SOLVED. Dystopia novel about a group of teenagers trying to escape a fallen society. [s]

Sometime over the last 6 years I read a book and I can't for the life of me remember the title or author.

From what I can remember, Children in school are forced to eat meat (possibly human?). This meat turns people into something vicious.

I can't remember whether the main character is a boy or girl but they have a father that helps them escape this society.

The character runs into a group of other kids and then end up on a boat and are in search of a waterfall that will lead them to a paradise of riches. The kids the main character runs into talk about a man they call The Scientist (i think) and The Scientist ends up being the main character's father.

One part of the book I remember quite vividly is a part where a group of people that these kids are trying to escape launch something at their boat and it gets caught. The main characted ends up swimming down to unlodge it, allowing them to escape.

I know that's not a lot of information but I'm desperate to find this book.

I'm not 100% sure. Neither the synopsis, title, or author ring a bell but The Hunt's main character's name definitely does. It also seems like there might be a character called The Scientist. I'll give it a read as soon as I can and update this post if it is the book I am looking for. Thank you for the reccomendations!
