Read-a-Thon #4 - Team 3 Group Discussion
Just wanted to say hello to everyone! It is almost 11 pm here in DE, so I will be heading to bed so I can get to reading! I missed the last read a thon, but have participated in many of the others. I thank Chrissy for being team leader! I am currently starting off with The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton. I am no where near done the ATY challenge, so I can help out there. I unfortunately do not listen to audiobooks, and I am not big on nonfiction. Other than that, I am psyched for this holiday read a thon!!
Hello everyone! I am based in Asia so it is already the 22nd morning here and I have started reading. I will be reading only ATY challenge books because I am quite behind. Today my goal is to try to finish the 300 remaining pages of Ulysses 😬
Hi everyone! Tomorrow morning I’ll get a spreadsheet going and post a link here. If you want to “claim” a category for something you’ll be finishing soon, I can pencil you in. Update this thread when you finish something.Go team!
Good morning, team! Looking forward to read great books with all of you 😊 I am currently listening to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which I’m reading for the ATY water prompt. So that can be one of the books for #22. It can fit several other categories as well, for instance #7. I am currently on chapter 3, so have most of the book left.
Michelle, good luck with Ulysses, you can do it! 👍That book really doesn’t sound tempting this time of year (or any other time, lol) 😅
Hello team. I am currently reading War and Peace for the AtY challenge. I will be reading mostly books for the AtY challenge because I am behind and trying to catch up. Good luck to everyone
Good morning team! My Christmas food order is arriving this morning but as soon as that is put away I'll get to reading. I'm currently reading Kingdom of Ash which will take a few days.
Thank you, Hilde! I have 180 pages left in it so I’m hoping to finish it soon! Best of luck to Ira too with War and Peace!
Just a heads up that prompt 7 has been corrected to: Read a book with a character born after 2000 (child main character)
Good morning! I am the newest addition to this team (5 minutes ago!) This is my first read-a-thon even though it's my third year participating in ATY. I am currently reading Out of Africa. I am on page 76 of 416. I'm not finished the ATY challenge, and this book is for one of those prompts.
It also fits for several read-a-thon prompts:
11. Read a book that you borrowed from the library
18. Read a book set in a country different from your own
20. Read a non-fiction book
or
23. A book by a new author (one you haven't read before)
Christmas is not a busy time for me, and I have two weeks off work. I am looking forward to getting as much reading in as I can!
Enjoy War and Peace (I really liked it!) and Ulysses (I abandoned it earlier this year, but hope to pick it up again next year!)
OK, here's our spreadsheet:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
I'm in the middle of 2 books, both of which can count when I finish:
The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories and Mirage.
Has anyone done today's "game" yet? (Kick-off)
I did the kick off post earlier so you can tick that off. I'm not sure my current book counts for anything other than pages. Oops.
Chrissy wrote: "OK, here's our spreadsheet:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I did the kick off post too.
I finished The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories, 109 pages count for the readathon. I could count it for either 11 or 23, is anyone close to one of these prompts?
Do pages read count before the book is finished? I've read 335 pages of Kingdom of Ash today but only about half way through it.
I am currently reading Einstein's Theories of Relativity and Gravitation which would count for nonfiction. I am also reading Memoirs of a Geisha and Attainment which fit a couple different tasks. My audiobook is Anansi Boys.
Hello team 3! I've been busy reading so I'm sorry for not checking in sooner. Jennifer, I love Anansi Boys! 1) I read one children'picture book: Sea Prayer
2) I read Edith Wharton's Afterward: A Ghost Story for Christmas. It's got a blue and purple cover or it could be used for finished in one sitting.
3) I read The Perfect Christmas - This could work for 23) a new to you author, 5) a reject prompt - romance, or 11) a library book
4) I'm going to finish Calypso tonight - a non fiction (it's due back to the library tomorrow before they open)
5) Completed the kick off!
Day one #s:
4.25 hours of audio (232 pages for that book)
48 + 64 + 259 = 371 pages
My day has been crazy, so I haven't done as much reading as I would have liked. I just wanted to check in. I am going to go continue reading The Clockmaker's Daughter now, and check in with a page count in the am.
I just had to chuckle that Jennifer is reading Einstein's Theories of Relativity and Gravitation, Michelle is reading Ulysses, and Ira is reading War and Peace while I just finished The Perfect Christmas (which had to be the craptastically worst book I've ever read)!
Didn't get to read as much as I planned today, but still made a pretty good start. I read 150 pages of Keep Me Posted, which is for the ATY prompt "A book published in the last 3 years by an author you haven't read before." I'm expecting to finish it early tomorrow.
I did it!!!! I finished Ulysses! And with that, I have read a total of 338 pages so far in the readathon. You can count Ulysses as an ATY challenge book (item #22).
Am I being a bit dim? Are we meant to update the spreadsheet ourselves? Because I only have view access not edit and I see other people's pages have been updated but not mine?
Ellie wrote: "Am I being a bit dim? Are we meant to update the spreadsheet ourselves? Because I only have view access not edit and I see other people's pages have been updated but not mine?"I think just Chrissy is updating it. I only have the view access. Perhaps she just missed you update?
Sorry Ellie, I’ll get your pages in there. I thought your message indicated you would report back when you finished the book.
Tammy wrote: "I just had to chuckle that Jennifer is reading Einstein's Theories of Relativity and Gravitation, Michelle is reading Ulysses, and Ira is reading War and Peace while I just finished The Perfect Chr..."Lol, me too as I am reading Narnia at the moment 😅
Michelle wrote: "I did it!!!! I finished Ulysses! And with that, I have read a total of 338 pages so far in the readathon. You can count Ulysses as an ATY challenge book (item #22)."You did it!! Congrats, that’s an awesome achievement 🥳🎉 So many in this group reading Ulysses this year, I’m impressed. I’m not even a little compelled to pick it up. Maybe one day 🤞🏻
Laura wrote: "Your board has been updated :)"Thanks, Laura:) Next time you pop by, could you please be so kind as to link the excel to the first post? So much easier to find as I am only on GR through phone for the vacation.
Hi team. It has been a busy weekend but I am making progress with war and peace. I have read 400 pages so far. My copy is 994 pages, so I have some way to go. I think I will listen to The Book Thief, when I need a break from War and Peace
Sorry team, little next to nothing to update from my end. It’s Christmas prepping, family gatherings and socialising on the agenda right now. And tomorrow is the big day, so no reading guaranteed then as well. After that, it should slow down a bit at least. You can add 1 hour of audio and 30 pages read from me, Chrissy. Excellent work from the rest of the team though! 👏🏻
Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🤶🏻☃️
When I finish war and peace it can count for 18. Read a book set in a country different from your own
22. Read 6 books that count for the AtY challenge (max 2 per member) or
23. A book by a new author (one you haven't read before)

Thank you!!! I do feel quite accomplished. Having so many members in the group reading it kept me motivated to finish it.
These are the next books I have planned next and the reading tasks they could fulfill. They are also all ATY challenge books.
- Beautiful cover? When Breath Becomes Air - non fiction book
Laura wrote: "Your board has been updated :)"Today we finished squares 23 and 11.
I finished Mirage, so I am ready to start my final AtY book of the year tomorrow! And the audiobook hold I had for my final Read Harder book unexpectedly came in today too, so I will be able to contribute at least a few hours there.
Tally for Dec 23:Listened 2.25 hours (Mad About The Boy);
Read 87 pages (Out of Africa)
Congrats Michelle on finishing Ulysses!!
I finished Keep Me Posted (155 pages today), and read 139 (kind of a frustrating number, lol!) pages of Nineteen Minutes. I also did the Grinch Book Tag. I think I forgot to mention that I did the Kick-Off post yesterday as well, but not sure if that counts as a game.So far, I've read a total of 444 pages overall, and Keep Me Posted was a book for ATY.
Ok I am here to report in for the 23rd! So far I have read 103 pages of the Clockmaker's Daughter. I don't know how we are taking the "chilly" prompt, but if we are meaning spooky- then we could count this for it since the whole book centers around hauntings.I also started
today. I figured we could use that for our snow on the cover prompt. It is a super easy read. I am 136 pages into that one. Well it just turned Christmas Eve here, but I know some of you are ahead, so for everyone who celebrates- Merry Christmas! 👼🎅🎄
Hello!! I have started & finished “Dot Journaling” (I’m on my phone & can’t link the book). It’s nonfiction & 221 pages.
Finished Environmentally Friendly in one sitting. It also fits the novella task i believe. Page count today is 19.
Let's see...I read The Humbling and Lord of the Flies today (2nd reading...1st time was about 35 years ago).I completed my max 9 hours of audio and now I'll just count straight pages.
140 pages + 90 pages = 250 pages
4.75 hours audio
Update for the 23rd:270 pages read of Kingdom of Ash
0.5 hours listened of The Silent Companions.
(Running total 605 pages)
Kingdom of Ash will actually work for cold or chilly atmosphere (when I finish) if no one else is working on that one. Lots of snow and ice mentioned.
Your board has been updated and there is a link to the spreadsheet in the bottom of the first post :)
