I am having a hard time getting into this. The pacing is weird. I loved the beginning and expected it to be a fast-paced book. Now we are almost at 30% mark and nothing seems to be really happening.
I think it maybe because it can be read as a separate series without reading TMI, so these chapters were to provide a basic info about this world.
I am curious about Henry's character. He sounds so different from others, so lost. Seems like he much prefers just spending his time surrounded by work alone.
Jessamine's behaviour seemed odd. It's like she doesn't even want to be a Shadowhunter. I would love to know more about her.
I am hoping it will soon get better plotwise, now that we meet Mortmain. (hide spoiler)]

I do like the characters and there is more I want to know but I wouldn’t mind if it sped up a bit. I don’t think I’m gonna like this as much as the mortal instruments books. I don’t really read historical fiction as I dislike the way of talking and usually struggle to connect with the characters. This doesn’t seem too different. (hide spoiler)]

I am actually liking the historical setting in this one. It's done much more loosely than what I've seen in some other books set in the same time period.

Yeah, I was going to point out the same thing about Magnus. He didn't sound like himself at all.
I don't know why, but the characters and the dialogue feel so empty. We don't know what's going on in anyone's minds. Most of them seem fairly one dimensional. And it's like half of what I've read so far is just Tessa roaming aimlessly about the institute.
And then there's that kiss. What was that even!? I don't remember Tessa thinking of him romantically before. It's like they hardly know each other. There wasn't any chemistry at all! (hide spoiler)]

Most people consider this as the author's best series, but this book seemed even trashier than TMI.
I also wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters.
I have no idea why everyone is so obsessed with Will. He was rude for the most part. Jem's character is definitely better, but very one dimensional.
One thing which made it hard to connect was that we never know what's going on in anyone's minds! Even though we followed Tessa for the most part, we are never told why she likes Will, why not Jem. We don't know why Henry or Jessamine are the way they are!
It felt like we were just watching from the outside.
I am hoping the next books will be better. This one mostly felt like a pre-(something,.. I can't think of a word) for the actual plot. (hide spoiler)]

Haha, OMG. I love Will Herondale so much. He is so peculiar. I just love the things that he says. His first meeting with Tessa cracks me up so much.

Waking up in a strange place with a silent brother standing over you must be quite a shock. And even more shocking, being told that you are a warlock. Not to mention the fact that your brother is missing and is more than likely dead.

Everyone seemed quite shocked by Tessa’s “gift”. And Jessamine has a rather unsavory personality thus far.

Wow, Charlotte is pretty badass. I love how she takes control of situations. I loved the admiration in Henry’s words when he was talking to Charlotte after their meeting with Mortmain.

Miranda is an automaton? Creepy. She did seem rather strange when Tessa spoke with her when she was being held prisoner.
