Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Strange the Dreamer was good but not as good as her first series (in my opinion anyway). But still good. I love her. Tower of Dawn, also good.

Haha, yes, might be better to skip Unmarriageable for now. We do have a lot of blue covers available after all.

And yes!! I should really finally read Tower of Dawn as well!

As for The Spring Girls by Anna Todd , it's over 50% as there is a lot of "free" space around the petals and leaves, but I'm seeing green. Is that what you were going for?

I was honestly just sharing what I had coming up and wasn't even thinking about that one as any color because it has a lot of almost there but not quite colors.

I also see it as green, so OK for green cover.

I was a little underwhelmed by Daughter of Smoke & Bone though it started out with a lot of promise. I never continued the series.. I am curious about Strange the Dreamer though because the premise sounds promising (again).

Melindam | 8525 comments The reason I lost interest in the Throne of Glass series is that Empire of Storms ended on such a superhigh cliffhanger and Chaol's story -that was supposed to be a novella and that I just quickly wanted to skim through - suddenly blew up to be a 600+pager book.
He was my least favourite character of that series and I'm putting this rather mildly, so I still not relish the prospect, but I should really read this series to the end. So this challenge may prove to be the push. :)

message 557: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Ah but it starts really great! You meet a new place and all! I read the first 20 or so pages a while ago and enjoyed them, even though I was also a little miffed about it being mainly about Chaol.

And yes, he is a bit of a.... *cough*. I liked him until at the end of the first book, not so much anymore.

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I prefer A Court of Thorns and Roses to Throne of Glass. I thought she dragged it out a bit too much.

ACoTaR isn't done yet either... as far as I know there will be another one coming soonish.

But I have that one to catch up with as well. Book #2 blew me away and then I never read the next one haha. Typical...

message 560: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8525 comments I also preferred ACOTAR to Throne of Glass and I'm very curious about Nesta's story. The 2nd book was the best in that series for me. Book 3 ended on a cliffhanger and fell a bit flat. Still enjoyable though.

Thing is, I always care more about SJM's secondary characters than the MCs. Aelin & Feyre are OK-but-MEH, but if it wasn't for the interesting set around them, I just couldn't care about these books AT ALL.

message 561: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8525 comments Sorry, it was book 2 that ended on the CH, not book 3 (am on the phone, so no editing my prev. message)

Eldarwen | 13720 comments Mod
Feyre is a bit of a bitch, but Rhysand <3

Aelin I like, apart from that overly long period of wallowing in Heir of Fire. But as you said, the secondary characters are best. I mean, Manon!! She is absolutely fabulous.

Joy | 281 comments I LOVE LOVE LOVE ACOTAR.
AND STRANGE THE DREAMER.

*ahem* I'm so sad I missed discussions of those books. The sequel to Strange the Dreamer, Muse of Nightmares, came out earlier this year and was an amazing wrap for the duology. Reading those two books felt like unfurling a canvas that just got more complicated and brilliant and beautiful as more details of the world and the characters were revealed.

A Court of Mist and Fury holds a special place in my heart because it took where I thought the series was going and turned it over on its head. When I read the first book, I didn't really register how abusive and terrible Tamlin is... Reading books 2 and 3 helped me to cut a toxic man out of my life once I realized how similar he was to Tamlin.

That is great, Joy! Not that you had a toxic person in your life but that you managed to cut him out of it!!

I was never really fond of Tamlin, except for tentatively in the beginning but that quickly changed. Rhys may not always have been the nicest at first but crap did he have a lot to lose as well, so it was way more understandable.

Of course.... I haven't read A Court of Wings and Ruin yet.... Maybe I'll just push that one way up on my list and read it very, very soon hehe.

You guys are really making me want to read some BDB...

My next one is Lover Avenged, which of course only has the dark fantasy tag on page 2 :-p but it does have a contemporary tag on page 1, so... hmm..

All of these books work for this week's bingo call.... difficult decision!! I think I'll just finish Grave Ransom tomorrow and then I'll see which one I'm in the mood for. Maybe I'll also throw in a quick reread of Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella for a little sin bingo ;-)

message 580: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I think I only read BDB because it was blue LOL. I gave up on it long ago and actually skipped #13 because a) I heard about bad things and b) I started it once and was bored. I'm still mad there was no dark fantasy tag

Yes, that Dark Fantasy tag should be there... :-( I think it's because people focus more on the vamps and romance than on anything else when tags for BDB are concerned.

I started the series because so many people were raving about it. I didn't like the first one all that much though because I'm not a Wrath fan. The setting however.... took me ages to get back to it and then I read Rhage's story in almost a day. So in the meantime they've become an escapist Sunday read for when I need a day of not being in reality haha.
