Kelly Brown | 371 comments Hello all! I have finished No One's Home by D.M. Pulley. It is for our Mystery category. I am not touching our spredsheet for fear of messing it up, so if someone can add it for me, I will be so grateful!

I highly recommend No One's Home. It is one of my best reads of this year so far.

I am going to start reading Ask Again, Yes with the feeling that it is going to go towards quest 2. I will see how it all happens!

Jen K | 572 comments Thanks Allegra for the read and notice! If you think you belong, we will take your reads. :)

I put it in for Realistic Fiction which is on the main page genre list for ttfn.

Sadly I don't know of a better way than scanning to see it qualifies. You can browse the genres for an exact phrase.

I made sure you were added to all the right places - sorry about that!

For each book I've read I've gone to the list of shelves and used ctrl+f to search the page for each of the qualifying shelves. I add the book to all categories that have a match. When I finish it I've been mostly picking a random shelf as the category - I figure we can rearrange things once someone finishes a book and there's not a free category left.

message 54: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments I've got about an hour left in both of my books. I should finish up my audiobook while I'm cooking and am hoping I can complete my ebook before the football game is on tonight. We're getting so close!!!

message 55: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Cool trick Cali!

I finally finished my book Sweet Spot: An Ice Cream Binge Across America and will add it for wish list which is sadly all it matches.

Nice work Kelly!! Missed this earlier but got you recorded as complete.

Only 1 more book for this quest!

Wherever you need to fill the hole is fine; I assumed I was missing something in my searches.

Anyway, I've now gone through my entire library pile, and I don't see any books for our 4 remaining shelves. But I do have an audio of Circe that I should be able to get through this week. I can put Catch-22 on hold and push through this first.
If I understand correctly, we need to finish all of the shelves (but each only once) before we can move on. Is that right?

message 58: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sgiffin) | 146 comments Allegra, we only need to completed 15 shelves to move to the next quest. We're one book off right now.

message 59: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments  I guess I forgot to refresh my browser before posting and I missed a ton of comments.

But yes, Allegra we only need one book for 15 shelves to move on. We're just about there!

message 60: by Jen K (last edited Sep 08, 2019 02:26PM) (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Allegra, if you finish Catch-22, we can switch The Overstory to "contemporary" and use yours for "historical fiction".

message 61: by Allegra (new)

Allegra | 158 comments Well, Catch is long, even in audio. I expect I'll finish this week, but we may be on to the new tasks by then anyway. So the real question is do we need someone to read Retellings (or Music/Sept/Inspo). I could probably knock out Circe by Tuesday.
Though I admit I'm not at all sure I understand the nuances here--especially after trying to detangle the rules for the Individual challenge *head spinning, eyes glazing*
I may just go back to watching tennis for now

message 62: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments Just finished Love & Other Carnivorous Plants which qualifies for stand-alone. We did it!! Now I just need to figure out how to turn this in for the next quest.....

message 63: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 283 comments congratulaciones team!! I am still reading my book

message 64: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Woo-hoo! Nice work team!! I wasn't sure either on reporting. We can message the mods?

message 65: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I admit to being a 100% lurker.... While we wait on the mods to make it official. Here is the next Quest that was given to Team Cake:

Quest #2

Sometimes a quest takes you closer to home than you expect. The next step of the journey focuses on your "home" in the ATY group.

Read 10 books that are somehow related to the ATY group. This includes (limited to) the following:

- A books with that starts with a letter found in "AROUND THE YEAR"
- A book that one of the moderators rated as 5 stars
- A book for the 2019 or 2020 challenge
- A book for the Fall/Autumn Challenge
- A book you originally discovered within the group
- A book from ATY's "lesser known" book list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

For any other teams that may or may not be lurking in other team's threads, you're in luck with this quest. But future quests may not be discovered quite so easily ;)

message 66: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments :) good work

message 67: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
I won't bother copying and pasting, but yes that is the next quest.

Just in case you didn't get my strong hint, the third quest will be different for the different teams :)

message 68: by Jen K (last edited Sep 08, 2019 04:03PM) (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I can read The Girl With All the Gifts which Mod Sophie has given 5 stars.

@ Cali, do you want to work your spreadsheet magic? The other team may have one to look at for reference.

message 69: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments can do!

message 70: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments FYI I also think the link is not to the correct list as it goes to "best books" rather than "lesser known".

message 71: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments How do I find what books the moderator's rated 5 stars?

I'm reading Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer for the school/university prompt, so if I get that one done soon it would count as a book for the 2019 challenge.

message 72: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
That's bizarre, considering I didn't even go to that list. Here it is again.

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

message 73: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Thanks Laura!

message 74: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments @ Errlee, I'm not sure I did found the books in the easiest way but here are the steps I used:

Click on Mod's name, like Laura in message 72.
Up top, click on "more" (next to "add friend") and then choose "compare books" from the drop down.

You can see the books in common then and see her rating for any books you have shelved as "to read".

Then I went to click on the number of books we don't have in common up top again which gave the list of books she has read. Then I clicked on rating to get all her 5 stars on top of the list and found one that is sitting on my nightstand.

message 75: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments Errlee, I'm the only mod who has read Missoula, and I rated it 4 stars.

You can also go to any mod's profile, click in their Read list, and support the books by their rating to see all 5 star reads.

message 76: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sgiffin) | 146 comments Hi all. I just finished Vermilion and, wow, I. Loved. It.

I took the liberty of adding the main prompts to the Quest 2 section of the spreadsheet. I guess we can add additional prompts in as repeats when someone finished another book that fits them. Or if one of our leaders or someone has a better idea about how to track it... great

Anyway, Vermilion happens to fit well for 2020's 'Set in a rural or sparsely populated area' since most of the book takes place in the mountains above Estes Park, CO in the 1870s.

Thanks Samantha! Definitely adding book to my TBR.

message 78: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (sgiffin) | 146 comments Also, I guess I can mention my plans for next read(s):

I can probably finish one more book tonight: Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening which fits for my 2019 Plan: NPR Best Books List

I will then pick up one of the following:
a. Return to the Dark House for a book that starts with a letter in AROUND THE YEAR - R
b. The Clockmaker's Daughter for either a Mod 5 Star (Bryony) or my 2019 Plan (I think - won't know for sure 'til I read it): Multi-Generational Saga
c. Gods of Jade and Shadow for my 2019 Plan: Includes a Journey

message 79: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I'm still working my way through The Thorn Birds. I ended up having to drive my daughter around today. Tomorrow I'm working a half day and will be doing a lot of waiting around in doctor's offices so I should get some more reading done tomorrow. This book has been taking me awhile but I've been enjoying it. I'm not sure where it would fit in with our new list.

message 80: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3287 comments I read 205 pages today to finish off Quiver. Too late for me to look into what it counts towards right now, but I can check tomorrow.

message 81: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments sorry - feel asleep watching football last night. I'll put together a quest 2 sheet and get everything organized in the next few hours.

I also just finished a book I'm not sure will fit any prompt this quest but I think I read that books not used for one quest can be used for another. I'll pick two new books that fit these prompts once I'm at a computer.

message 82: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments Today I should be finishing The Dinner List which I'm reading for the Fall/Autumn reading challenge.

message 83: by Errlee (new)

Thanks Katie - Missoula would fit for the reading for the challenge prompt. But I wanted to look at the 5 star reads to see if there was anything on my TBR pile that would fit! Thanks for the tips on how to look them up.

message 84: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments I finished Sabrina by Nick Drnaso this morning - it's both a book for the 2019 challenge (written in a non-traditional format) and the Fall challenge (shortlisted for the Booker). Can someone with better skills than me slot it into the spreadsheet?

Thanks!

message 85: by Karissa (new)

I put it into the spreadsheet under the Fall Challenge. I'm glad you were able to finish a book for the fall challenge because I just realized I left my headphones at home so I won't be able to finish listening to mine.

message 86: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments Made some spreadsheet updates (listed below). I finished Me Talk Pretty One Day this morning but it may not be able to fit. I'll post my next books once I pick them.

Spreadsheet Updates
- Added "Quest 2 Planning" tab to put all the books we're working on and what categories they fit
- Added "Unused Books" tab to add any books that were finished but haven't been used for a quest.
- I rearranged and recolored a few things for viewing ease

message 87: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Hi Team Brownie, it's great to see so many updates this morning! We are doing great and I hope we are enjoying our reads.

Thanks Cali for the updated spreadsheet! It's very helpful. Hope your team won before you fell asleep!

message 88: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Just a note that we can repeat prompts in Quest 2 and we don't need to cover all of them- just 10 books that qualify in any of the specified ways.

message 89: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments Awesome job while I was away yesterday! I'm about halfway through You which can work for 5 star by a mod or starts with a letter in Around the Year.

message 90: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments Jen K wrote: "Just a note that we can repeat prompts in Quest 2 and we don't need to cover all of them- just 10 books that qualify in any of the specified ways."

I totally missed that! I guess the book I finished this morning will count then. Yippee!

Well I picked my next 2 books before I read this so they fit some of the other categories. I should have Rabbit Cake and Human Acts finished tonight or tomorrow morning.

message 91: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished You and updated it on the spreadsheet.

message 92: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Great work Brittany! I hope it was a 5 star for you as well.

Quest 2 has 4 books down and 6 to go. Let's read Team Brownie!

message 93: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I'm going to start El Deafo. It's a graphic novel so I'll probably be able to finish it tonight.

message 94: by C (new)

C (tctcat) | 79 comments I didn't get as much reading done today as I hoped so I probably won't finish my 2 books until tomorrow afternoon.

Everyone is doing so great!

message 95: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments I finished The God of Small Things and used it to fill the book that starts with ATY. I did the strikethrough thing to indicate it’s finished. Is that right?

message 96: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 283 comments I finished The Fourth Protocol and I put it into the spreadsheet under a book for the 2019 challenger prompt "A book with a number in the title or on the cover".

Also I put the book indicated for Chinook in the Completed sheet

I'm going to start Matilda.

message 97: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 283 comments Rachel wrote: "I read 205 pages today to finish off Quiver. Too late for me to look into what it counts towards right now, but I can check tomorrow."

Rachel, I put your book on the "unused book" sheet, until you indicate whether it serves on one of the current tasks or for the next quest

message 98: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 639 comments Thanks Vanessa! Somehow I missed that!

message 99: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Great reading everyone and thanks to Vanessa for organizing the spreadsheet!

Rachel's book could work for the 2020 prompt of rural setting or the ATY Fall Challenge prompt of published after 1999.

I'm far from finishing so I will keep reading. :) Only 4 more books until the next Quest!

message 100: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished El Deafo and am going to slot it for starts with a letter found in around the world.
