Yeah, I'm with Katie. I didn't like either Mystery Man or Law Man because of the protags. I did like Wild Man and Motorcycle Man.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Dee - Fifteen Shades of Gay. This was so much better than I expected! It didn't follow the normal trail for this sort of storyline, and both MCs were living their own lives as well as falling in love. 4.5 stars.

Diane and Cariann from the previous round - Tangled. I know I am in the extreme minority, but I didn't really enjoy this book :( I didn't find it funny and I didn't like Drew. At. All. Having said that, the narration was superb! 2 stars.

Donna - Love You Like a Romance Novel. I didn't like this as much as I had hoped, but then, I was expecting to LOVE it ;) I did still really enjoy it... It was only loosely connected to The Missing Butterfly and parts were probably more complex than they needed to be. But still, 4 stars.

LIZZ - Some Girls Bite. The action was fairly subdued for an urban fantasy novel (I'm comparing to Kate Daniels and Gin Blanco here), but I still enjoyed it. 3 stars.

Poongothai - The Rosie Project. Absolutely delicious! I loved the plot, the humour and the quirky characters :) 5 stars.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Laurla - Blood Moon. Call me stupid, but I hadn't realised that this would be PNR! No mention in the blurb, but I guess the title should have alerted me ;) Anyway, sweet story with some fun characters. 3 stars.

LIZZ - Cost of Repairs. I enjoyed this book but it wasn't a compulsive page-turner for me. I'll continue the series :) 3 stars.

I had a hard time with Cabe too. In fact I've only read three KA books, Mystery Man, Knight and Lee. I had a hard time with all three. The male protags were too dominant and controlling for my tastes. I used to cry out of frustration when I was reading Knight and Cabe was hardly bearable. Lee was the only protagonist I could stand even for a few minutes. He was very controlling, but still a bit better than the other two guys.

message 305: by Susan A (new)

Susan A | 2160 comments Becky Pivot and Slip ★★★ This was a sweet story, but I expected more. I'm really irritated with whomever listed the book info because this book was NOT worth the price $6.99. I was hesitant to put this on my TBR when I thought it was 174 pages. It was MUCH shorter. More like 90 pages, and 20 of that was previews for other books. I feel cheated having spent 6.99 for it.

Diana The Queen's Librarian ★★★

Melissa Knightly Love ★★★★★ I loved this! Not many mm books in this setting. I am a fan of Fyn Alexander's work

Shelby Wild Magic ★★★ This was book 4 in the Triad series. I think the author should have stopped at 3. This wasn't bad, it just felt very rushed. There was enough plot here for a full novel and yet it was jammed into 90 pages. Very frustrating. Nonetheless, I'm happy to have finished the series.

Jane PS The Start of a Beautiful Friendship ★★★★ I had forgotten how much I loved the Spy vs Spook series. Although this is a prequel, I think it is best read after at least book 1. Mark Vincent is a great character.

Bonus picks:

Arati With This Ring, I Thee...Oh, Sh*t! ★★★★ Nothing about this book should have worked, yet I really enjoyed it. There is cheating and very stereotypical characters and the farce-like tale was a lot of fun.

Karla Rebirth ★★★★ Jordan Castillo Price writes great characters and great stories. I've liked everything of hers I've read, even when the subject matter was something I am generally not interested in.

Grp 3: 5/15
bonus picks: 5/21

message 306: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2657 comments @Tina: Relentless was ★★★. It was enjoyable and kind of short. I already got book 2 to continue this series. thanks.

@Susan A: I was lucky enough to get Hell & High Water on audio. I gave it ★★★★ and I have to tell you, Dex was hilarious. I am impatiently waiting for book 2 to arrive at audible.

@Zara: Black Lies was a huge disapointment for me. I gave it ★★½. I thought the author was trying to hard to be provocative with the twist which wasn't really that big of a deal to me. anyway, I am glad you got me to read it so I could see what the fuss was about.

@~Melissa~: Façade was a ★★★★ read. Great series and definitely continuing this one.

@Aarati: One Dance with a Duke was a ★★★½. Tessa Dare doesn't quite get my motor running like Julie Garwood, but it wasn't bad at all. I could have done without a lot of the horse talk though.

@Karla: Origin was ★★★½. I can't wait for the final book. glad about Blake.

THANK YOU FOR THE RECOMMENDATIONS

message 307: by Tabs (new)

Tabs Zara - The Tycoon's Bride - ★★½ This wasn't terrible but the characters getting together made no sense without the big twist I saw coming a mile away. Also, it lost points for random unncessary crazy ex drama thrown in at the last minute.

Sassafrass - The Viper - ★★★ I liked but I wanted the hero to have more confidence in himself and not run away so much.

Anita - All I Have - ★★★½ Totally adorable enemies to lovers romance  between two farmers. Features farmers market warfare, naked man chest, and battle of the sexes. I will definitely read more from this author.

Ezinwanyi - Sabine - ★★★ Nice paranormal fantasy short where the heroine is cursed to have no one remember her after they touch her. Hero has to remember her even when he can't. I binged this trilogy in a day and this was the strongest one.

MountainKat - 1001 Dark Nights: Roped In - ★★★★★ I knew I was going to love this so I saved it for a "break glass in case of emergency" kinda day and it did not disapoint. I love James' cowboy/cowgirl romances so much and I love that she's been writing more internal intimate romances lately in this series.

message 309: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Nov 14, 2014 06:25PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments I managed to get through several books in the last week or so:

beppy - Laid Bare - ★★★ A little disappointed in this one, but possibly more because I had such high expectations than because the book wasn't good.

Zara - Obsession - ★★★ For the most part I'm not a big sci-fi fan, but not bad.

Kathy - Immortal - ★★★★ Nice end to the series, with hints of either a new series to come or a future direction for the BDB series.

Aarati - After the Kiss - ★★★★ Really fun, and a new author to me...I'm looking forward to continuing the series!

Anita - Screwdrivered ★★★ Not as good as the first two books in the series, but still entertaining.

Thanks for the picks, I enjoyed them all, even if a couple didn't quite live up to my expectations!

6 read of 35 - I need to step it up or I won't finish!

Joyce - Finished Mischief in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law, #2) by Jana Deleon . It was a cute little mystery with a snarky ghost. I really enjoyed it and gave it four stars.

Dee - Starting Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen . I've wanted to check this author out for awhile and have heard great things!

message 312: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Oct 18, 2014 02:55PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Larissa - Obsession. Just finished this. I enjoyed all the action - lots of Luxen, human and Arum battles; but I wasn't so convinced on the main relationship. Perhaps it was too instaneous and convenient? Anyway, it was great to read it as part of the group buddy read this month, so thanks :) 3 stars.

Just started Red Dirt Heart (Becky) - it'll be interesting to see what I think since I've visited a number of these huge stations (where the land size if measured in square kilometres) over the years... :)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments Group 3 - Dee

Finished Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and it was amazing! I loved the characters and the author did a great job of following up on all the subplots without making it too "busy." I really like Magical Realism and don't find many books in that genre that really click. This was a five star read for me. I couldn't put it down. : )

Starting one of my bonus reads next: Windfall (Weather Warden, #4) by Rachel Caine

Bonus- Tabs
Echoes of Scotland Street (On Dublin Street, #5) by Samantha Young was amazing, I love this series so much and I love how Samantha Young incorporates characters from past books. Can't wait for the next one.

Larissa - Rescue Me ✰✰✰✰✰ First read by this author and I absolutely loved it! I liked the fast pace and the suspense. Devon's mom was a real hag. Grrr! Loved the ending though. I'll be bumping the series on my TBR.

Bonus pick: Ramneek - Windfall ✰✰✰✰ It's a great series and this book was pretty angsty. The cliffhanger endings are wearing me down a little, but I'm hoping the heroine gets a HEA eventually. I want to jump right into the net book, but I have to finish a few others first. Ack! : )

Donna - Finally after months of waiting, I'm starting To Tame A Highland Warrior. Yay!

The books have been fantastic this month! Thanks for the picks!

I have some updates.

✔ dana - Portal | Imogen Rose 10/21/14 ★ - I really didn't like this one. I thought it had a lot of potential from the summary of the book, but the characters irked me, and the ending was so sudden with no conclusion at all. I know it was probably just to get us to get the next book, but I won't be reading on.

✔ karenh - Glory in Death | J.D. Robb 10/20/14 ★★★★★ I love this series so far, Eve and Roarke are amazing, and I love the pace of these mysteries. Although I had my thoughts about the killer early on I didn't mind.

✔ karla - Pride and Prejudice | Jane Austen 10/16/14 ★★★ I was hoping so much that I would love this book. I have postponed it for so long because I haven't really been good with classics before. I had some difficulties with the old way of writing (I even have difficulties understanding my own old language (which is Danish)), so I fell out of the story a couple of times. Maybe if I read it a couple of times I'll come to like it as much as everyone seem, but at the moment I can't give it more than 3 stars.

Ty | 1943 comments slowww month for me. but here's my progress so far.

1. Cage (Corps Security, #2) by Harper Sloan - cute story but a bit toooo dramatic. author tries super hard to be KA, I believe. still enjoyable. Thanks, Laurla!

2. Brothers In Arms (Recon Diaries, #1) by Kendall McKenna - super short and WAY too much acronym use. thinking the author overdid the military speak without sufficient or with too-awkward explanations. still glad to have it off my tbr! :) thanks, Elise!

3. Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher - lurrrve this. LURVE. LURVE. Harry, Harry, Harry. Oh, Harry. sigh. sniff. This was my first 5* for Harry Dresden. Yep, first after 12 books. Thanks, Becky!

4. Mortal Danger (World of the Lupi, #2) by Eileen Wilks - was super happy to find the audiobook to this and really enjoyed the "graphic audio" aspect of it.... until I finished...and found out there were CHUNKS of writing missing. So. Not. Happy. still, the dramatization made for fine listening during long-distance travel. The story was much more enjoyable and cohesive than the previous novel, though the missing parts were a bit frustrating. Thanks, Leslie! (and Vi!!)

Preethi~~I read All Roar and No Bite it was an enjoyable read with great humor, though at times it did drag. I'll definitely continue with the series.

Ramneek~~ I read A Touch of Greek this was a good read, I loved the Greek mythology she included in the series!

Vi~~Love Under Siege~~This story wasn't as good as the first one in the series, but I'm going to continue with it.

Jane~~Enlightened~~I loved this story. It was a great conclusion to the series!

Thanks for all the picks!

Donna - I finished To Tame A Highland Warrior and really enjoyed it. The first book dragged a bit in the middle with too much action between the sheets, but this installment was nicely balanced. I liked the tension between the couple and that the author didn't fall on the "BIG MISUNDERSTANDING" ploy as the big bad in the story. It was a fun read.

Lily - I'm starting Magic Strikes. I really liked the last book in this series and it's been awhile since I've re-visited KD's world. I'm looking forward to it.

I think the order to read this series should be

#1 Houseboat on the Nile first definitely
#2 Not My Spook!
then it doesn't matter -- either #.5 The Start of a Beautiful Friendship or #3 Forever

#1Pick Up the Pieces and #2 Foolish Me need to be read after #3 Forever

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Lily Strong Enough - This is solid sweetness - start to finish. Not a lot of angst - just enough to keep it interesting. I liked how true the characters were to themselves, each other and those around them. It really worked. 4 stars.

Becky Red Dirt Heart - I'll definitely look to continue this series. It was great to read a book set on a cattle property, already knowing how they are run as we run our own (much smaller) property. My biggest negative was that some of Charlie's thoughts (Australian MC) were expressed more as an American, and this jarred as I read them. 4 stars.

Aarati - Wild Irish Christmas by Mari Carr - so sweet!

Preethi - Perfection by R.L. Mathewson - Loved the humor, it was a fun book!

Tabs - Coming Undone by Lauren Dane - Loved this! It completely worked for me!

Glad you liked it, MountainKat!

I've finished two more books and one bonus pick.

Confronting the Demon(Bonus)- ★★★ was an enjoyable short fantasy. The story is tightly packed with no unnecessary details, which I both liked and did not like. The book could have done with some more world building, though. Additional world development could have made it into a much more interesting book. Thanks Katie.

Married By Morning -★★★★ I enjoyed this one. I was so looking forward to this book, and I did like it a lot. Leo and Catherine Marks were an interesting combination! But there was a very trivial thing in this book that bothered me a lot. Marks' glasses kept falling down often. Really? I've been wearing glasses for a long time, and it has never once fallen down. That it kept falling down for her bothered me to no end. Silly reason, huh? Anyway, than you so much for picking this Tabs(and Mountain Kat, Ezi and Sassafrass too!)

Serpent's Kiss - ★★★★★. This book was awesome! I actually was a bit doubtful when I started to read this book, as I read the first two books long before, and had completely forgotten the story and the MCs were not really my favourite people then. But, I loved this book a lot. Especially, since it made me think a lot about the physics and time-looping concepts involved here. Thank you MountainKat! I'm looking forward to the next book!

☘KathyD☘ | 4832 comments with the month coming to a close, i figured i'd post my reading list so far...so glad i have all of november to finish off the great picks i have!!!

When Day Breaks (KGI, #9) by Maya Banks When Day Breaks Karla — **** 10/19

I’ve been waiting to read this and avoiding it for a while…I looked forward to Swanny’s story for so long, but avoided it because it means I have to wait for the next KGI installment! Ugg…the problems of loving a series so much! The only reason I couldn’t give this book five stars was because there was a little too much repetition…retelling other plot points over and over, repeating issues…it just got kind of old. But the story of Swanny and Eden was very sweet and I’m glad I finally read it! Now I just have to wait for the next book…ho, hum… :)

Effortless (Thoughtless, #2) by S.C. Stephens Effortless Karen — **** 10/23

I was much happier with this book than its predecessor. The characters have grown, but there are still lingering uncertainties as Kellan and Keira are testing time and again. I really enjoyed getting to see more of the band and learn a bit more about each one. Not a ton of information, but enough so you can get a better sense of the dynamic of the four men.

Beautiful Oblivion (Beautiful, #3) by Jamie McGuire Beautiful Oblivion Aarati — **** 10/14

One of the parts of the Maddox brothers’ stories that I enjoy so much is how they overlap/repeat. Yes, I know that sounds ridiculous, but the first two books each gave the couples point of view. This story centered around a different Maddox brother, but we still got to see a little of Travis and Abby. I enjoyed seeing the relationship unfold for Trent and Cami. We got to see a sliver of it in Travis/Abby story. They are just as dysfunctional as Travis and Abby, but still unique enough to be interesting! I saw a review with a spoiler that caught me off guard, but I was happy to see the spoiler was wrong. I’m hoping to read this story from Trent’s side and then I’m looking forward to the next Maddox brother’s story!

Consensual (Club Imperial, #1) by Katherine Rhodes Consensual Dana — ***** 10/5

This book was not what I expected. But I very much enjoyed the power exchange with a woman as the dominant. The story had a good pace and I'm eager to see where the story goes from here!

Bared (Club Sin, #2) by Stacey Kennedy Bared Tina — ***** 10/6

I’ve noticed, a lot of “club-“type stories focus on pairings that have no history. This story follows a D/s relationship that has been established for more than two years. It played out well and was good to see how both characters figured out the obstacles they faced so they would be better for each other.

Ruined (Ethan Frost, #1) by Tracy Wolff Ruined Beppy (extra pick for missing group member) — ***** 10/17

This book surprised me. I’m not sure what I expected, but I was surprised at how the story unfolded. It was a good story with some interesting twists and turns. I was so into the story, I had to read the next book in the series!

LOVED Hunter. *sigh* Definitely my kind of Alpha. Lacey pissed my off quite a few times in this book because of what she "assumed" about Hunter, and I'm so glad that he was able to blow her mind and misconceptions time and again. I truly enjoyed this story and devoured it in one sitting. I definitely think it will be one I reach for again when I'm in a certain kind of "mood". ;) Fair warning though: it may not be a good idea to do what I did which was read this when my DH was across the country and I had no access to him. picked by Lily Brute ★★★★★ Why did I put this one off for so long? This was a great fairy tale like story.

picked by Donna Cinnamon ★★★★★ I love this series. I hope book 4 is out soon. Must research this.

Picked by Amie My Rugby-Playing Twink by Jaime Samms ★★★ With a cover like this, I was expecting a bit more heat. This was an okay story, but not what I expected based on the plot description (and cover).

picked by Katie World's End ★★ Well...it wasn't the pirate story I was hoping for.

Bonus picks 8/21 read

picked by Ella For Better Or Worse ★★★★★ This is last (I think...I hope not) in a series of short stories that started in the MMGroup's DRiTC event. I have really enjoyed this young couple's story.

picked by Roger Tomfoolery ★★★ Short & sweet shifter story. I am fan of Lou Harper's work.

picked by Grace Darkness at Endersley ★★★ This was a bit slow moving. What really saved it for me was re-visiting with the MCs from book 1 30 years later.

Thanks to all for these picks!

Ty Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer 4.5 ★
Loved this second book in the series. It's so original!

Jo Jo The Hot Zone (Rainshadow, #3; Harmony, #11) by Jayne Castle 4 ★ Another fun entry in the Raintree/Harmony series. Can't get enough of dust bunnies!

Nadine Born in Blood (The Sentinels, #1) by Alexandra Ivy 3.5★ Really interesting start to a new series. I'm looking forward to reading the next one when it comes out.

Skandia Splendour Falls by Susanna Kearsley 3.5 ★ Not my favorite Susanna Kearsley, but still a really good story. I love her writing style.

Ezi Willing Sacrifice (Sentinel Wars, #8) by Shannon K. Butcher 4 ★ Another good story in this series.

Ty | 1943 comments Finished Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson, #7) by Darynda Jones , which everyone and their mother rec'd for me. Loved it, of course. But I feel I am biased when it comes to my favorite series. Charlie, Kate/Curran, Guild Hunters, Mercy Thompson, Downside. Seriously, I can't bring myself to give them any less than 5 stars, even tho I KNOW it's slightly imperfect. I'm just sooo freaking happy to be able to delve into their world again, I just don't give a flying puck if it sucks even slightly. Now, if it becomes a trend (I'm looking at you, LKH & Sookie), then yeah, that's a different matter.

MountainKat | 31599 comments I finished two more of my picks this week! I'm up to nine. =)

Karla's pick: Immortal by J.R. Ward - I enjoyed this one quite a bit, it was a good end to the series! (But it seemed like we will be seeing some of the characters again in the future!)

Anita's pick: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout - not really my taste, but I needed to read it for a couple of challenges so I was really glad you picked it for me. It gave me just that extra push a I needed to get through it!

I started listening to pick #10 today - Dana's pick, Judgment in Death. I love the audio of this series! It only takes one minute of listening and you sit back and sigh, just knowing it is going to be wonderful!

Aarati | 148 comments Preethi I finished reading Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson, #7) by Darynda Jones and it was AWESOME!! Some of the twists.. Oh man. Didn't see them coming. The series is getting serious with each book!

Shelby I finished reading you bonus pick Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews . In true Ilona Andrews style IT WAS AWESOME!!! I loved every moment of that book!

Penney I'm starting with Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter, #7) by Nalini Singh today!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 731 comments Group 3
Finished 12 of 35

Amie - Finished Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning today and I liked it. There was a YA feel to it, which isn't really my favorite thing, but the world building was very good. I'm going to continue with the series.

Sunshine - Starting The Opportunist (Love Me with Lies, #1) by Tarryn Fisher (bonus pick) and I'm really excited. I hope it lives up to my expectations. I like a little angst in my romance and what better way than with love triangle/amnesia theme, right? ; )
