@Leena. - Yeah pdfdrive is great, but I don't find some of the recent releases there. For classics, there's no turning back from it. For Kindle Unlimited, even I haven't heard any great things about it.

Will check out Scribd and Z-lib. Thanks for the suggestion.

I found 7-10 very tiring and full of fillers. Two books could easily have covered what was stretched to 4 books. But if you survive that dull phase, awesomeness awaits you in next four books. :)

message 361: by Palash (new)

Palash (naikon) | 19 comments Yeah. I am also finding book 8 hard to get through. I actually planned to start book 8 in December, but the prologue and initial chapters kept putting me off. And from what I hear, its going to get worse in book 9-10.
By the way, I didn't find book 7 to be sloggish and enjoyed it. Infact, book 6 was very sloggy to me(except final 20% part).

Just started with The Serial Killer Wife by Alice Hunter. Part of reading the German month JANUAR challenge.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Finished Rogue Protocol and The Three-Body Problem. Both were sci-fi but very different worlds.
Have enjoyed them and added their next installments to my TBR.

Will now start The Thursday Murder Club, the BOTM.

message 369: by Makrand (new)

Makrand | 1353 comments Leena, I agree on everything that you wrote above about The Butterfly Garden. Tragedic and thrilling however the same cannot be said about the second book in the series.
Unfortunately it was so bad for me that I abandoned the series and decided not to tread on that path again. As if it's not written by Dot
1st book is marvellous

message 370: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I don't think I would have the midspan for bk2. The second bk being terrible is not unique to this series only. I'd read If You Say Yes by Neha Yazmin- and it was brilliant. Bk 2 I couldn't ‍get through 50 pages. I was so looking forward to it, the plot , change in personalities of the main characters was all so devastatingly disappointing

This has been interesting read for me.
Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

So objectively, this is a good book no doubt. But there're few things which didnot sit well with me. But owing to the times ( specifically Norway ) during which it was published, I do understand why the content is so. The author doesn't name the guilty and confusing feelings of the girls. Was it to protect the book, so that it reaches majority of the audience or was it because the author himself felt that it's "something" that can be cured or released in this case.

Again, I don't hate it, far from it. That’s why, didn't rate it as of now.

I'm not mentioning specific details because it might be a spoiler. But you can give it a try if you have time and it's pretty short.

Went on to add three books to my current read shelf. hopefully will wrap up few by next weekend.

Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry and The Yearbook, I love reading light reads on weekend.

Dark Sacred Night, loved the first book.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Do let know whenever you happen to read. It'll incite a good discussion. :)

Good to have few lighter and happier reads actually. Hope you have fun.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Ive started reading The Orange Girl by Jostein Garder. Its such sweet, endearing story. Do give it a try both of you. Its set in Norway too.

message 385: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Currently reading Bag of Bones and 11/22/63, both by Stephen King. I am finding both of them very boring. I just don't like his style of writing. I like intelligent witty conversations, some humour or info dump like in Sci-fi books to get going. None of them were present in both the books. I will read upto 100 pages and DNF them if still uninteresting.

Leena, it's not working out :-(

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Austin- go back to Pet Semetary/ Carrie. you can wave sleep bye bye. And his Dark Tower Series..

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Thanks for the recommendation @Leena.
Just finished The Orange Girl. I liked it and it was the feel good book which I actually needed. Was bit predictable but I had no problem with it. Infact, happy to know the identity of The Orange Girl. :)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I'm going to start Exit Strategy. Excited as this is the final installment in the murderbot diaries. I believe, there're books after this one as well but they are like full-length standalone novels of our very own bot.

And then there's Dune, which is waiting in my tbr since ages. Hopefully I'll pick it up this weekend. We shall see.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments you know, my daughter will be happiest to know that you've not only read but liked the Orange Girl. it's really her insistence that's made me read it. She just cried off an entire tissue box.

message 391: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I actually loved his Sophies world and Solitaire Mystery. I like his writing style and the orange girl has just the quirky ,teenage feel to it.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I finished off my As in JANUAR
A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole is brilliant.
Anything but a Gentleman was bk 10 in an ongoing series and a big disappointment. so, this weekend just about evened off.

@Leena. That's so sweet. :) It's so good to see a her picking such reads. Usually most of the teenage/young adults gravitate towards fast paced thrillers.
quick question - till what age do we specify young adults? 22/25?

The concept of the book is good. I was at one point irritated with Georg in the beginning as he didn't seem to appreciate what he had got. Because, in real life, I would have loved to receive such a letter. At the end, he made up for it though.

Regarding the space, I have very less physical books because of the space crunch. So, now I just read the e-version. I do buy physical books but have cut down on the number based on how big they are. (Example: Say greater than 600 pages or so --> physical; else e-version)

Fifth as in the Network Effect? Yeah, I thought so too but it says standalone novel in GR premise.

I do see same characters in the character list. Also looked at sixth one, yeah they have linked it as Murderbot diaries 6.

So I stand corrected, reading fourth installment not the final.
That's good news. :)
