Completion Post

Shelf: Favorite Author
Book: Serpent's Kiss
Author: Thea Harrison
Series: Elder Races (#3)
Date Finished: 4/1/19
Rating: ★★★★★
How it fits: Shelved 5x; 336 pgs

Review: I skimmed some of the reviews for this book and I am totally confused why so many people were disappointed in this installment. Boring? Not enough romance? Not enough Dragos?

I realize that my rating system is somewhat unreliable for other people's use. If a book evokes a strong emotional/physical response, it's a 5. If I can fully immerse myself in the story, it's a 5. I read primarily for entertainment so, if I am thoroughly entertained, it's a 5. Easy peasy.

When I read anything, I want action, problem-solving and high stakes. I want interesting characters. I am totally cool with hot monkey sex when it makes sense. Serpent's Kiss ticks all of the boxes. (PLUS, important clues are discovered in Louisville, Kentucky, so bonus points for including my home state.)

Thoughts:

~ I really enjoyed Rune & Carling's story. I felt like the main problem of Carling's fading was complex. It took time travel, consulting a medusa, asking a djinn for help, and visiting the Oracle of Delphi to figure out the solution. (ie; totally not boring)

~ I loved that Rune was lovestruck from the moment he saw Carling at the Adriyel River. Like so many other things in this story, "It always happens by the river." And when he kneeled to her ... that kiss!! (ie; totally scorching)

~ Dragos, the pompous ass, continues to be hot-headed, heavy-handed and *surprise* act like an ass. (ie; thank god that there wasn't more Dragos)

~ Python was freaking fantastic! I am looking forward to seeing more of her. We already know that the vampyres, oracles, and medusas are her children.

~ Grace has definitely piqued my interest. Dying to know what got Khalil's attention! Why was he so adamant that he would "sit on the children to make sure they were safe."?

~ I have a soft spot for medusas and I just love Seremela. I hope she takes the job with Rune & Carling and I really hope we see more of her!

I'm glad your mom's well, but glad she's got ya there to help her take it slowly.

I enjoyed that one too. Medusas are so wicked.

Enjoy Guild Hunter, Rocki!

My review is coming up.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Vampire's Faith (Dark Protectors, #8) by Rebecca Zanetti
Vampire's Faith by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Dark Protectors #8
Shelf: Favorite Author (shelved by 3 people)
Read: 30 Mar
Rating: ✮✮✮½

Review:
In Nov 2018, I started binging on Zanetti's Dark Protectors and I haven't stopped. I really, really like this series, so I was thrilled to learn that Marked wouldn't be the end of the series. I was lucky though, I didn't have to wait in-between installments.

Despite my excitement over the series continuation, Vampire's Faith felt as if it could've (and maybe should've) been the start of another spin-off (similar to Realm Enforcers). Nevertheless, I found the intro the world of the secret Seven and what they'll bring to the overall Dark Protectors-verse to be very intriguing. Maybe future installments will more closely knit these together.

As far as the H/h for this installment, I enjoyed reading about Ronan's rediscovery of the world and his relationship with the one he's seen in his dreams. Faith felt a bit TSTL at times, yet I kept reminding myself that I'd do anything for someone I loved as well. Their "courtship" was reminiscent of Talen and Cara's.
“There are seven of us. We make up the shield.”
I'm anxious to see how the next installments continue to connect this group to those we've come to love. While we didn't have a lot of interaction between this group and the others, we did learn more about lil Hope and see a few other characters from the "original" series; a couple of them will play a major part going forward.

Review:
Another great one! Is it bad that I liked all the side stories and not the ones about Heaven mostly, I even enjoyed seeing Baka grow up through the ages even as a murdering vampire. My favorite of course by far is the ones with Elora she is such a strong character its hard not to love reading each scene she is a part of. This book pretty much follows on the heals of the last one, we learn a whole lot of stuff about the whole team. Some people have some DNA in them that they thought couldn't be. It is really hard to talk about a book and not spoil it. Of course we know Elora is pregnant this is the one where she has the baby finally. Waiting to see some scenes as her and Ram trying to tackle this kid together. I am interested to see how the series will move now that we have touched on everyone in the B team pretty much. I do think though that Baka and Heavan's romance time was a little short and felt rushed. I understand why now which really surprised me did not see that one happening, but still. ... Also side note lately I have been reading many books with E names Elora Elana Elaine. I need some other names and now it can't be Liz short for Elizabeth.

I've been a little discouraged by BDB for a while. Maybe it's been the addition of the Legacy spin-off but it feels like forever since the last battle for life or death. The combined series is definitely missing something. (view spoiler)

Anyway, I say that I'm discouraged but guess who pre-ordered the last 3 books and bought the audible copy on day 1??? ---> This girl.

Review: I think i'm spoiled on the more action packed books by Patterson because this one just felt slow. Even the action scenes felt drawn out. I am trying to make my way through all James Patterson's books so it was good that I did read this one. Not really much else I can say about this one. It was just ok.

Review:
Such a great start to the series. Lots of action. Did not see angels being like that, making vampires that is a new take. I of course want to know more about the angels and their venom and now that she is in the position to learn more I think we will be. I also want to still know what happened in Elena's past and what happened to her mother. Which I am hoping to learn as we dig deeper into her life. I have so many questions and no answers I hope doesn't just plan on keeping her hidden the whole time because knowing her that isn't going to sit to well. And why can only another Archangel kill another Archangel? Somethings just don't make sense yet, but it was a good taste of the world for a first book definitely hope it delves deeper into the world.

LOL!! I do the same. I have such a love/hate relationship with that series, but I never fail to buy the book and check hubby's audible credits so I can hopefully get the audio. 🙄😆

Sorry I've been MIA for a couple days. My anni was yesterday and we're about to get a move on to a new spot, so lots keeping me busy IRL at the moment.

I'm reading Magical Compass (Supernatural Prison Story #2) by Jaymin Eve for this week's shelf. And, I hope to stamp cards in a bit. Yay, team! Happy Reading!

Review:
Come here little hunter. Taste... This is now stuck in my head after listening to it constantly two books in a row and surprisingly its not annoying though now I can now tell when its going to be used so I say it out loud when the audio book does. That doesn't make it weird right? Anywhoo we are learning more about the angel sides of things she is just getting used to her wings she has been in a coma but of course comes out fighting. This book of course left me wanting more more of this world more of what happened to Elena, and now what happened to Raphael in his past. He is a little more possessive of her but I think she is strong enough to keep him in his place, she seems possessive as well so maybe they were meant for each other, to each their own. I am glad they are headed back to her friends and what she knows. Now we can see how she interacts with her old life. I mean the angels and vampires at the refuge were great fun but I want to see how she holds up against her old life and her trying to get that back but won't be able to be just like the past. I am waiting for her to deal with her father, see what comes of that.

Review: For the most part, I enjoyed Vampire's Kiss. It was a quick read with good pacing, lots of action and forward momentum. The characters were interesting and the world was intriguing. World building was done well and without an info dump. So, why the 1 star deduction you ask? There are a few things that I detest in a story and this one had them all.

#1.) Repetition - If the author mentions a thing more than 1x, I'm gonna take note that this is an important thing. So, I don't need the thing repeated 6 more times, okay? It's annoying and insulting to me as a reader.

#2.) Love Triangles - Thankfully this one resolved itself pretty quickly but seriously, not even my middle schooler thinks love triangles are cool. Also, It was totally unnecessary to the story.

#3.) Cliffhangers - UUUUGGGGHHHHH. Is there anything more frustrating than a cliff hanger??? No. I don't think so. Fortunately, there is no waiting for the 2nd book in the series AND it was interesting enough to want to continue - otherwise, it would be THE KISS OF DEATH.

Magical Compass by Jaymin Eve
Series: Supernatural Prison Story
Shelf: vampires-werewolves (shelved by 1 person)
Read: 7 Apr
Rating: ✮✮✮½

Review:
Your pack cannot be divided. Divided will fall. Together will soar.
Magical Compass tells the story of Tyson Compass and Grace Carter. Tyson, along with his quad brothers who are each a different species of supernatural, leads the magic users. "His quad brothers, Maximus, Braxton, and Jacob, are the vampire, shifter, and fey leaders." Grace is a healer witch and Tyson's mate. They've known each other since they were young, but it's only now that Tyson's ready to claim her as his mate. The only problem is, two months ago she asked him to give her time, he hasn't been able to find her. He's tried everything - calling friends and reaching out magically - and it's like she's disappeared. He and Jacob set off to find her. He has a feeling she's in trouble and that proves to be true.

This was a good addition to the series. I admit I enjoyed the Supernatural Prison series better than those of this spin-off (so far), but it is nice seeing each member of the pack find their mate and grow into their own.
