I LOVED The Sun is Also a Star, but it wouldn't work for this prompt since Nicola Yoon doesn't have a "T" in her name.

You could use that book for the astronomical prompt though.

message 53: by Melinda (new)

I haven't read her before, and this is her memoir.

I haven't even made a plan yet. I just started this book and saw it would fit this prompt. Now at least I have one prompt figured out!

message 60: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie (bonnie_poole) | 23 comments Oops I made a mistake... Anthony Doerr book would be About Grace or another book of his... I already read All the Light We Cannot See. Anyways not Rules of Civility as that’s by Amor Towles which I do hope to read this year.

Angela | 389 comments I’m reading Nine Perfect Strangers, by Liane Moriarty.

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

I’ve read a number of her books recently, and I’m looking forward to this one.

message 64: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments I'm hoping to go with a Liane Moriarty one for this one but EVERY SINGLE one of her books have fairly substantial holds on them at my library ... so will give it another week or so and see if one comes in or I can snag one on an express read, but otherwise will have to rethink.

Wend (wends) | 50 comments What are you reading for this category? Naomi's Room by Jonathan Aycliffe by Jonathan Aycliffe

Have you read the author's books before? No, searched through author's on my tbr list alphabetically. Haven't selected Anthony Horowitz as have the first 3 in the series and do not need to start a new series just yet, if you know what i mean. A few to finish first, this is an author I know nothing about, again bought back in 2016.

Well, this one can get into your mind. Definitely not for a late night read.

Raising steam isn't the last book, The Shepherd's Crown is and it's awesome although tissues should be sold with it

message 67: by LukasmummyReads (last edited Jan 07, 2019 05:24AM) (new)

LukasmummyReads (lukasmummy) | 25 comments Also can't believe nobody has mentioned the brilliant Jodi Taylor for this challenge, all of them are good in their own ways. The Chronicles Of St Mary's are my favourite and there is a new one coming out later this year, the Elizabeth Cage books intriguing unfortunately there is only 2 so far (Dark Light and White Silence) and the Frogmorton Farm set are sweet.

message 68: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3839 comments Lizzy- I have started The Sympathizer twice but keep putting it down and not finishing it! The beginning (during the fall of Saigon) is really interesting. I started losing interest in the US scenes. I’ll probably pick it up again, though. I liked the writing.

message 69: by LukasmummyReads (last edited Jan 07, 2019 10:26AM) (new)

LukasmummyReads (lukasmummy) | 25 comments Oh and Brittany Cavallaro would also work for this challenge if you like Sherlock Holmes style books, the Charlotte Holmes series is really good

Thanks Pam. I think I will give it a try, and see how it goes. I always have William Styron's The Confessions of Nat Turner on my shelf at home for a backup if I get bogged down.

LukasmummyReads (lukasmummy) | 25 comments - What are you reading for this category? Stormbreaker
- Have you read the author's books before? No, I picked it because my 9 year old is reading it as part of their class reading, I like to listen to what they are reading so I can talk about the story with him.

message 78: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 119 comments - What are you reading for this category?

I read All the Light We Cannot See for a book club, and realized that Anthony has ATY in it which made it an easy fit. I was kind of annoyed by this prompt when it won because I thought it'd be a tricky one to search for unless I stumbled on it, so luckily I stumbled on it fast.

- Have you read the author's books before?

Nope, only read it at all because it was a book club pick. I enjoyed it much more than expected.

message 79: by Taryn Elizabeth (new)

Taryn Elizabeth (telizabethxo) | 15 comments Listened to The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish.

Loved it. My mom recommend it. I don't usually do non fiction but I gave this one a shot. It was great. I know there's some speculation on how factual it actually is but either way it's interesting. I'd bet audio book is the way to go though as Tiffany adds flair to the story.

message 80: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments What are you reading for this category?
The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz

Have you read the author's books before?
No. However, the book is based on the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books and I’ve read a few Sherlock Holmes stories before which is what prompted me to choose this book.

message 81: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) I read Black Rain. I had it as it was a free e-book and fit this category. I have never read this author before, but this was an interest book.

message 82: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Staude Read “Station 11” by Emily St. John Mandel for this rule.

message 83: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (prairielily) | 177 comments I just finished The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. I really enjoy the different points of view and how some chapters are just little snippets of information. This is too mature for me to bring into my grade 7 classroom.

I read her other book Everything, Everything on the recommendation of my students. It was really good and appropriate for a slightly younger audience.

What are you reading for this category?
The Nest by Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney

Have you read the author's books before?
Nope, and it doesn't look like she's come out with anything since this novel. I enjoyed the writing, but the storyline and characters were a bit too shallow for my taste.

message 85: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 59 comments I just found this group and just this morning finished the book “A Hat full of Sky” by Terry Pratchett so the timing works- I’m only a couple days early!

Jude the Obscure

Have you read the author's books before?
I've read Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Far From the Madding Crowd and Jude was my favorite. It's still horribly depressing and makes you want to give up on humanity. Nice light read to start the year.

message 88: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments For this topic I read Wildfire at Midnight by Mary Stewart. It's a murder mystery published in 1956 with all of the melodrama and gender roles that typified that time period. It was reasonably well written and readable but ultimately forgettable. I chose this book because I enjoyed the author's Arthurian Saga and wanted to read something else by her.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Have you read the author's books before?
Yes, I've read After I Do. I have all her others on my TBR, but Seven Husbands was the best reviewed. It did not disappoint. Loooooooooved it.

message 91: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1060 comments I read The Unlikely Heroics of Sam Holloway by Rhys Thomas.

I've never read anything by him before, but I've added his other books to my "to get" list. It made me laugh and it made me cry, which is my standard for a great book.

message 92: by MN (new)

MN (mnfife) I read A.S. Byatt, The Biographer's Tale. It had been on my TBR shelf for years. I don't know why it took me so long to get round to reading it as I've read, and enjoyed, a lot of A.S. Byatt's novels.

message 93: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta | 207 comments I read Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley. It was... good, I guess? Was kinda conflicted about it.
I hadn't read Robin Talley before. I'll be reading some more of her books though - already have Pulp on my Kindle.

message 94: by Nancy (new)
