btwthesepages | 114 comments Week #7 : Law enforcement

Something About You (FBI/US Attorney, #1) by Julie James

Finished : 4th November
Rating : 4 stars
Review : It was soooo good. Jack was just so so dreamy (in a brooding-hot-FBI-agent kind of way). And Cameron was good too. Definitely someone I'd respect if I met her in real life. The suspense while definitely there wasn't much. Loved Collin and Amy as well. Oh and Wilkins too. Can't wait to see all of them again in the second book (Atleast I hope they are there in the second book, I haven't checked it out yet. Was too eager to post this review first :P)

What I loved the most was the banter and the little quips between Jack and Cam. Can't get enough of those ;)

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead

Finished: 11/3/14
Rating: 5 stars
Review: Wow. Richelle Mead just keeps raising the ante on this series. Just when I thought things couldn't get any more exciting, she drops a huge bomb on us. The love triangle is feeling a little tired, but maybe it's because I've never been that into Adrian. I don't get any chemistry there at all. But I still love Rose and Lissa, and the jealousy that seeps so authentically into their close bond. I can't wait to finish this out and jump into the spinoff.

btwthesepages | 114 comments Week 8: Scarred/injured MC
Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1) by Tammara Webber

Read: 7th Nov
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
* This book demands a much more thorough review but for the purpose of this challenge here it is in a gist ;) *

"Easy" - the title sounds pretty simple doesn't it? But ironically there is nothing that's easy about both the MCs lifes. Jacqueline and Lucas are both scarred in their own ways.

Jacqueline, a music major, followed her highschool boyfriend(Kennedy) to college thinking they had a future together, only to find herself dumped over a completely stupid reason. (On this note let me just say that Kennedy? He's an idiot. Stupid jerk. His reason to break up and the logic behind it is so stupid I'm not even going to bother mentioning what it was)

Lucas......let's keep him a secret for now. All you need to know is he's as mysterious as one can get ;)

These two cross paths when after a Halloween party, drunk Buck (one among Kennedy's fraternity and his arch nemesis) tries to assault Jacqueline in the empty parking lot. Lucas saves her and beat up Buck. The whole incident is very traumatic and Jacqueline wants to forget it all so she doesn't tell anyone about it. (Big mistake)
But suddenly Lucas is everywhere. She never noticed him before and now she can't go anywhere without running into him. Dangerous looking Lucas who makes her feel safe. Lucas who loved her from the moment he saw her. Lucas with the dark past......

I can't tell anymore without spilling spoilers. But this book isn't just a simple love story. (Even though the love story in itself is beautiful). It's about strength and bravery and fighting back. It's about courage. It's about remorse, guilt and redemption. It's about overcoming the tragedies we never anticipated. It's about love and support. And finally it's about finding the strength to ask for justice when you've been wronged, regardless of what the whole world will think, of the circumstances or who's to blame.

Like Coffee and Doughnuts (Dino Martini Mysteries, #1) by Elle Parker

Finished: 11/6/14
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I got such a kick out of old school Dino and his old lady friends versus young and brash Seth. Loved all of the characters, and the mystery was fun and exciting too. I especially liked the whole heist bit toward the end - kept me on my toes to see if everyone would come out okay! Great book and I'll probably read the sequel.

I read/listened to this book this last week as well. I had trouble keeping track of all the characters as well. There are just so many, and throw in the foreign names that can be quite similar as well, and I was lost at times :)

Grace | 1728 comments Week 8:
Breaking Free by Cherise Sinclair

Rating: ★★★1/2

I am really enjoying this series, and I never thought I would. Cherise Sinclair writes some of the best BDSM stories I've ever read. I'm not a big BDSM reader, but her stories really stand out to me. I wasn't really feeling the first part of the story (view spoiler) but the story grew on me as I read it. This story develops the relationship between the H/h more than any other in the series, but I wish it took it a little farther. I wanted to see Nolan and Beth outside of the club a little more, but over all a good story.

This book is hard for me to review. I liked it, but there parts that were too angsty and too over the top. It was a little too much insta love, over the top characters and actions that kept me from getting too involved in the story. I am really curious about the cliff hanger in the story, so I'll probably read the second book to find out what happens.

I've got this on my TBR. I may end up saving it for an option 2 now. I'm not a huge fan of instalove either, but the funny thing is, I seem to tolerate it more from MM than I do MF. I have no idea why that is.

*4 STARS*

As predictable as this story was, I still found myself really enjoying this book. I knew who Cinder was probably right from the beginning but I loved the way the reveal went. And talk about ending the story right when things are getting good! If I didn't have so much on my plate right now, I'd be moving right on to the next book in the series.

I really would like to know what's going to happen with Cinder and Prince Kai. I'm assuming that since this is a cinderella retelling that they are going to end up together, but I just don't see how it's going to come about. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I listened to this on audio. I've had it in my audible library for forever and just haven't gotten around to listening until now. I really think that the narrator did a great job with the story.

For me, I can handle instant love betterwhen its a paranormal romance or a sci fi. Since thw whole book relies on different worlds, I can believe in it more.

message 279: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments Yeah, PNR, sci-fi, that kind of stuff is definitely easier to take. But I guess I don't read as much M/M as I do M/F stuff so it doesn't grate my nerves. Also, I think women are always accused of falling in love too easily so when I see a woman do that in a story it makes me feel like they are falling into a stereotype. KWIM?

Week #9: Option 1
The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
I love this series so much and after finishing the Fever series I missed reading about the fey so I decided to read this book. Obviously it's completely different from the Fever series but I love it just as much.
Meghan is a brilliant heroine, she really is a refreshing YA heroine and it was lovely to read about her. Even though so much had changed in her life, throughout the whole book she remained the same funny and sarcastic girl.
Puck is hilarious and a complete contrast to Ash and he was such a lovable person. I adored his relationship with Meghan and pretty much loved every scene he was in, I definitely missed him near the end but I think that was at a good time to bring in Ash and Meghan.
On the other hand there was Ash, ah Ash. He was cold and scary near the beginning but as he went on the journey with Meghan, she started falling hard for him as did I as a reader. His back story was heart-wrenching and reading more about him in the other books was great.
Ash and Meghan's relationship made me smile until my mouth ached, every moment they had together was perfect, even the first moment they met! There was a hint of a love triangle but it was very subtle and thankfully it is clear who the 'main guy' is. The action and adventure element to this novel was brilliant, it was so exciting and thrilling

OMG, how could you not love Nash? I just wanted to eat him...and those delicious piercings, right on up!

Saint, on the other hand...I'm kinda lukewarm to her. I understand her issues but damn girl, go get some couch time and work that crap out. You can't stay that fat, 17-year-old girl forever and expect to grow.

I'm glad things worked out for them, but this story was gut-wrenching. So much sadness. Nash totally deserved his HEA.

And, it looks like they were hinting at another baby on the way at the end there (I'm not gonna say who's though).

I can't wait for this series to continue. It's got me completely hooked!

My favorite GFY. After a night of passion on his hoat, Raff is conflicted about his feelings for his cop partner, Nick. After all Raff is straight.
This is a short book about 2 men coming to the realization that they were in love with each other. There was some angst but tnankfully it was quickly resolved.

Princess diaries was not what I had expected when I read it the first time. But if I liked it then, I love it now. Sometimes re-reads can be boring as you already know the story.
