Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1355 comments At first it was baffling but now I know who dunn it.
Whodunnit? Utterly Baffling Detective Stories

message 3: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Debra, are you finished the book or just reserving that spot for when you are done?

Did you enjoy your read, Anna? It couldn't have been the butler who did it!

message 4: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments 3 was indeed the number as I read Death by Diamonds in 3 sittings. I was due for a cozy read.

message 5: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Three is a good number!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Janice wrote: "Debra, are you finished the book or just reserving that spot for when you are done?"

Just reserving the spot, Janice. Is that ok? I wanted someplace to put Madame Tutti-Fruiti's prediction, so I wouldn't have to search for it in the original thread again. Sorry for the confusion.

message 7: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments That's fine Debra. My glorious gifts led me to believe that was your intention. I was just seeking validation. Hehehehe!

message 8: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Yes, oh wise one!

message 9: by Gail (new)

Gail (appleshoelace) | 779 comments I keep reading MTF as 'male to female' and thinking this is a thread about gender reassignment! :-)

I haven't read my predicted books yet - I keep forgetting the order I'm supposed to read them in. I need to write it down.

message 10: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments Just one whiff and I am transported to another place, a memory, a feeling.
What would I do without my nose?
I've finished The Perfume Collector and I'm now rethinking my perfume choices. Something subtle, fresh with earthy undertones and a bit of naughty sounds about right.
Thank you for the good choice, Madame Tutti Fruiti.

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The nose knows!

message 12: by Anna (new)

Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1355 comments Janice wrote: Did you enjoy your read, Anna? It couldn't have been the butler who did it!"

Yes, I did. Moreover thanks to that book, I discovered Nonsense Novels which was 5* read and free at Gutenberg.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Kim - I bid you welcome and wish you well. Your spirits gave me quite a spell. This much, I can tell...

Nico ran through the Pineslooking for Jenny Pox. His Fate is Golden's Quest.

I met with Nico on October Three
And this I must decree
Madame is wise in what she sees
Nico was great, I say yippee!

I left Wayward Pines last night
This town gave quite a fright
Madame picked another great book
I think others should also take a look

Jenny Pox was found as predicted
MTF is truly gifted
But I think I may be infected
Because this book was better than expected

Books Read - MTF - October, 2014
1. Nico - Oct. 3, 2014 - ★★★★★
2. Pines - Oct. 8, 2014 - ★★★★★
3. Jenny Pox - Oct. 14, 2014 - ★★★★☆

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments It's icing on the cake from here on, Kim. Enjoy Pines!

message 15: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Finished Reamde . have mixed feelings on it. Maybe if I feel up to writi g a review I'll be back to link it. Parts of the book angered me to where if I write a review now it would be nasty enough for a 1 star but I plan on going 3-3.5 on it. If he'd kept it a cyber thriller without going off on the whole terrorist thing it would have been a 5.

message 16: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Hmm... I almost picked that book up. Now I'm glad I didn't.

message 17: by Lisa (last edited Oct 08, 2014 11:53AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I now know what The Lie The Lie by Helen Dunmore is and it's a pretty moving one.

This book, set mainly in the year 1920 (with some flashbacks to the past), is about a traumatised young man struggling to come to terms with his experiences as a soldier in World War One. It's a moving, thought provoking exploration of the harsh reality of life in the trenches and the personal loss and trauma associated with it. It was a bit slow at times and I didn't always feel fully engaged with either the story or the characters but it provided an interesting insight into life amidst the fighting as well as the psychological struggles faced by many soldiers when they returned home. I gave it 4 stars.

Thanks for the pick Madame Tutti Fruiti!

Of that I have no doubt. Your powers are most impressive Madame ;)

Poongothai (poongsa) | 483 comments Madame Tutti Fruiti,
As you predicted, the magnet pulled me to the ducks, dogs, cats and lambs in Animal Magnetism (Animal Magnetism, #1) by Jill Shalvis and I'm in a haze of animal sounds now
It was a light and fun romance.
Enjoyed and will be continuing the series.

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The call of the wild is leading you on in the series. Enjoy!

message 23: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2098 comments A dark October evening, some candles lit for light,
I sat and read a book about the Children of the Night: Stories of Ghosts, Vampires, Werewolves, and Lost Children.

message 24: by Lori (new)

Lori (glitzyrebel) | 444 comments Tonight, I put aside my turban and bangles and donned a silk gown with lots of bling. I was picked up at my door by a chauffeured limonsine. Inside was the most handsome man. He whisked me off to the airport and his waiting lear jet. If you believe that I'll tell you some more Big Little Lies.

Little lies can turn into a big problem THAT MAKE A 5 STAR--I LOVED IT READ!!! Thanks, Janice!! You are 2 for 2 in selecting a 5 star read for me. I look forward to the next appearance of your crystal ball.

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Romantic evenings for Camilla & Lori? Don't let a little candlelight or limonsines fool you!

Meanwhile, Madame Tutti Fruiti finished 20th Century Ghosts which had enough open-ended stories to test her deductive abilities to the max.

message 26: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1786 comments I finished The Thousand Names. Not a great book for me though a future series by the author might be worth trying. He's not good enough yet but has potential to turn out a really good fantasy series with a little practice.

message 27: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizvegas) | 504 comments I finished A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. I loved the author's writing style; beautifully rich language, and was very surprised that this was his first novel. I look forward to reading more by him, but I heard that it took him years to write this one, and he rewrote it completely four times. So it'll probably be awhile before we get more books from him.
The story is a poignant tale of war-torn Chechnya. I found it overwhelmingly sad...yet beautifully told. 4 stars.

message 28: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I finished At the Duke's Wedding. I really enjoyed it, too.

message 29: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Dawn & Liz, it looks like you are both developing your own talents for looking into the future!

Rebecca, I'm glad you had a great dance around the ball room floor and didn't lose your glass slipper.

message 30: by Kerri (new)

Kerri I finished reading The Kitchen House, and I have to say I was very disappointed. So many people told me how much they loved this book, for me it was just ok.

message 31: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Kerri wrote: "I finished reading The Kitchen House, and I have to say I was very disappointed. So many people told me how much they loved this book, for me it was just ok."

It was a bit half baked for me as well.

message 32: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Bilney | 288 comments I finished reading The Dirty Girls Book Club. I enjoyed it, it was a great light read. One of those books where you know the ending straight off, but there is enough of a story in-between to keep you reading.

message 33: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments See, we all have talents to see into the future! Yours is developing nicely, Amanda.

message 34: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Post #14 updated to reflect book 3 of 5 completed for Madame Tutti Fruiti. Two five star books and a 4.5 star read. Will the streak of really good books continue for my final two reads? Only the fates and MTF know... And maybe Amanda since Janice, I mean Madame Tutti Fruiti, believes she has the sight as well! :-)

message 35: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments May books 4 and 5 be stellar as well, Kim. :)

message 36: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I finished The Wolfe Widow. I enjoyed it. It is a nice homage to Rex Stout, the creator of the Nero Wolfe books. It turns out to be the third book in a series, and it might have been better if I had read the first two books before this one, but I like Nero Wolfe much more than Dorothy Sayers, and I don't know Agatha Christi's whole body of work as well as I do Rex Stout's. Thank you Madame Tutti Fruiti for the very entertaining choice.

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments It is my aim to entertain. :)

message 38: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Dear Madam TF,

I am beside myself with awe! I have not quite finished my chosen book, but the numbers DID NOT lie. How could I not love a story in which a Doctor has given as a prescription: "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes. Take ten pages, twice a day, till end of course."

Devoted to your revelations,
Cherie

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments These are what the spirit world calls "connections". Every time we experience one, we resonate at a higher vibration. :)

message 40: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished my book today. The Thirteenth Tale was all I could have hoped for! The spirits were good to me. :)

message 41: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The spirits are indeed good to you Cherie. They would never steer you in the wrong direction.

We Are Called to Rise

Just started reading Dark Places

We are called to Rise was a great read

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Can someone please explain to me how the ... hell it got to the 17 Oct, toppler in just over 24 hours and I haven't looked even sideways at my Frutti pick? Madame, I need your guidance as I am in a state of panic!

P.S. How's November's challenge looking ;)

message 44: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes I'm in the same boat Rusalka! Not sure when I'll fit my book in. Fingers crossed I'll finish my toppler books, roll again and this one will fit the bill!

Camilla | 2098 comments Rusalka wrote: "P.S. How's November's challenge looking ;)"

Glad you asked, I was just wondering the same, as I'm tentatively already planning my November reads.

Gar (dublin_reader) | 12 comments This month just disappearing, hard to fitting the reading in

LOL Sarah, I have five (or at the moment only 3.5) books to read from Madame TF, and absolutely none of them is suitable for the three books I've rolled for the Toppler! But I think this is a good excuse to read more books, so not actually unhappy about it.

LOL Sarah, I have five ..."

So how many books you read in a wekk Camilla

message 49: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I've read 3 out of 5 MTF reads and am reading my fourth as I'm trying to get most of them read before the toppler. I'll leave the final MTF read for the end of October.

message 50: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Same for me! I started a chunkster at the very end of September and hoped I would have finished it no later than 5 days before the toppler, so I could read the MTF book before the toppler and the group read after. That plan has failed, and I think I'm going to have to fit both books in for after the toppler. Ohoh..
