines

wait a minute?

isn't it the white rasta from vermont jonesin for some color

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments amy, i really dont know what to say to that... why should i say my race?? what that had to do with me reading??? or being on goodreads???

dont get me wrong this dosent offend me but is just idk ya'll white ppl be weird...

message 6: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 16, 2008 08:40PM) (new)

I don't care what race you are, or anyone else for that matter...it seems to matter to Maurice. I think he needs some ethnicity around him or something.

I was just explaining.

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments oh. i see i see now... one piece of advice to KD.... if i ever find out that someone became my friend just to be a little more aware... i'll probably punch that person. and i hate non-fun violence...

message 8: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) my daughter asked me the other day what percentage of people I knew on GR were white, and I suddenly realized that I hadn't really thought about it. I guess I don't spend a lot of time thinking about someone's ethnicity, except in passing. I notice it when I drive around my town, mainly because it used to be (when I was growing up in this area) you almost never saw someone who was black or asian... mostly there were a lot of white people and a lot of latinos. Now I see quite a bigger mixture of ethnicity... a full on spectrum... and it's nice that this town isn't so white bread anymore. But my friend Agnes, who lives here and is Korean-American, says that people in town still stare at her as if they are startled to see an Asian woman. One thing that has been pointed out to me is that if you are white you don't really have to think about race so much, until you go somewhere where you are the minority.

I noticed one of the Groups on Goodreads was predominantly black. I wondered if that was on purpose or if that group formed spontaneously. Do we naturally gravitate towards people with whom we have the most in common? Do non-white people look at our mostly-white groups and think... damn, those people are so white, I'll be over here.

Well, so much for today's honorary 'I hate the Irish' thread.

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jesstrea) Canada is a helluva lot more diverse than it gets credit for Mauricio....Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver are all first-class multicultural cosmopolitan cities...There is a deeply-rooted Jewish community in Montreal, and Canada in general has more languages spoken, more First Nation peoples (as they call them) than the United Swept Clean States of America does....

message 11: by Tim (new)

Tim *chuckles* The funny thing is that im hearing of people from all over the world celebrating St Paddys, while actually here i wouldnt know its any different a day. Ok, i lie, i do get a day of work which i wont complain about. It is also sunny fer once which is a rare treat ;)

I just heard from a friend (English) who is abroad (Bangladesh) that their friend (American) is throwing a St Paddys day party but they cant find any Guinness. :)

I know what ye are saying KD. I also understand where Alfonso is coming from. I recall a class i was in once and we were discussing race in terms of sociology. I (white) was trying to explain to my tutor (Indian) that i didnt see people in terms of colour... that i was to a large extent racially colour blind. I saw this as a positive thing. My tutor didnt and claimed that i SHOULD see someone in terms of their race...

I get what she was saying but i think the main issue is perspective. Having lived in Africa for a number of years and generally been exposed to a lot of multi-culturalism I truly did not see a black or white man (not consciously) but rather a local or someone of such and such a tribe etc.

My tutor however was so conscious of her racial/cultural heritage in a majority white/anglo-saxon area that she saw most things with colour, including people responding or interacting with her.

Charissa (dakinigrl) I could start an "I hate the Irish" thread... but I would have to arrange for one portion of my body to hate the other portion... and I'm already confused enough as it is. Besides... deciding which portion of me is actually Irish would be difficult. I'm pretty sure my freckles are suspect... but then again, that could be the Norwegian. It's hard being a mutt.

message 13: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Um, excuse me, I look damn good in my orange corduroys. Bite me.

message 14: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Grrrrr... There's just no arguing that. Damn you!

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments KD, what I find weird is that ya'll find estrange that there a lot of white folks here... when over 70% of the USA populations consist of white people... the second thing how would you feel if somebody became your friend just because of your nationality or ur religion or what ever... just because of that.. IDK about you but I like people to be my friends for who I am not for what I am (if that makes sense) but that’s just me =)

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments i never said you read the message again =)

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments ermmm you know what lets just let it pass =) i dont think you ment nothing wrong =)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Revolting...it was always my father's favorite, he called it "mother's milk". I buy a bottle for my step dad for Christmas every year, he calls it "nectar of the gods". It activates my gag reflex...

message 23: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) Jack Daniels is for amateurs. Give me a bottle of Laphroaig with a Guiness any day of the week. :::sigh::: I miss drinking....

message 24: by Charissa (new)

The Crimson Fucker (tcf123) | -6 comments I don’t know what Laphroaig is... but I’ll give it a try one day.... in the mean while leave me with ma JD... that stuff gives me the greatest buzz of them all =)

Charissa (dakinigrl) I know... I can only imagine too... it's been so long I'm pretty sure I don't *really* remember.
