Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Ok so official ruling on using Chevalier (Romanus, #2) by Mary Calmes won't work because Romanus is the series name and it's not directly part of the title.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Hello Ladies!!

Only about 8 hours to go until the challenge starts!! Here is the link to the countdown Countdown
This is 7am EST or if you're me it will be 6am Central time!

I will be starting off with The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson which fits for task 4 with 4 narrators. I will be listening to that on audio so should have it finished while I work tomorrow.

I have just requested access to the spread sheet for you guys (sorry it's been a crazy week!) so if you don't have access tomorrow or you're not comfortable with updating the spread sheet then just make a read post and I will update for you!

What is everyone starting with?

Teri | 678 comments A Pocketful of Rye by Agatha Christie for task 5, first published in 1953
and
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston for task 1, a debut novel

message 56: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments Happy lava kick off! I need to finish a book I started last week and is due back at the library (should be done today) and then I'll see what I can read for tasks that haven't been claimed yet.

Sounds great! If there is one that has either my name or Teri's that works better you just let us know, I don't mind trading!

message 58: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Finished A Pocketful of Rye and added it to the spreadsheet. Not my favorite Agatha Christie novel, but I liked it okay. Hope y'alls books are going well. I'm going to try and get Circe from the library this week, but I will start working on Red, White & Royal Blue now.

message 59: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I’m almost finished with A Kind Worth Killing and I’m loving it!! It was a cheapie from audible and honestly I only got it because of the four narrators lol but I’m really glad I did!

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I am reading Harry Potter! So hope to be finished soon

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Victorian Vickie wrote: "I am reading Harry Potter! So hope to be finished soon"

Awesome!! I just finished The Kind Worth Killing and added it to the spreadsheet. I'm going to start Gemina for the two authors. It's a bit longer than I really wanted to do for this challenge but I just read Illuminae during the WOT challenge and so I feel I must continue with the series and since it fits I'm gonna go ahead and read it!

Great first day so far!!

message 62: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments I can start Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide tomorrow for the task of 2 authors.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Sharon wrote: "I can start Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide tomorrow for the task of 2 authors."

Sounds good Sharon, I will hold off on Gemina and will do The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for the trilogy that got added on to and start listening to Dragon Marked for the carnivorous animal on cover task.

message 64: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments How is everyone doing on their books today?

I started a book today that has a wolf on the cover and i kid you not it has sparks on the cover as well and the word lava was in the text in the very first chapter!! So i cant read it for task iii in group 2 safezone but maybe one of you guys will want too? Its on kindle unlimited and has the free audio too. Its Dragon Marked

message 65: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments okay cool. I have gotten about 1/4 the way through Red, White & Royal Blue, i will definitely finish by tomorrow. I picked up Circe so that will be next. I have another to read for another challenge, but it is super quick, so not worried about it cutting into time.

That really depends on Sharon and Vickie and how far they are with their books

message 69: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments I'm halfway through - I'll probably finish tomorrow on my commute to work (it's an audio book).

message 70: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Finished Red, White & Royal Blue which was super adorable, but perhaps a bit longer than necessary.
Starting Circe this evening or maybe in the morning because I'm tired. Hope everyone's books are going well!

message 71: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Hi, so ...sometimes I have trouble just reading one book at a time and was wondering if I should move on to the Group 2 tasks, or if we have to make sure all of Group1 is finished first.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Teri wrote: "Hi, so ...sometimes I have trouble just reading one book at a time and was wondering if I should move on to the Group 2 tasks, or if we have to make sure all of Group1 is finished first."

We have to completely finish the countdown before we can start on any of the safezones. I have hard time with only one book at a time as well. You can read something else while we wait on the others it just won't count for the safezones

message 73: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I haven't started the sixth book in a series yet if you want to go ahead and read for that task. I have a couple books to catch up on that I can read while we wait.

message 74: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments I finished Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide! What's everyone else working on/what tasks are left? I'm going to the library tonight and can pick up something to read quickly.

message 75: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments I'm working on Circe for a book published on the 10th of the month
Also Hoarfrost which is the 6th of a series, but I can read it for fun if Jessi is already working on the 6th of the series task

message 76: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I'm reading Fierce Obsessions which will work for book 6 in a series but it will also work for tasks 9 & 7 so whichever task Vickie's book works for I can put this one there. I should finish The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today when I get off work.

So we're in a hold until all books for the countdown are done.

Hopefully Vickie will check in soon.

message 77: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Ok heard from Vickie and she is almost done with with both of her books.

message 78: by Sharon (last edited Aug 15, 2019 11:09AM) (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments Do we have to wait to start reading for the next set of tasks until all books are logged for the first set, or can we start reading a book now as long as we finish it after the first set of tasks is done?

message 79: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments We have to wait until the countdown is done before starting books for the safe zones. Once we start one of the safe zones (let's say zone 2) then we could start books for zone 3 as long as those aren't finished until zone 2 is finished.

Trying to get the timing down for the countdown is the hard part but we're almost done! In the mean time read just for the fun of it!

haha thanks! I've reread them A LOT!! So I hope i understand them correctly and I'm not screwing it all up for all us!

message 82: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments I've finished Circe for task 10
I will get on Hoarfrost tomorrow. It isn't that long, so I should be able to get it done pretty quickly

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments All right ladies we now have a countdown to jump out of the deadly substance know as Lava! Countdown is Here!

I'm almost done with Hitchhiker's... I fell asleep while reading last night.

Vickie, are you almost done with yours?

message 85: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Awesome. So once the countdown is done and the next section starts, does anyone care if I do task 4 in Group 2? I also requested from the library one that will count for task 1 in Group 2.

I think that sounds great!

message 87: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Evening guys,
I finished Hoarfrost, which was my least favorite of the series so far, but that's okay. ALso, I misspoke about what I had for Group 2. I have task 4 already purchased (Hide Your Crazy, but I have task 2 from the library. I could purchase something for task 1 if no one else has anything. Let me know what works best.

message 88: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) Sorry..finished 2 books...almost 3. School started this week...

I have been reading...but coming home and crashing!!!!!
Going to post my books now

message 89: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) Just updated the spreadsheet. What do I need to read now? I finished one audio and one paperback today.....I have a kindle book almost finished....

message 90: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) I have a book I can start that has the letters LAVA in RED in the Title.... Scandalous Virtue (The Saint of Seven Dials #0) by Brenda Hiatt

I will start this in 8 house unless someone has already claimed this task?

message 91: by Jessi (last edited Aug 16, 2019 11:13PM) (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I will have to look at the tasks for group 2 but you guys can claim what you want on the spreadsheet and we can go from there!

message 92: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Ok I've updated the spreadsheet and we are officially good to go to start reading for group 2!

Yay for no burnt feet!!

Teri you can read for task ii as well unless Sharon has a book for that task that she would like to read. I have a book for iii. If Teri does take two tasks then Sharon you can start for group 3 just remember you can't finish the book until we're completely done with group 2. Then we can pick some words we want to do for group 3. Most of the other teams (the ones I trolled to see what they were doing) are skipping group 1 of the safezones. We can get more points with group 3 so I think it's a good idea if we skip it as well.

Let me know what ya'll think!

Yikes!
You have singed hair! Luckily once round 2 begins you have a chance to regenerate some points.

Task 2 - There is no book entered. We have highlighted the cell

Your total points have been reduced by 10 points

message 94: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Okay, I have Hide Your Crazy (KPD Motorcycle Patrol #1) by Lani Lynn Vale for task 4 (something hot on the cover and author spells LAVA --Lani Lynn Vale)

message 95: by Teri (last edited Aug 17, 2019 05:21AM) (new)

Teri | 678 comments I can do The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror (Pine Cove, #3) by Christopher Moore for 2-->50% red cover, author's name spells HOT (Christopher Moore)

Sharon, if you want to read one for Task 2, I'm totally fine skipping this, up to you, just let me know.

message 96: by Sharon (last edited Aug 17, 2019 06:45AM) (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments I don't have a book right now that will work for Task 2, so go ahead. I can start on group 3. We are spelling out LAVA and/or HOT, right? Or is it just literally any word from a task? I'm a little confused by group 3

message 97: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Done with Hide Your Crazy, which was, in fact, crazy. I liked it though.
I will start the one for task ii, but we have plans tonight so I probably won't finish until tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great day!!

I was confused about the words we are spelling as well...

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Group three is rather an odd one but I think it’s ANY word that was in the countdown tasks

Okay, I'm sorry to keep asking questions but does this mean we pick a work as a group? and then spell it out or each team member tries to do a word? Sorry.
