Had a look Ian. Post lockdown scenario is intriguing. Fingers crossed.

message 1010: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 269 comments Depressed here. We had eliminated the virus, then two women were let in, some official permitted a much shorter quarantine on compassionate grounds, didn't test, and the virus is back. There is no defence to a mix of ineptitude and stupidity

message 1011: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice Williams | 2516 comments Dear me. That is indeed a case of stupidity. However in relative terms, NZ has much to be thankful for.

message 1012: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice Williams | 2516 comments Besides, BBC just reported that it found an old steroid that is a good COVID cure.

Well done NASA. It is a basic and unsavoury function, but it is important that it is processed properly. The money will augment human creativity and ensure a high quality design.

I'm confused now! Has the event happened or is slated for the future?

'Because it takes about 500 years for the light to reach us, we would be viewing an event that had happened centuries in the past.'

message 1029: by Bernard (new)

Bernard Smith | 3030 comments Ah, Confused of Grasshopperland ....

If we saw the supernova today, the photons conveying that image would have set off 500 years ago. For comparison, the photons from the sun only take 8 minutes to reach us.

Grasshopper Bot (daisyking) | 6902 comments Mod
That still doesn't answer my question Space Mod! Has it already happened??

message 1031: by Bernard (new)

Bernard Smith | 3030 comments OMG GB! (Tears remaining hair out) It may have happened, and we have not seen it yet. But when we do see it, it will have happened 500 years before that date.

message 1033: by Bernard (new)

Bernard Smith | 3030 comments Its ok, I have ordered a wig.

Strictly speaking, everything we see is in the past. Light travels at 300 million metres per second, so the light from something 300 m away only takes 1 microsecond to reach us. For most of us, this short delay can be ignored.

Why a failed satellite?

message 1041: by Bernard (new)

Bernard Smith | 3030 comments I think it is the company that failed, not the satellite. I assume the government believes it is a cheap option.
