Beth | 1659 comments Can you put it on the spreadsheet with the I for SIX?

Chava | 1522 comments Beth wrote: "Can you put it on the spreadsheet with the I for SIX?"

done, but again can't get the hyperlink to work, sorry

message 104: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I just got the right click thing to work so I'm excited. But I think the link is all the mods need.

message 105: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I put down the two books I'll start on Monday for the next round. I'll read a science fiction book and listen to a detective book as I drive back home.

message 106: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Will look into the o and u and let you know.

message 107: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I went ahead and put FOUR on the spreadsheet. Let's try to keep that updated. I'll check in on Sunday and see if I need to change to a different word or whatever depending on what we do over the weekend.

Also, I'm zooming through a mystery series on audio, so I've had a bunch of books this week. Next week I run out of kids to drive to college, so my audio consumption will drop back down to one or two a month.

message 108: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Almost finished with my X book.

message 109: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I have a 6 hour drive tomorrow. Any other letters we still need? I can see if I can find an audiobook to match

message 110: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Are we trying for FOUR? I'll finish the F but we need the rest. Or to set our sights a little smaller:

Can someone do an O? We could turn it into OF. (Task 3)

I don't see anyone signing up for the R or U, but OF is a good enough word.

Is anyone going to claim more tasks for Round 2? So far I only see me and Chava on the spreadsheet. Is the spreadsheet hard to see? I don't mind updating it for people but I like to use it to see what we are doing since it's not a moving target like the discussion thread.

message 111: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Just finished my X book. Will update ss and see if I can find a fast read for r or u.

message 112: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Found an O book

message 113: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I have an R book - Hell Island by Matthew Reilly
I'll have it finished tonight.

message 114: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I found a U book Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer

If no one else has read a U book by tonight I'll try to get it in.

message 115: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I can’t find a quick U book so go for it.

message 116: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Chafic, are you still there? The last time I thought I heard from you it was actually Chava. Do you have a U book?

message 117: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Finished my U book. Chava, I couldn't get your link to resolve so I re-did it with the book from your comment.

message 118: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Sorry guys couldn't finish book yesterday, had company over.

message 119: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Okay, I've started my NPR book: My Sister, the Serial Killer

message 120: by Chafic (new)

Chafic (Rello) (irrell) | 35 comments Beth wrote: "Chafic, are you still there? The last time I thought I heard from you it was actually Chava. Do you have a U book?"

Still here, I'm way behind in updating my challenges. Yes I have access to the spreadsheet.
I've got quite a few books done already but they don't work for FOUR.

I've got The President Is Missing , Daughters of the Lake and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz done for this week.

None of the characters fit any of the higher scoring letters though.

message 121: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Chafic, I think it’s too late for that now anyways. The second round has started

message 122: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Maritza wrote: "Sorry guys couldn't finish book yesterday, had company over."

Maritza, no problem!

In general, especially at the end, let's talk about what's in doubt, because it's better to get points for smaller words than to lose all the points for incompletes. I hate leaving points on the table! But I didn't want to move your stuff around without hearing from you. The deadline in the middle of the night for most of us is sure inconvenient.

I've started my audio and print books for Round 2!

Looking ahead, I can't see anything that would work for Stage 2 next week. I have a feeling we will skip that one again.

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments okay so I just finished my book. my other challenge is over so I can focus on us for now. have another challenge starting in Sept. will re-evalutate later. Will post my book and see if it fits in somehow.

Outlaw MC Bear
read 08/26/19****
Title starts with O

message 124: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Maritza, is this the book you started for last group's spell it out? In that case we can't use it, sorry! We can only use books started after the switch over to Round 2. And it's too late for all the books we tried to use to spell out FOUR in Round one.

I was confused because there is a task in Round 2 Countdown that is Book Starts With O, but if you started that one on Sunday then it's not eligible there either.

message 125: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Okay scratch that one. Will see what else i find to read.

message 126: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Started book by African - American author. Updated ss.

message 127: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I finished 2 books - the 1001 books before you die one (easy one!) and the NPR list. I've updated spreadsheet

message 128: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments I also have book for #5 but will wait to see what Chafic claims.

message 129: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Finished SF, started Canadian book and updated spreadsheet.

message 130: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Chafic, I'm pretty sure we aren't allowed to start books for Round two until the countdown ended. Are you sure you started your books at the right time?

From the Lava rules:

"Books for each round need to be started AFTER the round begins. So, for example, in round one if you start a book, it is a good idea to find the short words in safezone group 3 you can assign it to before the deadline for round one as you won't be able to use it for round two!"

"Books for each round..."

Shoot you're right. I completely forgot about that.
I'll remove the book. Started it on the 24th.
I got a book I started that I can use for either 500+ pages / Black Cover.

So I'll just remove the date and if you have a book for either then I'll just move mine to the other.

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Hi guys. Hope to finish my state book by today or tomorrow and have also started other book to finish by at least Friday. I think we're doing pretty good so far. Happy Reading.

I also had same concern about Chafic's book - glad it was addressed. Striving for no penalties this round and more chatting.

message 133: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I guess I was sensitive because it was my book that raised the mod's eyebrows last round. So I went back to reread all the rules so I wouldn't screw up again.

I should finish my C-A-T book soon (an audio). I have a Canadian book that should be quick, and a longer Black Cover so I'm hoping someone else does that one.

message 134: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Finished State book and updated ss.

message 135: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Finished Canada book.

message 136: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Question: would this book be okay for a book starting with O
Oh, Obviously

I'm struggling to get into my other O book and this is a quick audiobook I can listen to while doing my work tomorrow.

message 137: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments It doesn't seem to have any tags, so I guess technically it isn't a children's book. Can you show that it has more than 25000 words? Is the audio book long enough? I think they are supposed to be 3 or maybe 4 hours long.

It looks legit -- I mean, in the letter of the law it isn't tagged as CHILDRENS and in the spirit of the law it looks long enough to qualify anyway.

Does anyone have a shot at a black book? The only one on my shelves is about 500 pages. I'd rather find something else fun and let Chafic's chunkster be the black book.

message 138: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Ha! I just found The Desperate Mission The Desperate Mission (Star Wars The Last of the Jedi, #1) by Jude Watson on my shelves. I got the black book!

message 139: by Beth (last edited Aug 29, 2019 11:28AM) (new)

Beth | 1659 comments We have the Countdown 10 covered, so let's look to what to read next. Shall we try to spell out ACID? One of the letters has to be a former BOM or something another team used for the challenge.

I'm still on my Aurora Teagarden audio kick so I should be able to cover A.

message 140: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Can’t find the word count. It’s 5 hrs 40min

message 141: by Chava (new)

No pressure Chafic! :-)

Chava | 1522 comments Chava wrote: "Completed O book. Can someone update spreadsheet? I’m offline until tmw"

Thanks to who updated the spreadsheet for me. I actually read both O books in the end. So, in the end, you put the adult one up and that is the safest bet. Thanks!

message 147: by Maritza (new)

Maritza (spanishwhispers) | 2241 comments Good morning guys. This has been a good reading week for me. Can we begin reading next book or do we wait.

message 148: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments We are still waiting on the 400+ book. Are we going to do ACID next? Does anyone have a book that is either a BOM or was used by another team? We can't start reading the books until we finish the Countdown but we should be poised.

Looking at it right now, I'd read my next Aurora Teagarden for A, and Maritza has an I ready, but neither of those are BOM picks. We still need a C and a D, and they should be books we'll finish fairly quickly. Then we can start spelling things out.

message 149: by Beth (last edited Aug 31, 2019 09:03AM) (new)

Beth | 1659 comments I'm changing my proposed read for ACID spell it out -- I found that Lavalicious Ladies had read Iron and Magic so I'll grab that for A. It's an Ilona Andrews book so I should be able to read it in a few days. Now all the other letters are completely open!

But I won't start until I hear that the 400+ page book is done.

message 150: by Beth (new)

Beth | 1659 comments Chafic -- are you going to be able to finish your book? If not, can you swap out for something else that you can finish before the deadline on Sunday? There are some short books in the 1001 Books option; that one doesn't have a minimum page count or anything.

Do we need to have something from each team member in the countdown? I have a book club book that I will finish tomorrow that is 433 pages. If I haven't heard back from Chafic by the time I wake up tomorrow (I'm on PST on the American west coast) I could swap that in.

In general for the team I would say that there is no problem if something comes up and we can't read what we planned, but it would be much easier if we can talk about it.

As soon as the ten tasks are done, we can start working on ACID and then other spell it outs. But we can't start reading for them until the Countdown 10 are done, and we can't finish one group ahead of the other.
