QOTD: Who are some of your favorite authors that are considered unpopular or fly under the radar?

Grady Hendrix is on my list too. I enjoyed the books that I read from Silvia Moreno-Garcia and Stephen Graham Jones. I hope you have a great reading experience with them.

Oh, I hope you enjoy Ken Follett. I read Pillars of the Earth by him and enjoyed it. It's a bit of a tome but it's good. I need to read more of his books.

QOTD: What is your 2022 reading goal, if you set one? If you didn't, did you set a monthly reading goal for January? If so, what is it?

My 2022 reading goal is 50 books. If I set a daily page goal for the month, it's usually 50 or 100 pages a day.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments My reading goal for the year is 52 books. I’d like to take more time to pick books that aren’t just fill in the gaps and maybe some longer books too.

For anyone that knows me, this response would be no surprise, but I would love to experience The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V. E. Schwab for the first time again. I'd love to read it again and not know the ending. It's my absolute favorite book and I'm not sure any book will ever take its place.

Elizabeth (estewart399_lcpl) | 601 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What book do you wish you could experience for the first time again? Why?"

I'd love to experience The Maidens by Alex Michaelides again just because it was such an intense thriller for me, I know I sat down and read the whole thing in a day and it stuck with me for a while.

QOTD: Are there any 2022 movie adaptations of books that you're excited about? If so, what are they?

message 1814: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Apparently, All Quiet on the Western Front is supposed to become a movie released on Netflix. I know there are early versions of it, but I'd rather watch the new one.

I read an article that said Where The Crawdads Sing and also The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah were going to be made into movies, I'm looking forward to that if it's true.

I'm excited for Daisy Jones & the Six, One True Loves, and The Hating Game to be adapted. I'm sure there are probably more but these are just the ones off the top of my head.

Here are some off the top of my head, in no particular order:
1. I was looking forward to the new Scream, which I watched last night and it was fantastic.
2. I'm also looking forward to watching the new season of Dexter, which came out at the end of last year I think, but I didn't get around to watching it.
3. Morbius - which is a new Marvel Legends story featuring Jared Leto
5. Uncharted
6. Avatar 2
7. Hocus Pocus 2
8. John Wick 4
9. The Northman
10. Spider-man: No Way Home

QOTD: What is a bookish accessory/object/thing you don't like? Why?

message 1823: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I don't really care for magnetic bookmarks. There's just something easier about shoving a bookmark in a book and moving on. I also lose magnetic bookmarks more than regular ones.

message 1824: by Krystyna (new)

Krystyna (adoseofcozy) | 889 comments LCPL wrote: "QOTD: What is a bookish accessory/object/thing you don't like? Why?"

I like many bookish accessories but the one that I don't really care for is an adjustable book cover. Back in middle school, it was popular to get book covers that you would put over your textbooks and everyone would doodle on theirs and personalize it and it was just a popular thing to do. Now, people make these book covers out of material like a book sleeve to put over the covers on your books. I will use a book sleeve so the book doesn't get damaged in my bag. But I don't know that I care for the book covers that you can put over the hardcover books. I think it's mostly because when I'm reading a hardcover I will remove the dust jacket because it gets on my nerves while reading, especially if you take the book out and about. I also don't want to damage the dust jacket. So, handmade book covers are not really my thing, but I do love a book sleeve.

Oh, I forgot about magnetic bookmarks. I'll use them but they're not my favorite. I will go for a traditional one over a magnetic one, for sure.

Magnifying sheet. It does not magnify unless you hold it away from the page. It was difficult to hold the book and hold the magnifying sheet. Turning a page was impossible.

QOTD: Is it hard for you to concentrate when you read? Are you easily distracted? Or do you zone out and get lost in the story, while tuning out the environment around you?

That entirely depends! I can't read a book in a room full of people, too distracting (and am always interrupted or teased for reading! grrr!!) But if i'm in a quiet, isolated spot by myself (and the story is captivating) I easily get sucked into it..

Really it depends on several factors. I can read in a crowded place or in a quiet room. But sometimes too quiet can make my brain unfocused because I focus on other stuff that needs to be done. And the there are the interruptions from the SO about attention. Ugh!

Most of the time, it is hard for me to concentrate when I'm reading. It has gotten better since I've gotten older. I can handle reading while there's people talking or noise in the background. It all depends on the situation.

The last book I read was Lovesickness by Junji Ito. I wouldn't recommend this book to everyone, because it won't be everyone's cup of tea. But, I would recommend it to people who enjoy horror. This collection is a great place to be introduced to his work, but you may want to skip the last story...trust me, you'll thank me later if you pick this up.

The last book I read was the latest installment of Enola Holmes, (Enola Holmes and The Black Barouche) and I recommend every book in the series to everyone lol They're genuinely clever plots, and then you get the sub-plot of a girl desperately trying to reconnect with her beloved brothers (on her own terms) and learning she isn't as alone in her life as she thought she'd always be.

Yes, I would recommend the last book I read, The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris. The story moved along and I was right there, in the setting with the characters. It took many paths that I did not expect. The whole story keep me entertained, interested and surprised. I think the story would work for many different types of readers.

QOTD: What's a genre you've never tried reading but want to? If you've tried them all, what's a genre you rarely read from but want to read more in?

I don't read much science fiction or non-fiction. Those are probably the two that I have read the least from. My goal this year is to be more intentional with my reading, instead of reading something because it's short or will meet a challenge or goal.

message 1844: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2445 comments I would like to read more true crime. For some reason, I hardly ever read any books from this genre but always enjoy it when I do.

message 1845: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 372 comments I’ve read a lot of different genres at one time or another. It’s been a long while since I’ve read non-fiction, memoirs in particular, but there are a couple out I am interested in and will get around to reading sooner or later (Dave Grohl and Brian Cox).

I'd like to get into more Biography's, maybe classic poets and writers as well. Any other Non Fiction doesn't appeal to me very much. in the fictional realm I really want to find a fantasy or sci-fi series I could get into.

I'm a mood reader. So, I typically go with whatever I'm in the mood for at the time. I also read multiple books at a time. I will also prioritize buddy reads and book club picks. I don't really have a set rhyme or reason as to how I select my next book. It's really all based on what reading mood I'm in at the time.

I am a little over over the place in choosing my next book. Some deciding factors are:
• challenges
• monthly reads
• due date
• my mood
