Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph, Sandra or Judithe) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Hi team!
Glad to start again! I think I've been playing since round 4 and missed only couple of rounds so it's obviously my favorite team challenge here :)

message 8: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I have captained several rounds and don't mind doing it again. But I also have no problem whatsoever if someone else want to do it this round.

I'm drawing a blank on names at the moment.

message 9: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Good morning team. Love this game. Hate having to come up with a name. :D We could always just be the No Names.

Let's hope Carrie is a genius at names.

Thanks for volunteering for captain Mary. I'm happy to just be a regular player this round.

message 10: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments I'm ok with Mary taking the captain duties, too.

Names are not my thing also but we must have one anyway so there are some I came up with -

Fifth Element
Fifth Avenue Window Shoppers
Five In A Row = Bingo

Maybe Carrie will have some better ideas :)

message 11: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I messaged Carrie to let her know teams are up. Hopefully she just didn't notice that they were posted.

message 12: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I tend to get hung up on using the # in the name. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just never think of anything else.

Five Alive?

message 13: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments Hi. so sorry for not checking in before now, I never had a notification for the teams. And Mary thank you so much for messaging.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments Names hmm

Five by Five?

message 15: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments They didn't send a notice so that's why I messaged-just in case.

I always feel like a pest if I message.

message 16: by Allison Ann (last edited Mar 13, 2019 10:11AM) (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments The only people who will think you a pest are flakes. Anyone else will be glad you got ahold of them for the reminder. :D

I like Five In A Row best of the choices I think. But the others are all fine too. I personally don't like Babes or Chicks or things like that in a team name, but everything else is cool. We could be Turkey Watermelon Microplaner and I'd be fine with that too. :D Even though I don't like turkey.

message 17: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments I'm good with any name.

It's the microplaner isn't it? Hard to resist a microplaner! :D

I think Five in a Row is still my first number choice. With Chapter Five as second.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments What time zone is everyone in?

message 25: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm in Massachusetts so EST. The shelf call will come around 7pm my time. I am usually at Aqua Zumba that time on Wed. But I'm willing to play hookie and stay home and read if we get winning shelf call at some point.

message 26: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments I'm in NW Ontario, Canada, so CST. I'll be at work for shelf call, so I can check in easily.

message 27: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Remember, you can start your free space book as soon as the first shelf call is made.

My free space book will be:

The Silenced (Krewe of Hunters, #15) by Heather Graham

It's on the group bookshelf.

I like to get my free space book out of the way early if I can. All shelves must be completed to win even if they aren't part of the actual BINGO.

message 28: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Is everyone good with Five in a Row and me as captain? I don't want to assume. I have captained several times and really don't mind letting someone else do it if they want. But no one has said anything.

message 29: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments I'm good with Mary taking captain duties and with name.

I'm in Europe and the shelf call will be in the middle of the night for me at 1 AM, I guess. Bummer.

message 30: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments I'm happy with the name and you being captain. Thanks Mary.

I usually read a Southern Vampire Mysteries for the Free Space. Not sure what number I'm up to now, but I will figure it out tonight.

message 31: by Mary X (last edited Mar 13, 2019 01:16PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Does anyone have a shelf that concerns them and where they think they might want to use one of the alternate options?

The only one I, personally, am concerned about is the 2018 Most Anticipated Reads. Mostly because of availability from library of the few that I am interested in on that one. Seems like a lot of YA on that shelf, which I don't normally care for much and later books in series I haven't started yet. I found a couple of stand alone books that interest me but they have wait lists at my library, on which I am working my way up.

message 32: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments I have gone through all the shelves and picked out 2-3 choices for each. I can guarantee that when the shelf is actually called, 99% of the time I will pick something completely different. :) But I don't think I'll need the alternate at all.

message 33: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I do the same thing. But at least I know if I need to get in line for a library book if I don't have much for a particular shelf.

Plus it helps kill the time while waiting for the game to start.

message 34: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments Newfoundland time for me, so when call are made it'll be 8:30 or later if they are running late.

message 35: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments First shelf is Dark Urban Fantasy. On my phone so can’t link.

message 36: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments I'll be reading A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1) by Sarah J. Maas for Free Space. On Group Bookshelf.

Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles, #1) by Ilona Andrews for Dark Urban Fantasy shelf

message 37: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments I'm going with Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton

message 38: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments For Dark Urban Fantasy I will be reading:

Venom (Elemental Assassin, #3) by Jennifer Estep

message 39: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Selection Post

Dark Urban Fantasy - Turn Coat (The Dresden Files, #11) by Jim Butcher - 420 pages - shelved 1 time

Free Space - Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris - 335 pages - #6 on Best of UF series

How weird, both my books are #11 in series!

I'm kind of confused why this book was written and is a part of this series. For me this is just a filler and a place holder for pleasing hardcore fans of ACOTAR series. Nothing happens, story doesn't develop and move forward or even focus on specific story line as in-between books in series usually do. It's really more like oversized epilogue to book 3.

My expectations are higher for book #4. Looks like it's going to be Nesta's story and I'm good with it. The less Feyre, the better.

Wow! I'm so impressed. Ilona Andrews has done it again and it's even better than Kate Daniels series.
I just loved everything about this book - world building, creatures from another planets, magic of Inn and the main characters Dina, Sean and Arland. So much fun, good humor and a very unique approach to weres and vamps with their alien origins. Half star bonus for fun fact that one of those ancient vampire clans had my last name :) Ha, I have always suspected that the pull towards everything vampire is not without a reason :) :) :)

Shelf: Dark Urban Fantasy
Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Book: Circus of the Damned by Laurell K. Hamilton
Read: March 16th
Rating: 3 stars
Review: I liked it...I didn't love it.

This novel didn't have a lot of slow moments , events happened bang bang bang which for me was good. I don't think I could have handled Anita if she was given enough alone or downtime then I would have had to deal with her mind. And honestly at this stage in the game, 3 books in is only early but I'm not a big fan of the character. Or the characters.

The story over all is interesting, and the actions scenes are attention holding. I'm hoping as time goes on the characters develop better and become more likable.

Also holy dated....driving around to find a payphone..."gag me with a spoon"... oh the good ol'days..

Edited to say I just noticed the first 2 books I gave 4 stars...I hope the drop in stars isn't going to be a start in the decline of this series...if so that is a shame as it's such a long one.

Will I read on?
Yes....I did buy a nice chunk of these like 13 years ago...new at that...besides it's a long series, Anita has to get better right??

How Does It Fit: #6 on Best of UF Series
Read: 3/16/19
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I think back to the first few books in this series and to how much I didn't like Sookie but loved all the secondary characters. Now flash to book #11 and I love Sookie but don't particularly like how anyone else treats her. I get protective of my book faves. Sorry Sookie, people kind of suck. You should probably stop being so nice to most of them. Definitely stop letting them live in your house.

message 46: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments You guys are doing great. I am half way through my free space. It’s a library book. I own my dark fantasy book so I put that one 2nd.

Just an FYI that I tend to be on more during weekdays. I work on a computer all day and then don’t feel like using one at nights and weekends.

message 47: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 414 comments Did everyone have a good weekend? Didn't do too much reading myself - family dinner, birthday party, etc, etc. Plus on Friday night my BBQ set my hair on fire when I lit it. :D I got a little singed but I still have my eyesbrows, so yay! I hope nobody else caught on fire. I'm going to veg out and read my book now.
