Yep, we're neighbors, although it would take me over 30 minutes to get to your part of town :) I live in West Phoenix, almost into Glendale.

message 105: by Library (new)

Library Queen | 320 comments Melanie, is the rounding up for everything, or just certain tasks? like, if a book is 372 pages, does it count for 3 or 4 points?

message 106: by Library (new)

Library Queen | 320 comments Read a book: first in its series, with 100-199 pages, that is a debut novel, published in Jan. or Feb., or with "1(one)" in the title

Also, do you get a point for everyone one of these you match, or just one overall for the task?

Like, if a book is a debut novel and the first in a series and has a 1 in the title, is that 3 points or 1? I was reading it one way, and my teammates are reading it a different way, so i wanted to be sure.

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Message 1 says:
"(1) point per task and (1) point per 100 pages"

So it's just multiple options to choose from for the tasks. You can pick any or all but you get one point, then add in the page points.

I’m also curious about the rounding-up question.

Rounding up for everything. It would be worth 4 points.

That is correct. Thanks Hannah for answering! It is difficult on my tablet, lol. ;)

I meant rounding to the nearest hundred. Not rounding up for everything. If a book is 245, it counts for 2 page points. 267 would count for 3.

I think it makes it a bit more fair for those books that are 399 pages. Lol

message 114: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Yes, that's what I thought you meant. I just thought the rounding was only for the same-page tasks you had specifically stated rounding was used for, not for all the tasks in the whole game. Am I now understanding correctly that it's rounding for all the tasks in the whole game and not just those you had previously (in the task assignments) mentioned it for?

It's rounding for the page points earned and the tasks that specifically mention it. Tasks 1-6 give a range for page count, so no rounding for those specific tasks as that wouldn't really work.

message 116: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments If we're choosing a different task to do for #1-6, wouldn't the rounding still qualify? Or do each of the books in those categories have to fit into the page number qualifications even if we chose, say, the series # to do instead?

I think I made this more confusing than it needed to be. I'll try to explain it better.

Let's say task number one. You read a book and want to use it for the option "with 100-199 pages". The book you read is 188 pages. You will get 1 point for finishing the task and 2 points for the pages read (rounding it to 200 pages). You can't use that book (that is 188 pages) for task number two's option "with 200-299 pages" because the rounding of pages is only for page points with those tasks. You obviously don't have to choose the page count option to finish any of those tasks, but if you want to the rounding doesn't apply to that task option.

I hope that is a little more clear. :/

message 118: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Okay, so don't round to fit the tasks, but do round to get the page points.

So, if I chose a book for a series number 1 for task one and the pages were 352, that would still work even though it isn't 100-199 pages, and it would also round to 4 page points plus the task point?

I think I'm understanding more now. :)

Exactly! That book would work because it fits the first in series and you would get 4 page points + the task point, so 5 points total. :D

By the way, if anyone has page count issues with book records here, give a shout on this thread and I’ll take a look. I’m a librarian and happy to add page numbers.

message 126: by Keri E. (new)

Keri E. (kewaites) | 56 comments Melanie, I had a few questions.

1. Is it okay if a book hasn't been published in the States? A book I was interested in reading has been released in the UK, but won't be published until 2020 here.

2. For the full house, do the vowels/consonants need to be different? For example, would the name Mamta count.

message 127: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Keri, I think as long as the book you're reading is on Goodreads, it should be fine, and if you need help getting one on here (if it isn't already), maybe Hannah may help, being a GR librarian.

As for the vowels/consonants, Mamta should work. Nothing was said of they have to be different, just that there should be two/three of each, whichever way you go with it.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Melanie I've got a couple of questions.

For Full House, does the author's name have to contain 5 letters (Karen) or can it contain 3/2 but be like (Harris) where there are 3 consonants and 2 vowels in the name but more than 5 letters?

It has to be 5. So Susan, Karen, Ronie, etc.

That is true. Once the first round is complete, that opens up the second round, etc.
