Actually, Carl's group carried out the one experiment that is critical to deciding whether there will be life on a planet, but I don't think he realised its significance. It will be intreting to see if Anne Druhan has made the link.
The iron vaporises on the hot side and turns into solids on the cold side. So, sooner or later all the iron is on the cold side and it stops hailing iron. No need to halt holiday plans for iron rain.

Mind boggling!
It would make a good book title: Bridget Jones and the Edge of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Probably.

Of course the virus crisis has dampened space activity, like others. But here is a historical post about the asteroid Vestahttps://www.space.com/39251-on-this-d...
The asteroid was named after the Roman goddess, who had the Virgins. Matches were called vestas, in fact some still are, after the eternal fire at her temple.

As the saying has it, the early spacebot beats the grasshopper to the post.More mind-boggling stuff! If the alternative reality has no covid, I am all for it!

Amazing proverb #99
A difficult choice! Even if the alternative reality has no virus, it may have other undesirable features. Perhaps I should be content with this reality, imperfect as it is.

One thing that concerned me about episode 2, which I admit I wasn't watching as closely as i might, Tyson was talking about giant telescopes that looked at other planets in their past (correct in that the light that left did so x years before it got here - "now" is an awkward concept in relativity) then came up with something I could barely believe anyone would say - he talked about travelling to another star system building such a telescope, and looking back at our past, and had pictures of what we call ancient times. That cannot be, unless he was travelling faster than light to get there.
