The Desert Spear

Ooooh!! And and?? Does it hold up after the fantastic firs book??"
Not as good as the first book, but definately still a really good solid book. It took some time getting through the first part of the book about Jardir...but it was worth the slower pace to understand all those shades of grey (what really is good or bad and the greater good, who decides what that is??). Was debating whether to go straight into book 3 or not...

Haven't really looked through the animal list yet except for Dodo and that is apparently an easy one so I'm not even going to consider reading that doorstop of a book. (That is a bit of a relief though actually haha.)
It doesn't really help that I can't easily search through my paperbacks ;-) Or that I've never heard of most these animals on the tricky list. There really are some very odd ones...
What we definitely have so far is the very obvious "Rabbit" from Joy's Watership Down, but that is one of the easy ones. Still, 5 points! And maybe there is a tricky one hidden somewhere in the book as well?

The first one was fairly slow to get into as well what with the world setting, characters etc etc. It was a book that in general took me ages to read because there is a lot on those pages, so I'm sort of prepared for it to take a while hehe. It's good to hear though that the second book holds up to the first one - almost anyway! :-)

Oh, how did you like that one?"
I enjoyed it. If you're interested in politics you'll really like it.

I've had this book forever and never read it. It's not a super long read, but Bonobo is listed as a tricky animal. I know I have some other books about primates, but I need to dig through my nonfiction shelf.
I'm on vacation starting Tuesday, so I'll probably be able to up my reading.
I'm going to try and read Can You Keep a Secret? today but I've got plans this afternoon, so it isn't likely, unless my plans are cut short a little.
I should be able to finish it tomorrow though, which isn't all too far off, and I think my next read might then be Kushiel's Dart. Though I have to see if there's an animal in there, hopefully a tricky one. If not, I'll go with something else.

I would think this counts because the mascot is the actual animal but I wanted opinions from the team.

I don't think it would count because it's referring to a mascot and not it being an actual animal.

Did we meet our target for week 2 in terms of books read?

This is my understanding as well. It is not an actual animal, so it doesn't count.

Well, I spent way more time out of the house than I thought haha, so I will definitely not finish my book in the next two hours. I should however be done with it tomorrow.
Sucks though that I've once again not been able to read my second book for the week.
Good thing we have some power readers on the team who can pick up the slack. THANK YOU!! for that :-))

That's my last book for this week :)

Also, as far as counting animals, I think the school mascot works per this rule: "Find as many animals as you can either on the cover, in the title or in the text of the books you are reading. The reference to the animal within the text of the book needs to be to the actual animal and not an expression such as "lazy like a sloth", for example. The animal can be real or imaginary (e.g. a teddy bear, picture of a moose)."
Wouldn't the ocelot count as imaginary, but actually referring to the actual animal and not a figure of speech?
That is indeed a good question.
I guess it depends on whether the mascot is a teddy bear or a costume as that would make all the difference in this case. Sometimes there's also an actual animal - or so I've seen in movies.
