Team Name?
So far we have:
Ragnarok (From Thor movie)
Calcifer (from Howl's Moving Castle)
Burning To Read
Asbes-Toes
Cinder Squad
Burning Books
Pants On Fire.

Maybe Calcifer's Cronies?
(You can tell I like alliteration)

Just me? Probably.
Calcifer's Cronies gets my vote!

Calcifer's Cronies gets my vote!"
LOL, I was just thinking that too Not yet (or even Not just yet) is funny. I am with Calcifer's Cronies too. I need to watch that Howl's Moving Castle though, I've never heard of it

How comfortable is everyone with google sheets? Just in case, I'll copy the countdown tasks, which we'd have to complete before going for extra Group Tasks. Of course, Round 1 doesn't start until August 12, so who knows what we'll be reading in that distant future..
10 first published on the 10th of a month
9 with at least nine characters (need to have a speaking part, do not need to be main characters)
8 that has a carnivorous animal on the cover
7 written by an author who has published at least seven books (as listed on Goodreads)
6 that is number six in the series
5 that was first published in the 1950s
4 where the audio version has at least four narrators
3 that is part of what was originally a planned trilogy, but became a longer series (can include .5 books added later)
2 that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads)
1 which is the author's debut novel

How does everyone to work on these tasks? Do we want to put our hand up for the different tasks and assign ourselves to them?

Yes, grab any that you like, If two people want the same task, I think we should yield to whomever can finish it first. Some are easier than others.

8. Zombies on cover (they are carniverous!)
7. written by John Ringo, so lots of titles
6 Number 6 in series
3 I think this was supposed to be a trilogy!
2 Has 2 authors
1 Mike Massa's debut book
So maybe I should save it for an August read!

Nr 10 first published on the 10th of a month with Crazy Love You by Lisa Unger (published Feb 10, 2015)
nr 7 written by an author who has published at least seven books (as listed on Goodreads) with Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell. She has written way more than 7 books.
Nr 2 that has two authors (as credited on Goodreads) with The 18th Abduction by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro
The last 2 books will be coming to me as audiobooks after the 12th of August and I have to read for another challenge anyway LOL

Oh you'd love it ! It's also a book by Dianna Wynne Jones - Howl's Moving Castle - definitely underrated but great reading ^_^
As for the books, that's going to be tough - I don't normally pick my reads ahead of time and rather just let them call to me - but I'm assuming we can't read for the same tasks can we :P ?
I'll probably pick up a book closer to the date.

I love that you and your son read the same books! How old is he? I buddy read with my 9 year old daughter, but they are books at her level, not the ones I chose for this challenge obviously (although she'd love to, she is rather intrigued by bloody messy thrillers lol)

I will be returning from vacay at start of challenge but will rest up and be ready to begin.
In looking over count down tasks I know for a fact I won't be able to cover the following tasks - no Audio books for me (don't like them), no1950's book and possibly no 10th of the month books (except that it happens to occur).
Anything else I should be able to cover.

My sons are 18 and 20, so they've had the run of my library for a while. I worry a bit that the 18 year old never learned to find books on his own, since his older brother and I hand him so much stuff we think he'd like.
Chava, if your daughter wants to help in the challenge you guys could read some of the Tamora Pierce books. Sandry's Book is the first of the Circle Opens series and it's great for that age -- either in print or in FULL CAST AUDIO, so it would count for #4. The book just has to exist in audio to count -- you can read it either way.
I like classic mysteries, so maybe I can find one from the 1950s.

My daughter loves reading, especially if she buddy reads with me. We've develped our own little challenges for her to get her to extend her reading range

I'll try to make a pile of various books that fit the list, so when August come I can look to see if any of them look tasty. Do we want to plan out the rest of the two weeks or just take it as it comes? I'm pretty lazy but if you guys are planners I can bestir myself.

And if you want to grab a spot shout out here and I'll keep message 4 updated (or if you want to ungrab a spot). I figure we want to try to finish the first ten in the first week or so.

I'll probably fill for whatever remaining task is when the day comes

Actually... I could do this task - definitely have a few Stephen King books I wanted to dive into

How about we fill in the Book title when we start the book so we don't overlap, and then add in the rest as we finish. That way when you finish your first book you can check to see what you should grab next.

I just tried it says read only.

I can't put anything in that spreadsheet either. I've just requested access

Title: The 18th Abduction
Authors: James Patterson & Maxine Paetro
Finished: 8/13/2019
How it fits: written by 2 authors, credited by GR

Chafic, were you reading a Stephen King for 7? Because the audio I got for my drive to my son's college works for 7. I guess it also works for 9, so I can grab that from Chava if that makes things faster.
Maritza, can you get onto the spreadsheet now?

I finished abook, but not a Stephen King book - but it still works for the same task
Completion Post

Book: His Last Bow
Author: Arthur Conan Doyle
FInished: 8/14
How it Fits: He's written a lot, but there's 9 Sherlock Holmes books alone!

Chava, I'm going to finish a book tomorrow (Thursday, US) that has nine characters. Does yours fit anywhere else?
After I finish the drive home, I"m thinking I'll start the book for task 3, although if someone else grabs that I'll switch to something else. Let's remember to update the spreadsheet when we start something!

Beth that would be wonderful if you could, for some reason I'm stuck with 'view-only' on the spreadsheet and can't edit it :(

Or like this: Spreadsheet
I got this link from the doc's "Share" feature but I don't know if it's different from the ones above.
