I love a change of pace, too, Marianne. As long as you enjoy what you are reading!

Too open ended and missing details for me, but I think some other readers would really enjoy :)

I like to think of this type of book as the equivalent of comfort food. As long as it's a good, well written story and fills a niche, why not enjoy it!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments The Nancys is the debut novel by NZ-born Aussie-resident author, R.W.R. Mcdonald. Plenty of black humour and a heart-warming finish, but a generous number of expletives for those sensitive to that.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Well, I'm definitely late to the party with Lucy Treloar's debut novel, Salt Creek, but, wow, I can see what all the fuss was about! She's certainly set the bar high for her next novel Wolfe Island, which is close to the top of my TBR pile now.

Jeanette | 400 comments The Boy With Blue Trousers by Carol Jones

As a young woman of 23 I travelled to Hong Kong and with my Chinese friends drove to the border of Communist China. Reading this book brought back these memories, the Chinese side then was nothing but a waste land, this is in the vicinity of the Pearl River which today in only 51 years is a thriving modern city of 60 million people. What a remarkable transition China has made.

Jeanette, I didn't remember I'd already liked your review so went to it just now and noticed that someone commented last year. You might like to acknowledge them! I get so annoyed when Goodreads doesn't let me know if someone has commented so I can thank people or have a conversation.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I enjoyed my fifth visit to the lovely Canadian village of Three Pines, which has the occasional, not-so-lovely murder. Another good mystery from Louise Penny.
