Personally, I'd just say nine characters with speaking parts, if they haven't asked for specifics.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments It looks like in the S/S on the Team Members tab we should have a shelf setup for book for this challenge. Although I'm not sure for what use.

I saw that as well but none of the other teams have it set so I think it isn't a must

Keli | 1319 comments They mentioned a shelf for those that want to use them, to make it easier but it's not a requirement.

Keli | 1319 comments I've had to change my debut novel. As much as I want to read Neanderthal Seeks Human it's over 400 pages and I'm a slow reader. But I've found Blonde Roots on audioplayer, which means I can listen at work. So i should have that finished by tomorrow evening.
What is the best the plan for the safe zone? Are we doing zones 1 & 2? Just 3? Or all of them? I need to know what to read after this book. 😁

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Ugh I'm not sure what the best route is once we finish all our safe zone books.

I'll probably change my book 3 as well, it is long and a shorter book would work much better.

We would need to do 1 & 2 entirely for 320 points. Which would be two books each, but might be harder to find books to fit versus the spell-out option. To get that many points with the spell-out would take more books. Where if we do 1 & 2 and have time for a small word or two it would be a bonus.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Hi ladies. Currently at jury duty but I’m trying to read as much as I can to get my books done. I’ll try peaking in from time to time

True option 3 seems the easiest and for the most points. But i don't think we have to spell out the whole word. Thought at crater category we only need to do two letters for pt 1 and 2 members need to complete a task each, which will give us 160 points plus whatever we can then spell out.

message 65: by Plethora (last edited Aug 15, 2019 02:32PM) (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments From the way I understand it:

Option 3: We need to do whole words or we don't get any points for the word attempt. So if word was "points" and we only read "point" we don't get any points for it.

Option 1, we need read for all the letters. The 2 members/books is actually just that two of those letters have to be filled with a book another team has read during the challenge or a prior NBRC BOM. The other two just meet the spell-out requirements.

Option 2: we need to do all four task, and at least two of us have to have read for it.

Oh, that makes sense now. I did wonder why we only had to spell half a word. 😳
So which do you think is better, Plethora? Attempting just 3? Or going for the others?

message 67: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I think more points from 1/2 but hard to fill tasks . So 3 might be easier and we'd get more read to balance out the points?

But not sure.

message 68: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I found another book for the triliogy, i'm puzzled its only like 224 pages but the audio is over 11 hrs????? that must be the slowest reader on the planet!

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I've completed 1 of 2 books. I should be done with my next book by tonight.

message 70: by Keli (last edited Aug 16, 2019 06:09AM) (new)

Keli | 1319 comments I'll have my last book finished soon. Would you all me to compile a list of books read by the other groups?
I can't really say which way to go. I only just understood the rules with Plethora's explanation.

message 71: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments I didn't realize this part in the rules, but we should be ok.

We need to have Stage One done in the next 21 hours. Countdown

I thought it was two weeks in full, not that there was a separate counter for Stage One to be completed by. Was I the only one that missed that distinction?

We can start the other stages once we complete our first stage, but if a team doesn't make that they are stuck in the lava.

Wow that would be great if you were willing to do that. Maybe in the spreadsheet on a tab (i dumped a tab on there if you want to use it, nothing fancy at this point). Since the list will continue to grow and there is (will be) a ton of books across the teams as the challenge goes on the list would grow and grow.

message 73: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments None of us can start any other books for the next stages whatever it is we select until all of our stage one are completed.

But we should decide soon what our next plan of attack will be.

I totally missed that. I was thinking the same as you. I should be done in time :)

I was looking in other groups and noticed that others have started the safe zone tasks so I think we're ok to get started once we finish our 1st stage.

That is what i was trying to still say in my post. We can start the other stages once we do complete, we just have to be done by the countdown or we are stuck in the lava. However, short on sleep and time so might not always be clear. :)

Keli | 1319 comments I've compiled the list of books read by all the other teams. I put it on the page "Book Read Other Teams"
I only did the countdown tasks for now, though some teams have started their safezone tasks.

That was quick! Yes, if they have finished stage one they can start the other tasks.

Need to post my completion.

message 79: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1319 comments I'm all done and posted on the spreadsheet.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments I can read lost girls of Paris for L if we want to do stage 2. team mt booksuvious read it.

Round 1: Countdown Stage

Task: That was first published in the 1950s

Book: Excellent Women
Author: Barbara Pym
Read: 08/16/19

Fits: First published in 1952

message 82: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Carmen took pity on me last night about that crazy audio and took my last task, read book from planned trilogy.

message 83: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments So just waiting for her to post her completions so we can move on.

So are we wanting to start with Group 1?

Sounds like Keli you have The Vampire Prince for the "V"- read by other team
and Nikk you have Lost Girls of Paris for "L" - read by other team
Which would leave Carmen and I both needing an A book.

[Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name]

message 84: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments The next book i was going to read and have just wait to start until Carmen is done hoping i could fit into this challenge has a character "Art" so I can use it because we only need a minimum of two books to be read by another team.

message 85: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments So, based on a question I asked we want to make sure we are finishing these stage one quickly each round. I asked if the countdown period would be the same each week and they said since they didn't post as such in rule, not likely. So we could get caught off guard. I fear they will shorten as the rounds move along.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I finished the books and all posted. Sorry I’ve been all over the place today but so happy for audio. Yay. Ok so what are we doing next?

message 87: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments OK so Carmen has an A book on fmdeck as well. Sounds we are free to read for the first free zone. We can plan ahead to what next. We can start other books but we can't finish them before we have all finished the lava book.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I've completed my A book. Do we know where we going next? I guess I'll look at previous messages. LOL

message 89: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1319 comments I probably won't have my V book done until tomorrow. It shouldn't take long.

message 90: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1319 comments Also, if we're going to do the next LAVA spell it out. Can I claim an A? I've got the audiobook of The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh out from the library and it's due back in 9 days. So I will need to listen before then and would be great to use it here.

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Keli not sure what you mean? Are we doing Option 3 and spelling out Lava?

or are we going to do option 3? If so i can do #4 but I can also do 1 & 2

message 92: by Keli (new)

Sorry, I meant option 2, which is still a LAVA spell it out.
I don't completely get the safezone rules, so I don't know what words make up our choices for option 3.

message 93: by Keli (last edited Aug 17, 2019 05:59PM) (new)

Keli | 1319 comments Okay just re-read for option two. Did I tell you all that I have an atrocious memory? I have read the instructions about ten times. I just can't remember them. Sorry. Now if you'd like me to recall some obscure fact or list you all the présidents of the US and their years in office, I'm your gal. Anything else just doesn't stay in. Took me years to remember my husband's bday. So you may have to remind me of the rules again.
So for option 3 we can pick any word from the countdown tasks?

message 94: by Keli (new)

Keli | 1319 comments Are we skipping option two? I think if we already knew which books to read for it, we'd probably get it and a word or two from option 3 done. But, as it is, we'd need to find the right book, make sure we have or can get them quickly then read them. That might take longer than we want. So going for option 3 after this, for this round, might be a better plan. Just a thought.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments completed my Lava book and updated spreadsheet. Should we head straight to safe zone 3 and attempt some spell out words or attempt safezone 2. I have had a little look around and have yet to find any thing to work for the sz2 tasks yet but its 10 pm here and i am about to go to bed so my brain is a little. happy to go with majority on where to go next. I am sure i can find something tomorrow to fit where needed

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Keli wrote: "Okay just re-read for option two. Did I tell you all that I have an atrocious memory? I have read the instructions about ten times. I just can't remember them. Sorry. Now if you'd like me to recall..."

Hahahaha its ok, we all have selective memory when it comes to certain things. I know I do 😉

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I think we should go with the 3rd but I know we need 2 people to do the 2nd but I was wondering if we can do both at the same time, if we wanted. I'll have to look into it but I'm thinking thats a no. I think things will go quicker if we came go ahead while others are still working on a different task and then they can hope in. I'll take a look in the Q&A and see if that has come up and if not I'll ask.

message 98: by ☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ (last edited Aug 18, 2019 10:59AM) (new)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments Ok so, I've looked into the Q&A and it doesn't matter which group we go with we would need to finish one at a time. So which word do we want to go with? We can also pick from the books in group one as well.

message 99: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 2239 comments Ugh. I missed all these text. Oh well yesterday was a shot day unfortunately. To clarify, The next safe one with the 4 specific task would need to complete all tasks, but yes only 2 people need to do it versus each taking a task. Overall 4 books for 50 pts each is going to be more points than a word with 4 letters from part 3. Because of the point values per letter.

I am going to work on finishing my one book first before I look for something because I don't want to hold us up. If we decide on what the reading can start but the book can't be finished until we are all done with the other group.

message 100: by Plethora (new)
