The Kingdom of Copper as soon as it comes out on Tuesday!

message 102: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I listened to A Darkness Absolute by Kelley Armstrong. I

This is an author I've read before primarily her Urban Fantasy series Women of the Otherworld. This series is more crime fiction and it is pretty good.

Alexx (dinosaurslayeggs) | 136 comments What are you reading for this category?
I am going to be reading Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Have you read the author's books before?
I haven't. My sister recommended this book to me, and I also saw the movie when it was out in cinemas and really liked it so I'm looking forward to reading it!

Sara (phantomswife) - What are you reading for this category?
Cage of Stars by Jacquelyn Mitchard
- Have you read the author's books before?
I read and really enjoyed The Deep End of the Ocean, unfortunately this one did not live up to that.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 452 comments What are you reading for this category?
Traveling with Pomegranates: A Mother and Daughter Journey to the Sacred Places of Greece, Turkey, and France, by Sue Monk Kidd and Ann Kidd Taylor

Have you read the author's books before?
None by either of the authors. I had heard of Sue's books, but not of any by Ann (who fills this prompt). I'd be interested to try them out, but I have a huge TBR as it is!

Review Long, so I've put some of it under the spoiler tag. No real spoilers though!
At 34, I am both too young to relate to Sue's stage of life and too old to do anything more than give a wry smile to the worries of Ann. I also really dislike books about what I inelegantly term as "rich people problems." Two reasons why I shouldn't have enjoyed this joint memoir of a mother and daughter over analysing their relationships and careers as they swan about historic sites in Greece and France. And maybe enjoy is the wrong word, but something kept me reading. (view spoiler) The book gave me the chance to lose myself in travel of a sort that I doubt I'll be experiencing myself any time soon. And has made me realise that I really want a glass pomegranate charm...

I just finished The Shepherd's Crown (Discworld, #41; Tiffany Aching, #5) by Terry Pratchett The Shepherd's Crown

- Have you read the author's books before?

yes. I love Terry Pratchett's work and this one was no exception.

message 109: by Jeimy (new)

Jeimy (wanderingbookaneer) I read Wade in the Water: Poems by Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith. This is the first book I read by this author.

message 110: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments I ended up reading What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty for this one. I've read a couple of her more recent books and find them a pretty easy read and this one was as well. I thought the concept of it quite interesting - imagine if you forgot a decade of your life - what would you think of your life now versus how you thought it would turn out? Especially between the ages of 30 and 40 when so much big stuff happens.

message 111: by Adam (new)

Adam Smith (chaos624) | 1197 comments Reading Will Save the Galaxy for Food by Yahtzee Croshaw.

I’ve read a couple of his books and always love his snarky humour. If you haven’t seen his game reviews at Zero Punctuation, you are really missing out.

Candice Tracy wrote: "I know I've asked this question before and I KNOW theres a crazy diagram out there somewhere showing you ways to start but in what order do all of you recommend reading [author:Terry Pratchett|1654..."

Forget the diagram and read them chronologically. It’s simple and you know you’re meeting the characters in the order they were introduced. I love his books!

Rose (rosew77) | 67 comments Read Bombay Time by Thrity Umrigar
This is my 5th Thrity Umrigar book.

message 114: by Stacey (last edited Feb 05, 2019 09:56AM) (new)

Stacey D. | 1908 comments So many fit the bill here, but I decided to go with a quick read that had been on my TBR, The Emissary by Yōko Tawada, which won several literary awards in 2018. Love the cover, too! Although I've never read any of the author's other works, I'm liking this strange little dystopian parable so far, and will look out for more of her interestingly quirky books in the future.

message 115: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Banks (jasxnicole) Going with The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton for this one.

It's been on my TBR for a while now and the combination of Marie Antoinette and magic is really intriguing to me.

Irene, I wish I could tell you that I loved this one, but it ultimately fell flat. It had good intentions, but the story was simply all over the place and the ending was disappointing. Oh well.

message 118: by Nathalie (last edited Feb 09, 2019 11:05AM) (new)

Nathalie (natjen29) | 19 comments I've chosen Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy.

I've read quite a few books of him before. The famous ones such as The Road by Cormac McCarthy and No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy . But beside those I also read The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy and Outer Dark by Cormac McCarthy .

I enjoy his sparse language and phenomenal settings. So looking forward to read this one!

message 121: by Janell (new)

Janell | 57 comments Ok, new here, so still trying to figure out how this works. I read Always Faithful: A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII by William Putney. When I click on "add book/author" it doesn't show up. Do I need to do the A to Z thing?

Anyway, I found this book because over the holidays we went to the WWII museum in New Orleans, and they give you a "dog tag" so you can follow somoene who was in WWII through the museum ... and my randomly assigned dog tag was from William Putney. When I found out he'd written a book, and noticed that his name included A, T, & Y, I decided to read it for this.

I finally finished my 3rd book for this challenge ( it only took me 2 months!!)

If I Could Turn Back Time by Nicola Doherty
If I Could Turn Back Time by Nicola Doherty

Have you read the author's books before?
I had never heard of her, but this was a really cute book where a 20 something has broken up with her boyfriend and accidentally goes back in time and gets the chance to try the relationship all over ( as well as her career). It was VERY predictable, but super light and fluffy and I really enjoyed it once I got into it. 3 stars though, because the last chapter killed it. Glad I came across it though.

Thanks so much for mentioning this one! I had totally forgotten that this author's name fits this prompt and since I absolutely adored Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda when I read it last fall, I now own the sequel, Leah on the Offbeat and really want to read it! Thanks again!!

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) I read They Met at Shiloh by Phillip Bryant for this week.

It was an interesting book from the viewpoints of both armies during the Civil War.

I have not read any other books by this author, but plan on reading more.

*Am reading FIRST DARLING OF THE MORNING: SELECTED MEMORIES OF AN INDIAN GIRLHOOD by Thrity Umigar

- Have you read the author's books before?
*Yes. Her THE SPACE BETWEEN US is a particular favorite of mine. That was many years ago, but I think I also read one other book by her, but cannot recall the title right now. This one is obviously a memoir and am all loving it, at page 178 am over halfway through it.

Marilyn (goodreadscommarilyn_zembo_day) | 60 comments As I said in my 5/22 post here:
- What are you reading for this category?
*Just finished reading memoir FIRST DARLING OF THE MORNING by Thrity Umrigar last night.
- Have you read the author's books before?
*Yes. Her novel, THE SPACE BETWEEN US, is an all-time fav of mine, read over a decade ago.

Additional post:
I wrote & posted a review of this book on GR and rated it 5-stars. Absolutely loved it. Have also posted the review to my main FB page, tagging friends that I think would be interested - also posted to my Read it Forward and Book Worms Unite groups on FB. I highly recommend this book!

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I just finished Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet: Tasting the Goodness of God in All Things by Sara Hagerty and realized I could slot it in here. I may end up moving it if I eventually read my originally planned book for this prompt Who is Branwell Brontë? and can't find a better place for that one...

I hadn't read any of her books before, but this one was so good I'm going to look up her other writing now!

- Have you read the author's books before? No, I wasn't planning on reading this one and then I saw it on the Goodreads Choice Awards which I also do a challenge for. I was running behind in this challenge and then I realized it would fit in this slot. I originally had Red Queen slotted here and I didn't really want to start another series this year before I hadn't finished a couple of other series.
