I'd love to never make another writing mistake.

That seems unlikely, though, as I make them every time I touch the keyboard. It's a hassle of course, but the reality is that all those howlers and blunders have been gold in terms of developing better work.

That said, I try to take longer in the planning stages these days, to avoid running into road blocks and dead ends once the writing itself begins. I avoid embarking on ideas that don't absolutely fascinate me. In the writing itself, I try to be less visible and let the story be the strongest voice.

Because I've wasted so much energy on doubt, rage and frustration over the years, I've learnt that suffering doesn't help the process. Writing ought to be a happy process, right? So, I'm still working on that...

Joseph’s Recent Updates

Joseph D'Lacey and 1 other person liked Marcus Turner's review of Meat:
Meat by Joseph D'Lacey
"Holy shit! What a book! Grotesque, disturbing, but a fantastic example of why horror is far above the "low genre" status with which it is often prescribed. Although at times it could be seen to be preachy, the story and pace overwhelm that, but there" Read more of this review »
La brigada de la muerte by Joseph D'Lacey
"Una novela donde lo importante no es la acción sino el aspecto psicológico que da. En especial en el último tramo, cerró bastante bien a mi parecer."

"I am not big on dystopian books in general, but this one got to me. I won’t include any spoilers, but I will say that as a father to a newborn and all of the horrific implications in this book I think I will switch to a vegetarian diet "

Deep wisdom!

A total surprise and an absolute delight. There's so much to learn and appreciate here, not just about comics, but about all forms of art, psychology and communication. Loved it.

More of Joseph's books…
“The Earth was not dead. She had been sick, yes, weakened by an infestation. Now she was ridding herself of it. For those who remained alive the choice was a simple one, whether they realised it yet or not: Work with the land-- respect it and give back to it-- or die.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers

“I never told you this enough- it's a failing between all men, I think, but too often of fathers to their sons- I love you. When you came into the world, you brought me a new purpose and a new drive. Suddenly , I was not just a parent, I was a guardian too.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers

“He couldn't think of his robbed left eye without hate squirting into his veins from some deep poison gland he hadn't known he possessed.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers
